Great tractor, I would do fold down chain link fencing to stop predators from digging under it. Fold it up to move and drop it back down. We have 8-10 coyotes that run through our property every few days so definitely need to do something. They dug under the neighbors stationary chicken coop and killed them all a few years ago in like 20-30mins
Your new design for a Cornish Camper is superb. I like the drop down security panels - makes a lot of sense too. With so few tenants now you could move that camper every 3 days -labor saver for you. Thank you.
I made a greenhouse out of one of those carports before and it held up pretty well even in high winds, but it was tied down to trees. This is nice because it sits lower and is tied to the weight of the wooden frame as well. I can see it working good. I've literally been all in on getting some chicken tractors built and was seriously considering a Salatin style one but I definitely like this idea so thanks! I think you could also consider a longer corner brace but up higher at the next joint so it wouldn't hinder the chickens space. Thanks again for the idea! 🤙🏼
I was just thinking about the hose-around-cord trick when you told you have done exactly that😂😆 A piece of old hose also works wonders for buckets with wire handles. The tiny plastic bit on the handle is not that comfortable, and it seems to be the first thing to crumble away anyway.
I built the same thing but left the normal height. It's a chicken house with roost and all. Added bracing for top to hold rain snow etc. I got little over 800 tied up in it. I got 80 chickens in it. They roost on rafters etc. Plenty big. They free range during day.
I am looking at pricing your Cornish Castle for an addition to our small farm and wanted to know if, now that you have had it long enough to play with it some, is there anything you would recommend doing differently or any tips you've discovered as you've wheeled it around?
Hello! If there are long periods of rain, for example 4-5 days, and the pasture is soaked, how do we keep the chickens from getting wet and sick while in the chicken tractor? If we don't have a dry shed built nearby, is there a solution related to the construction of the chicken tractor?
Could you take that angle iron an turn it to face into the dirt. This will keep you wood still straight but also slice into the ground closing gaps as well anchoring a bit. Might leave little groves but nothing that walking on it won't fix
I vote for naming it the CORNISH KINGDOM #1! That is awesome! And the pipe to keep them moving without getting caught underneath is genius! We're thinking of moving towards this vice our small chicken tractor & chicken run around our garden. Keep the amazing vids coming. We're learning SO much about our fairly new Kune Kunes, too! Thanks for all that you put into making your knowledge available to us! April & Tom (Wisconsin)
Hello my friend. I send you my love and greetings from Turkey. Your chicken coop is very beautiful, I congratulate you and wish you to use your coop well and beautifully. I tried to watch your video with Turkish subtitles. However, due to translation errors, I could not understand the measurements correctly. Could you please write me the width, length and height of the chicken coop in meters? I wish you a nice night.
New sub here like this bigger tractor. So is the 75 birds is that the number for that size tractor or do you have a better number that they will fit comfortably? Thank you!
Yes, please do a hot wire or fencing around the coop. I just recently watched another homestead video where they even had chicken wire under the tarp and the whole flock was destroyed one night when something tore through the tarp and chicken wire to get in. Devastating. th-cam.com/video/xnLRPmVZO0g/w-d-xo.html. Better Together Homestead. About 20 minutes into the video they show the damage. Their video from Sep 16th
Thanks for posting this comment and link. That was such a great video. I love this tractor but know now not to rely on chicken wire and tarp for security from predators.
Definitely difficult to turn with chickens in it we just started doing larger track type paths instead of turning and coming straight back up next to the previous path. Hope that makes sense
@@louislouw7548 Cornish Cross birds are generally too lazy to do any roosting. They grow so fast and get heavy so quickly that they prefer to stay on the ground. Take care and God Bless.
Hey John, I have a question. There is a chicken tractor setup down the road from me. It doesn't seem like they move it often enough cause it looks a little nasty when I go by. The chickens look healthy, but I was wondering if it affects the taste of the meat if they are left on that manure too long? Your "Meat Mobile" looks awesome, but then you always do such a good job with your builds. Thanks for sharing tell Jamie, Brooklyn, and Isaiah I missed them today ❣❣ Blessings always, g.
I’m not sure if it would change the flavor but I wouldn’t want to eat something that live it’s life in its own manure. Another reason we move them so often is so they have access to fresh grass and bugs. Good to hear from you again Gail!
So number 1... I like Cornish Castle. And number 2... are you telling me that I could have used a handcart to move the smaller chicken tractors?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I’d like to see your design
Cornnebago! Great idea and very helpful suggestions.
I like the PVC conduit bumper...makes a lot of sense
Solar fence charger for the win! nothing comes near our coop after the first night heard a few zaps.

Definitely, excited to film it up next spring
Pete on his ‘Just a few Acres’ channel used rubber floor mats to make a flexible gap filler on his brooder tractor

I like the brace idea thanks for sharing
Hey John, what about chicken wire under the tarp to keep predators from clawing through it?
Very professional set up.
Thank you we are trying

Very true I need to fix my buckets
Great video, Joel Salatin suggests not going more then 75 because if they huddle together, they may smother the center chick
Great design
sweet design. i like having a 12" threshold on the door, helps encourage the chickens to stay inside when the doors open
Thanks

Oh, this has a lot of great ideas... I've always loved this design in general, and your additions are great!
Will have to put a tape Red Cross on the tarp for the meat wagon! I love the idea & name lol & a great tractor design brother keep up the good work 👍🏽
Nice setup!!

Great! Watching your video from the Philippines. Your setup is much better than the rest that I’ve seen.
Thank you we are trying!
Great content!
Do the chicken stay in there day and night or do you lock them up at night?
do you have a follow up video?

Nice!! I'm thinking of a larger justinrhodes meat shaw. Steel on wheels. But I like this!
Thanks. We tried a meat shaw a while back but has to many loses from owls at night
Get a pair of old snow skis and mount them forward on the front.
I’d think that would be “slick”?
Hen Haven is my vote. And when you get several… the poultry plaza
I like it
I like it and I'm sure my Ayam Cemtis will too.
It’s like a Chick Mahal! 😆 I think we’ll need to build one for our house soon!

How well do these fly?
Cool video i love it, thank you for sharing you knowledge
Welcome. Appreciate the support
Love this, we are going to give it a go. What size mesh did you use on the bottom?
Awesome! It’s 1 in hardware cloth

Call it the zombie pin . Lol
That’s what I call the Cornish cross
Zombie chickens
Broiler Bus!
I like it
I am trying to find the metal canopy that you use but can’t. Do you happen to have the link for it?
We got out from Walmart.com it’s just a 10x20 carport they don’t have a link. Also got a few from northern tool.com
Got any tips on how to turn it around? That has been the biggest pain for me with this build

I think I’ll try this out myself but I’m curious about a place for them to roost at night? Great info and thanx for your time!!!
We use them for meat birds but you could add some roosting bars.
Why do you not provide roosters for the meat birds ?

Another question
You might of done it already. But how many acres do you have .
Do you rain catch for your water
Do you use solar and wind ????
We have 17. We have one rain barrel we use to catch rain it’s not on a coop just next to our barn. Don’t use solar or wind
@@KCFarms wow it looks bigger on camera .
Are they broller chickens ?
Cornish cross meat chickens
What do you do when it rains? Or will the chickens be fine?
Depending on the rain they will be fine as long as it’s not to cold
Why don't you try putting your bracing on the top rail instead of the lower rail
How about broiler barn?
You will need more side sliders.
Why not use a 20 foot 2x4 ?
The longest length available is generally 16'.
Are you still liking it?
Love it will be building 3 more this spring
just looks like a longer versions of john suscoviches
Pretty much
10x20 for $110? Wow! Where?
Northern tool. Right now it’s $139 and we had a $20 coupon
So number 1... I like Cornish Castle. And number 2... are you telling me that I could have used a handcart to move the smaller chicken tractors?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Haha possibly
113 laying hens
Chick wagon 😆
Broiler bungalow
Stupid auto spell. Lol
Fatten them up for the 🐔🪓= 🍗
