  • Afternoon drive around the North Georgia city of Gainesville.
    Gainesville by the Numbers:
    City Population: 33,804
    City Area: 34.90 sq mi
    Metro Population (Gainesville, GA): 179,684
    CSA Population (Atlanta-Athens-Clarke County-Sandy Springs, GA-AL): 6,054,858
    From Wikipedia:
The city of Gainesville is the county seat of Hall County, Georgia, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 33,804. By 2019 the population had risen to an estimated 43,232. Because of its large number of poultry processing plants, it is often called the "Poultry Capital of the World." Gainesville is the principal city of, and is included in, the Gainesville, Georgia Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is included in the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Gainesville, Georgia Combined Statistical Area.
Gainesville is located in central Hall County. It is bordered to the southwest by the city of Oakwood. Interstate 985/U.S. Route 23 passes through the southern part of the city, leading southwest 54 miles (87 km) to Atlanta and northeast 23 miles (37 km) to Baldwin and Cornelia. U.S. Route 129 runs through the east side of the city, leading north 24 miles (39 km) to Cleveland and southeast 21 miles (34 km) to Jefferson.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 33.9 square miles (87.7 km2), of which 31.9 square miles (82.7 km2) are land and 1.9 square miles (5.0 km2), or 5.75%, are water.
Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, parts of Gainesville lie along the shore of one of the nation's most popular inland water destinations, Lake Lanier. Named after Confederate veteran, Georgia author and musician Sidney Lanier, the lake was created in 1956 when the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dammed the Chattahoochee River near Buford and flooded the river's valley. Although created primarily for hydroelectricity and flood control, it also serves as a reservoir providing water to the city of Atlanta and is a very popular recreational attraction for all of north Georgia.
Much of Gainesville is heavily wooded, with both deciduous and coniferous trees.

I'm sorry you had to see our town. It's full of meatheads and homeless people slums everywhere. That tour is like 10 percent of Gainesville.

It’s so eerie to see a path you’ve driven hundreds of times on video instead of in your car (also I was one of the cars in this vid)

NIce video. I remember when Green Hunter Homes aka Atlanta Street Projects, The Kangaroo, and Beef Corral were all off of the main strip entering town. I worked at the Beef Corral during my highschool years. I see the town has changed alot since then, more highschools, increased population and downtown growth. It was a wonderful place to grow up; alot of recreational venues and Lake Lanier. Thanks again for the video.

I saw you run that red light when you turned onto Jesse Jewell! You should ride around the Hall County area if you’re a Georgia native! It’s mostly country, but Mt. Vernon Rd is a pretty scenic drive! I drive it every day as a pizza delivery guy and I never get tired of it!

That first church on the right is my mothers church, St Johns Bapist. That Citgo gas station on the right, was a hang
out spot in my teen years. It was called Kangaroo back in the 80's. When westling came to town. The wrestlers would stop there to buy their beer. Rick Flair, The Junk Yard Dog and many more. I met right at that store. The wrestling matches were held at that first light you came to, Jesse Jewels Parkway. Turn left at that light. And right on the right. Is the George Mountain Center. That's were it all the smack downs happened.

I lived in Gainesville 3 years, on Ridgewood Ave just off Green Street. I am wondering why you didn't start with that beautiful area of downtown. Sorry but this route makes Gainesville look like a boring place. It is one of my FAV cities I have ever lived!!

Sure would have been nice to actually have seen the entire downtown square of Gainesville individual as advertised by the title. Instead we're taking on the same roads over and over again. Not very creative
