Mac and Pad should stop building their teams around Hily. First, there is no such thing as a "long-term project" in LEC unless you are a top 2-3 team. If the results are bad, the roster is always changing after 2-3 splits (6 months). They want to create a team that can succeed internationally? Well, bad, because the last time Hily was truly successful internationally was 2018 FNC. Why are you trying to build a team around an incredibly risky player with a very unique playstyle, which is really hard to realize and follow? Why in every team Hily is on, all 4 players should change everything about their game because of 1 player, who can't even show his "magic" for the last 6 years? First thing you have to do as an ambitious LEC team is to improve your fundamentals to make it to the internationals, where you can improve after playing against eastern teams. Look at how much better FNC look after coming from MSI. And only after all of that you can try to create this "magic" with players like Hily, and try this incredibly hard micro game he is playing. It's absurd how more than half of this podcast with VITALITY coaches about TEAM VITALITY is actually about Hily and his teachings. This makes me frustrated because it feels like a lot of incredible players are ruining their carriers because of this absurd idea of Hily's League Of Legends, and young talents like Carzzy and Lyncas are fighting for their lives to make playoff in the same region as dead MDK, Heretics, and Rogue
Oh, and by the way, the reason 2018 FNC worked so well is not even because everyone followed Hily, but because there were 2 calm players (Broxah and Rekkles) who were able to balance with 3 other psychos (Bwipo, Caps and Hily). Broxah said it himself in the last episode of "The Jungle" podcast

I know about Hily's high highs, but you also have to understand how demanding he is as a player. In my opinion, too demanding for what he provides. I'm not saying that he is a bad player. What I'm saying is that it is not worth it to build the entire team around his psychotic playstyle and make other 4 players (who are not worse than Hily) completely relearn the game, causing the team to perform poorly (Vitality last 3 splits)

Although he has still one of the best eu laning supports in the league and every adc he has been with have consistently played so much better with him than without. Imagine being on a 2 months break because of not making MSI, just to play one month summer season, just to go to another 6 month break. This is so weird to me, I mean I understand the approach of the format with Top8, so every game counts more. But in this moment it has to be Bo3 at least, just 9 games are way to less to improve or to really understand the strength and weakness of teams. It feels too random and very rough for the bottom teams. OR there has to be less teams in the league so you can compete in Bo3 all the time. But I guess this is an economical issue

i'd say, its mostly because its not easy to, if they haven't worked with the player before they won't have the insight, there are also the barriers of budget and contract and reasons goes one. yet, do agree with you that would be a better approach, and so often i see my self hoping a roster brings Bwipo and Hyli together again
When you wanna do something beyond staying afloat and surviving in your domestic league - you need these "clutch" players who can bring you 110% performance in the right circumstances. Beating eastern teams with standart league has never worked out so far - Europe needs these wildcards who can throw you off. Do they always work? Usually? No... But when they do, we have 2 consecutive years of world finals. We eliminate RNG, T1 or TES in a bo5. If you don't gamble on players like Hilly, Caps, Wunder, Mikyx etc., you don't go far internationally.
I mean Mac has always been a personality focused guy more than play style. Maybe these players really have the type of attitude he likes in players while also being skilled enough to be top in Europe. You can teach tactics, you can't teach personality

They make educated guesses with the information that they have and ofc it’s easy to be critical as a viewer when you don’t have any of the information and don’t have to make any real decisions
