The 6-5 40-0 game may have changed the course of history. If Federer wins one point there, he wins this match straight sets, has undefeated record against Djokovic and no mental block. The game literally put a doubt in federers mind that lasted his entire career
Utter nonsense. Federer immediately went on to defeat Djokovic in straight sets in the US Open final saving 5 set points in the first set when Djokovic was serving for it at 40-0 and then 2 more again in the 2nd set when Djokovic was serving for it and in total staved off 7 set points in the first 2 sets to win both of them 7-6 in tiebreakers and then won the third 6-4 to see off Djokovic. Then Djokovic beat Federer in straight sets at the Australian Open semifinals(Federer was diagnosed with mono at this time) and THAT broke the mental barrier over Federer for Djokovic. A great player like Djokovic would've beaten Roger sooner or later anyways so it didn't really matter
Just see Federer's behaviour at the net during the formal hand shake where he is so cold and stone faced. He was so arrogant and just detested losing. It is frequent losses which mended his behaviour later in his career.
It was the locked down mode that Novak is so famous for during the breaker. Roger really missed a lot of long rally shots in UEs and that costed him the title.
One aspect of Novak's game that has been incredible amongst many other incredible things is his lesser number of unforced errors as compared to his opponents. He has always made sure that he makes his opponents play one more shot and that one more shot is usually when his opponents make mistakes.

Interesting fact: Federer lead 6-5, 40-0 on serve against Djokovic in the first set and lost it here in the Montreal final. A month or so later, Djokovic lead 6-5, 40-0 on serve against Federer in the first set and lost it at the US Open final. Those turning points decided the outcome of each match.

Hihh quality match, Djokovic truly outplayed Roger in this one. Those forehands in the first set were absolute rockets
This was the performance that really took everyone's notice and amongst the best years. Its beyond me how anyone can dispute that Novak is the greatest despite Roger making 20 slams first
11 of the last 14 points of the set. That’s what separates Novak from Roger. Mental resilience in the important moments. You can talk about technique, dominance, unstoppable attacking play about Roger all you want, but the greatest athletes in any sport know how to win, and do so efficiently. 40-15
What?? Roger is one of most clutch players of all time. This was just one match..

*G.O.A.T.! Beating Federer in his prime and on his best surface in 2007.* A very young Djoker not in his prime, kiler mode on hardcourt.
This is what Nole would have become: Federer defeated in 2008 at the A.O. and later domination in 2011... and years later, the G.O.A.T.!
In 2007 there was David Nalbandian, another great beast in his prime.
Federer has never defeated Nadal the king of clay at Roland-Garros (his kingdom); Djoker: 2 times (one more at the Olympics in 2024).
The G.O.A.T. debate is over since 2023, and now after Djoker's golden medal in 2024... is dead.
Djoker: 24 Grand Slams, 40 ATP Masters 1000 titles (record), 7 Tour Finals/ATP Finals, World No. 1 for 428 weeks (record) and golden medal at the Olympics in 2024 >>> Fedal (Nadal: 0 Tour Finals; Federer: only 1 Roland-Garros and silver medal in sigles at the Olympics). Nole has won the whole tennis, not Federer.
Djoker defeated everyone since 2008 to 2024 (impossible stuff): Federer (defeated here in 2007), Nadal, Murray, Wawrinka, del Potro, Sinner, Alcaraz, etc.
1. Djoker
>
2. Federer
3. Nadal
>
>
>
4. Sampras
...and then the others.
Djokovic: real domination in 2011 and 2015 (and also in 2021 and 2023), the strongest and the golden era of tennis (Federer, Nadal, Murray, Wawrinka and del Potro around).
No wonder he hated him since day one

Novak had an habit of quitting matches when it wasn't going his way, then he started faking injuries to take momentum away from opponents. Those things affected his popularity. But we can't take anything away from his legendary Tennis.

@@steviejohnson378 20 years. The real weak era was 2004-2007. It's fact. Djokovic has been dominating for more than a decade.
How many more times it would happen between these two over the years to come
Federer was very arrogant with Nole. He didn't look him in eyes in end match.
Fed made like 5 UE’s in that final tiebreaker. You ain’t winning against no one if you play like that
@@BeyondNarrativeshe wouldnt do it against anyone else, maybe Rafa at that time
If you look at all his losses against Djokovic, it’s his UE’s that usually does it in for him. Djokovic just waits for him to implode basically
What a way to win.
One aspect of Novak's game that has been incredible amongst many other incredible things is his lesser number of unforced errors as compared to his opponents. He has always made sure that he makes his opponents play one more shot and that one more shot is usually when his opponents make mistakes.
Nole has a big game and a bigger heart. ❤❤❤
Since then...50 times against Federer, 60 times against Nadal, 110 against both in total, advantage over both! This is how you know for sure someone is truly great...

This was a sign of more of Novak's impeccable mentality to come in the next 10-15 years... I never knew at the time.
As for Federer, this was still disappointing although he won his 5th consecutive Wimbledon title just a month before this tournament. 2007 was the last season of his absolute prime.
Federer was horrendous at 2007 masters. Indian Wells and Miami lost soon vs Guillermo Canas. Rome vs Volandri, this one, Madrid and Paris vs Nalbandian and a lost against Fernando Gonzalez at atp finals
@@marianogonzalez9248 he was back to his usual best after the 5th consecutive Wimbledon title in 2007 summer. I watched almost all the live matches he played that year, so I know.
@marianogonzalez9248 all the losses he suffered up to Volandri were terrible, I agree. And he was maybe a bit tentative in the Madrid 2007 final, same goes to Paris 2007 against Nalbandian both. But Nalbandian played exceptionally well during the Madrid-Paris title sweep run. Plus Gonzalez played out of this world. Federer performed overall poorly in 2007 compared to 2006 (still won 3 majors, I don't even know how) but there were times when he peaked like in 2006. AO, Dubai, Hamburg, Montreal, Cincinnati and US open.
Federer was good but several classes below Novak, the GOAT.

Amazing forehand of Djokovic, this was absolutely prime Federer what a game. A frew day later Federer took revenge at USA open final wining 3-0.
If I remember right, the game when Federer served for the opening set was the very first time he got broken from 40-0 up. He had horrendous luck in Canada after winning in 2006. His final with an injured Tsonga was mindblowingly bad, which coincidentally was another time that the champion beat the top 3! Tsonga was tanking the match and Federer still found a way to lose
And so many more wins after this one...
This was the second tennis match I ever watched. First one was Nadal-Djokovic in the semis.
