Steven is so much more than an simple musician. Never narrowminded, always innovating or at least trying. Being a reference in a genre so full of "elitists" and sometimes arrogant fellas it's amazing his stance on the ever so growing surround formats and still being a fan of vinyl.
Great interview thanks. Uber-cool hearing Steven talk so enthusiastically about Atmos and surround. Those 5 or 6 legacy Rock/Pop albums also really whet the appetite. Can’t wait to listen to The Future Bites on Blu Ray. 😎
I had to go 5.1.2 because my amp only had two extra outlets (so 7.1.0 or 5.1.2): but it still sounds brilliant... as does the King Crimson ITCOTCK, absolutely amazing... I've listened to Epitaph so many times... I love this Atmos mix for the new album: for me it really brings the album "alive" and deepens the architecture and meaning behind the whole concept. It's fascinating to hear all the exchanges throughout this interview. Thankyou.

Just sort of dreaming what those 5 rock albums in Atmos could be... The Joshua Tree, Nevermind, Pet Sounds, Who's Next, OK Computer... Imagine any of those! 🤯
I have a atmos set up but only front height speakers 2 subs side surround and 2 front speakers, so 7.2.2. It opens up a new listening experience fully immersive, I was not prepared to put holes in my ceiling, so to get around this problem I bought speaker stands that can tilt down so giving me the elevating downward scope. The new Steven Wilson Album sounds incredible, as does Abbey Road, But I cannot see Atmos Becoming popular I think it will become yet another format like DVDA and SACD, the public as whole want instant Spotify into their earbuds. I hope the tour goes ahead, I've bought my Ticket for Cardiff Sept 6th, Its gonna be fantastic getting back to a live show.
@@TheCleasby I will try out the Kick Album thanks for that, I agree with your remark on Box sets when you take a closer look all your getting is multi versions of the same album, at inflated prices. I won't pay 100 to 300 pounds just for the atmos mix.
@@TheCleasby Ok Mate I stand corrected.. I have tidal on the Firestick connected to a full Dolby Atmos system, 5.1 Jamo speaker setup with upfiring Atmos speakers and Sony Receiver. The Dolby Atmos version of the new album is there and Im playing it now.. Funny its not on the Tidal Android app on my Huawei. There are other Dolby Atmos Albums on the mobile app.. I normally play regularly stereo music thru the system which is upscaled to 5.1 or Atmos and it sounds almost as good as real atmos. In fact I only have tidal on a 4 month trial which cost 4 euro and would not pay 20 a month for it.. Free Spotify on my firestick with a few ads does me fine..but I am enjoying some atmos listening on Tidal when I can get it cheap..
It's a shame The Human League didn't want Dare mixed into surround. That would sound great. Ahh well - Don't you want me indeed! And Talk Talk will always be unfortunate. You have to respect their wishes but you get the feeling bands hear the word ‘remixed' and immediately put the shutters up. Perhaps 'converted' into surround might sound more palatable…

Try the Yello! INXS Kick also great, most of the rest come in silly big boxsets...
