  • Say goodbye to mowing grass on Saturdays! All you have to do is move your chickens around. Here is a video of how I built my Easy DIY Chicken Tractors. This is a simple DIY chicken tractor built from 2 x 4's and PVC. Chicken tractors can mow your lawn for free and they also offers you fresh organic chickens for the dinner table.

To help cut costs you can drill holes through the ridge pole (for the conduit) to save a few EMT straps. The white PVC isn't UV protected like the gray electrical PVC conduit so the gray will last longer. I hope these hints help in your future endeavors.

+Buddy Harrison Way more trouble than it worth to drill the holes
20 pack 3/4-in emt strap at Lowes $2.98 plus they are needed around the bottom. As for the UV protection I don't want them to last forever. I find pvc is good for about 5 years by then its time for a new build, the chicken wire is ragged by then. If you want one to last 20 years I would not recommend this type this is only a easy quick through together that will last a few years.

Great video! thank you. I have looked at 20-30 chicken tractor videos and this is the one I have been looking to build. Simple, yet effective. I have 20 barred rocks that are only 3 weeks old right now but I am planning on moving to a tractor in 2-3 weeks. We are going to use longer pvc and make it a big wider and a big longer so as not to have to move it every day but going to use your design. Great job!

Chris, would you share the fitting list on the bucket watering system? Is there an o-ring fitting or something that converts to that flexible hose connection? Thanks in advance!

what is the rule of thumb for square feet per chicken in this setup? I like this setup by the way. makes for healthy happy chickens.

+Robert Miller Not really a rule just how often you want to move it and the variety of grass they are grassing on. The large one needs to be moved everyday with 10-12 chickens at my place.

I am a real chicken novice but don't chickens need to roost? Are they fine being on the ground over night? Good video.

+The Potty Gardener They would prefer to roost keep in mind the chickens in this tractor are only in tractor for the summer then they are harvested.

Is this like a 4x8 feet? Do you have a material list anywhere? Thanks bro, been raising chickens once again for a couple of years, but their permanent coop has no grass left in it, they need to get out in the grass, but don't want them pooping on the porch!

+Grow Dinner Aquaponics Thank you sir, we built one yesterday, except used electrical conduit, treated wood, and different wire. Hoping to get years of use out of it) Seems the chicken wire we bought 2 years ago is completely gone! Rusted through. I don't know where you can find good chicken wire these days.

+Grow Dinner Aquaponics Thanks once again for your videos. That was really helpful. The ridge made it extra strong.

I know it's been a couple months since you posted this but can you recall about how much it cost in total to make this? (Without the water and food feeders)
    PLEASE RESPOND:)

+charliemor3 I am not sure why you are not getting sound? I have sound on 3 computers at my place and 250 views in the last 48 hours and you the only person that has said anything about the sound. I am just not sure, sorry about that.
