This voting really threw all popular conventions in the air. France, the UK, Italy and Monaco all did badly. Meanwhile, Austria, Sweden and Norway, then popular underdogs, were the top-3. The only country that really regained its pattern of success was Switzerland.
I guess this was the main reason why they reverted back to the old "10-votes" system in 1967 since this neighbour voting really showed the weakness of this voting system
So much neighbour voting here, 1966 would be high up on years with most bloc voting. Even more than every year this decade so far! Ireland gave UK 5 pts lol, Spain + Portugal traded 5 and Sweden came 2nd mainly due to getting 5s from their 3 Nordic brothers. Monaco saved France from nul points too.
Yes, it was ridiculous, but quite hilarious too. This would be the first of only two times when Ireland gave the UK full marks, lol. Meanwhile, Austria and Norway got their success through no thanks to their neighbors. I'm glad that Ireland and the UK, the last two countries voting, saved the Netherlands from 0 points, because I love "Fernando en Filippo".

It´s very hilarious that the audience reacted very much to the nordic countries given votes to each other and then are complete silent when Portugal and Spain exchanged 5 points, the same with UK and Ireland

And at this time the points were not that innormously huge like nowadays, better to have two-digit number than 3 or 4-digit scores, but that was just purely my opinion...

But honestly I think that Sweden's song was the best one. It was completely justified that Nordics voted for Sweden (and Norway)
