The original creators have step down from the live action for Netflix do to "creative differences" ( by creative differences i mean Netflix tryna take over everything and change the original story probably do force representations, focus on relationships make mature content aka tryna get people to f*** and try to be "trendy") but yeah they said they have already step down from the project and said anything on the live action is not from them and is all Netflix idea.

They have literally anybody who dies and goes to the spirit world. So most likely tenzin, toph, zuko, iroh, and katara. They would basically act as a telephone for the avatars. The avatars would tell them any important lessons and they could just pass them on.

Honestly, that's kinda horrible. Imagine the next avatar having a mental breakdown from political/spiritual crap; the last thing they want to do is read through pages of letters for 'guidance'. I feel you receive more comfort from someone you can actually talk/relate to and can seek advice from.
Actually, one advantage any future Avatar will have available to them is the knowledge and Wisdom that of Iroh, who now resides in the spirit world, whether they know it or not
It gets worse. Everyone in this comment section is talking about how future avatars will lose that intimate connection to knowledge and wisdom, but there is another problem. I recently started rewatching ATLA and in S2E1 "The Avatar State" Roku explains to Aang what the avatar state is, quote Roku, "A defense mechanism designed to empower you (current avatar) with the SKILLS and knowledge of all the past avatars. The glow is the COMBINATION of all your past lives FOCUSING THEIR ENERGY through your body." Korra lost what MAKES the avatar state so powerful skills, experience, and energy from all the past lives. Without that connection, the avatar state is just a small boost from Raava. The avatar state will be nothing like what aang showed us in the last episode of ATLA because all the skills and power that he used came from his past lives, now all gone.
Well, now that i think about it thats really unfortunate, so it also asks the question whats the point of going to the spiritual side of being the avatar if there's not really any benefits other than the slight raava boost you spoke of.
@@-Zagreus- I'm honestly not sure. To be honest I never really like the Korra series because it was made due to Nickelodeon wanting a follow-up to continue the popularity the show had received. It's too focused on teenage drama and lost most of what made ATLA so popular like the innocence of kids maturing in a war like environment, the comedy and slapstick, but these are all my opinions. If you liked the Korra series that's fine; I just believe the writers wrote themselves blocked in area where they couldn't continue.

That's one of the many things that was retconned in Korra, which effectively broke the lore of ATLA. In Korra, it's established that the Avatar State is Raava taking over the Avatar's body. It really does suck how that turned out. imo, Korra ain't canon. EDIT: To clarify, I'm saying *I* refuse to accept Korra as canon, I know that it is.

@@maryd4651 Actually Raava does everything, so if Raava remembers about the avatar cycle and avatar state, she should also remember about incarnation retention and future avatars should have access to everything (minus having to relearn bending techniques)
So ur telling me that the avatars after Korra can't spiritual summon everyone that came after her and her? I thought they could just not with Aang ta Wan. I do hope for another spinoff with that in mind or maybe the avatar after Korra manages to reconnect. Another thing is what do u think of this idea that both Raava and Vaatu merge with the avatar, having the powers of light and dark, peace and chaos on equal levels for total balance.
@@donbadawy what if there were only minor changes at first which finally leads to the changing how people and some future avatar percieve what an avatar is supposed to do. Surely minor changes might not get noticed by others first bit once enough years have passed people might not know which one is the real and which is the fake. Maybe 2 factions where 1 views avatar as a hero while the other views as villian who saves the world by destroying it.
She could've said her advice aloud and had someone write it down for her. Or maybe she could've engraved it on a stone tablet. Or who knows, maybe they have Braille in the Avatar world.
Given how Toph was able to see the world through both earthbending and metalbending I don't see why she wouldn't be able to write....written language is basically just muscle memory
so if this is just letters to the next Avatar, then we don’t actually know for sure if they’ll be able to communicate with Korra or not. this seems like just a backup plan, so we’ll never truly know until we have a series/comic/book of the next Earth Avatar.
I felt the same way too. Korra has no way of knowing she won't be connected to any of the future Avatar's. I feel in the event their is some story of the next earthbending Avatar that will be a plotpoint saved for later. .
Personally I think Korra was a good avatar, you may not like her as a character, but she did her best, and went through a lot. I think it's important to remember Korra is NOT Aang. They each go through diffrent struggles, and each of them find something new to improve about themselves. Korra may have severed the past lives from future avatars forever, but in a way it makes sense, because the 10000 year cycle was over, and it added more to the show in general. Sometimes things will change, and it can be a good thing ir bad thing, but nothing will stay the dame forever. I found Korra to be a very interesting character, the fact that at fisrt she would only relay on bending, and her physical strength, to having to grow herself mentaly, and be able to be both strong physically, and spiritually. In the 4th season she can be very relateable, as well as the 1st season. When she resieced the avatar state she was ready to end her life. And as we see her in the 4th episode is was like she was back where she started. She felt powerless, like many of us do in our lives, but we can watch her buff up the courage to get help, and eventually regain her strength in all aspects. Anouther thing, I've seen a lot of people complain that she passes out too easily, or gets injured to quickly. I think the writers were just trying to make the show more realistic. Through the entire thing there is a lot more touchy and dark topics than there is in ALTA. To a sense is will agree, but in the end I think it just made sense. Each avatar had to go through something terrible, or start as something terrible to become something greater.
Doing your best an going through a lot doesn’t make you a good avatar maybe a good person but the Avatar is more like a job and she didn’t live up to it and I don’t hate Korra at all I liked the show but she wasn’t a good Avatar imo
Jamal Williams how did she not live up to being the avatar? she defeated amon who wanted to remove all bending from the world, unalaq who wanted to take over the southern tribe (then the whole world), vaatu who was the dark spirit, zaheer and kuvira too. had she not defeat amon he would’ve erased all bending and unalaq/vaatu would’ve created 10,000 years of darkness

I think that when Raava "died", the connection to the Avatar's past lives was so damaged that the Avatar is left with glimpses and memory bits here and there. It's still there, but it's mostly gone. I wouldn't be surprised if certain objects, locations, and spiritual encounters triggered some memory flashes for the next Avatar. I also believe that, if the next Avatar doesn't have the connection to Korra, then maybe somewhere down the line, the connection redevelopes on its own. For instance, 6-12 Avatars later, the Avatar starts hearing a voice that turns out to be their past life, but only the life before them. Or maybe since each Avatar is nothing more than a bunch of memories now, it makes sense that, when Korra lost the connection, those memories wouldn't be destroyed, but expelled from her body and sent into the Spirit World. The Avatar has to find those memories, and their corresponding Avatars, before a great evil finds and "kills" them. Of course, such a journey would take lifetimes, and the Avatar recovers only the memories they need. Like, they wouldn't go looking for Aang or Roku unless they needed advice or help from them. Also, the Avatar is the *Line* between the Human and Spirit Worlds? The *Border?* No. For me, the Avatar will be *another bridge,* aside from the Spirit Portals.
I hope that the next Avatar discovers a way to connect with their past lives. If not I at least hope that they can connect with Korra. It is a big part of what makes the Avatar special and interesting.

I was thinking avatar ikem could spend a majority of the series in the spirit realm, and all the new things he learns from searching for the avatars. Like timebending and mindbending
Legend of Korra definitely wasn’t my favorite but it definitely would’ve ranked higher if this severing connection hadn’t happened. It just seems like a terrible way for it to come to an end. I’m sure some great fanfic writers will come up with some creative ways to restore balance in their stories. It does push us to be more creative despite canon.
If somehow Aang slaming his back on to a peg can restore his severed connection with the past avatars and the avatar state (again, slamming his back into a simple rock), I am sure Korras severance can be easily fixed too.
Maybe the avatar cycle could just restart from Korra so the book isn't needed. The new avatar won't be able to talk to any of the older avatars but can talk to Korra I think that would be a better idea
The fact that korra just lost an essential part of the avatar makes me think if there was more stuff to the avatar that was lost like the past lives. Like what if you were once able to summon your past lives to help you fight but someone lost that power for all future avatars
I get that new avatars are not able to see/speak to the Avatars before Korra, but I feel they should be able to speak to everyone after Korra as the connection to the avatar state was reinstated with her.
I really want that the earthbender Avatar dreams of the past memories of the avatars and he finds them familiar but he doesn't know from where they come. Then his dreams come true and he relives a special moment of all the avatars (still finds it familiar) and he goes on a journey like Aang. But bcs the cycle is broken it also affected the world and they forgot everything about the avatars. Then he finds the letters of Korra and he finds clues in the letters (bcs Korra is a genius I guess) on how to reconnect and he finds a way in the spirit world where he is stuck for a moment but finds Korra and he found out how to do it (by remembering all the names of the avatars and remembering which memorie he had as dream was from which avatar) and by that the cycle comes back and gets out of the spirit world. But he actually has been 30 years in the spirit world. The world is falling apart again idk how and he needs to tell him about the avatars and how he is gonna save the world Phew that was a LOT of typing bye
The people would remember the previous avatars but other than that this is actually a cool concept. Now I want another animated series instead of a live action one

Im rewatching both shows, and honestly this time through Korra I am kind of ok with losing all the avatars before her. I have a feeling that in 10,000 years when the next harmonic convergence happens, the same thing will occur and every avatar up to korra will be lost to the current avatar. Its about balance right? And a cycle. Avatar Korra is the last of the first avatar cycle, the the first of the second 10,000 year cycle. She learned a lot from Aang before the connection to him was lost, she learned a lot from the people who knew him afterwards, and she learned a lot from her experiences. Korra had an eventful life, much more so than many of the past avatars who truly only knew peace. The waterbender before her really only had his wifes face get stolen. Like, thats not a world ending conflict every year like Korra has to deal with. Idk, i just find this a lot more poetic and fitting than many gave it credit for. Plus, as with all fantasy, there has to be a cost. Someone or something has to die for a victory to feel authentic. In book one, it was the councilman and Amon. In book two, it was the spiritual connection between the first 10,000 years of past lives and korra. In book three, it is Korra's confidence and health due to the poison. In book four, it is hiroshi sato. Loss is integral to a good story. And i think we lost sight of that as a fandom because the loss of aang was agonizing. Take a wide perspective on it. Aang was the last and first airbender. Korra is the last and first avatar.
Honestly, you are so right with that. It is interesting enough - I think people are being bitter because they don't want Kyoshi/Roku/Aang to truly be gone, but I like the idea that this harmonic convergence is a cycle.
Uhh people dont hate korra because of the concept. People hate korra because it felt rushed. Poor character arcs and execution around the concept. The dialogues felt bland, team avatar felt irrelevant and the direction doesnt feel as magical as it used to. Theres so much potential in korra's world with better writing i think it can surpass ATLA in some way. Maybe put more episode to develop wisdom and stakes around the danger korra has to face. Put more development in the villains and everything around korra. I can go on and on why korra's writings is a bad writing in general.
@@gerryo30 LoK villains were written well, though. Literally any villain, aside from Unulaq, was written beautifully. Generally speaking, both ATLA and LoK do have their negatives, but they're both well-made. The villains in LoK were more interesting than Lord Ozai. But, the romance is more appealing in ATLA. Aang is a safe character; childish, and nearly everything he does works out in the end. But with Korra, it's the opposite; unlikable in the beginning, though soon develops into a respectable character. A more risky move, though an admirable one.
I would say that Kyoshi counts as an anti-hero Avatar given her rough early life, her quest for revenge, training as a criminal and an assassin, and breaking societal norms for women.
Now to be fair the connection isn’t really destroyed it’s just lost and so the next avatar could possibly find a way to reconnect, because “if” they do make another avatar series they will make some bullshit like that so og fans that got disappointed of korra will be happy again and say “yay aang’s back!”, because I don’t think anyone wants to watch a show about korra being the only past avatar cause that’s just boring as hell...
If aang listened to the air nomad counsel there wouldn’t be an avatar. Similar situation with them both since the person in charge(or people in aang’s case) wanted the avatar to stay to be a better avatar and yet if she didn’t leave she would have lost against the equalists because they would have been prepared
I personally hope this next Avatar finds a way to restore that connection to the past. I heard once that to give up on the past is to doom the future, but with this spiritual death, the next Avatar has lost a lot more than people realize. I'm making an Avatar fanfiction that focuses on the Firebender Avatar after the one talked about here, and while I'm not sure how the Spirit World or if past lives will factor in, it would be a shame if my OC had no way to contact past lives, in his case the Earthbender from here, Korra, Aang, and Roku, which in my mind is very important.

Idk what people insinuating. But because you don’t like a plot element doesn’t make it bad writing. Like cliches. Cliches are fine if you do it in an interesting way that isn’t bland. It was decent writing. I hated when Korra was stripped of her past lives. But that didn’t make it bad writing imo. It was subversion and shock. The decision was heartbreaking. But it wasn’t a bad one. The plot got interesting at that point and brought up questions about the avatar cycle in general. No one thought the avatar connection could be lost. Now it brings up new possibilities. Honestly it was fine. The kanji battle explanation was bad writing. Otherwise the show is good.
To me, it just seems like they know korra lost her connection, and they dont know if the future avatars will have connections going back to Korra, or none at all, so to make sure Korra passes on something to the next avatar, they write it down, because how would they be sure whether or not the future avatars have a connection to korra? Thats how i see it, a precaution.
Me too - and actually, what you said brings up an interesting thought: what if all that was required to reconnect the Avatar to their past lives is the reincarnation itself? That when Korra dies her spirit somehow reconnects to the past Avatars, or that dying allows her to access whatever plane of existence the other Avatars are on? Kind of an interesting idea… it would make a banger of a one-shot comic
All I can think about is how in the next 10,000 years, that Avatar is going to be screwed because Vaatu is literally going to emerge from them with yet another long evil laugh
It annoys me IMMENSELY, much more information and knowledge will be gone forever, and _never_ come back. Never be rediscovered, techniques and _secrets_ that will never be relearn partly because of how far ahead in time they will now live in. Even just one life has so many memories and unknown knowledge inside of it, that we can't even begin imagine it. CHILDHOODS that will never be remembered. Yeah, think of all the libraries that were burned down in WW2, think of Japan's destruction on the same time. I am so happy they did this, Korra's mental state is so well done, and her growth after everything horrible that happened is so inspiring.
The fact that the next avatar cant talk to any past lives is really sad. I really thought it was just the lives before Korra. But now if there is another series I wonder what will happen when that avatar hits his\her lowest point and how they will get out of it. I really hope that the next avatar will be able to restore the ability to talk to past lives so that the Avatar after the next avatar could talk to him but hey that’s just my opinion. Sorry for writing a whole book.
I think since they don't know if the connection will work it's good tgey write it down, but it'll be trial and error to see if they can. I thought the old luves were straight up destroyed byt if it's just a severed connection there's hope for restoring it.
I still think her ripping a new spirit portal in the series finale should have restored the connection. And also I want to see old lady Korra's spirit giving advice to the next avatar.
It would be great that the next avatar would live in a generation where they treat The Avatar as a Myth, no one really gives shit on the avatar anymore because of the advance technology, then our new earth bender avatar would be an avid avatar fan until at the right age he was proclaimed(no ceremonies, the guy just met him in a market with some of the old avatar toys) to be the avatar by just a single old stranger that the credibility of that old person is questionable, then a secret organization will try to search and captute him to be studied how an avatar body works, now he can only take refuge southern water tribe because mostly all people taught that all southet water tribe are either extinct or some just want to live in other places. There he migt see the true remains(diary, photos, techniques of Aang). And that place where korra secretly live her latter days because no one needs the avatar anymore and died.

Korra losing the connection to past lives makes sense with the overall themes of the series: the world is outgrowing the Avatar. Equalists wanted to remove bending altogether, Vaatu recontextualised the Avatar's purpose as a whole, Zaheer wanted a world free from rule, and Kuvira showed that the world can do just fine without the Avatar. Of course, all of these had massive consequences that aren't so nice, but every single one of these foes made Korra feel unnecessary. Technology was advancing so fast that bending may become obsolete entirely, spirits were now living peacefully with humans, massive political reforms spread across the world with democracy becoming the new norm, and airbenders were now global peacekeepers. The world is changing and it doesn't need the Avatar anymore, Book 4 made that clear. Korra as the Avatar represents big changes to the way the world works, and that includes the role of the Avatar. Korra hates herself for losing that connection to the past, but it didn't really matter that much; being stuck in the past keeps you from moving forward. This is the same lesson that Aang learned. Book 2 was just straight trash though, they absolutely could've done it waaaaay better. Varrick was easily the best part of it.
This is the only comment that I've seen have a very realistic approach to losing the Avatar connection. Thinking about it now, it would make sense since everything in the Avatar universe is advancing more. I would love to see your statement be explored more. Edit: being stuck in the past won't get you far. Look at how Aang asked his past lives about how to defeat Ozai. Everyone said kill him, but he found another way to do it instead, which was energybending. It encourages progressing forward.
Happie Exactly! Have most of these people not think about it in a realistic approach it???We’ve seen the advancement of technology in LOK. I’ve been thinking about this ever since I rewatched it again for first time in 5 years. People need to start opening new possibilities of where avatar is heading at. There’s a reason why the creators pick this timeline/setting and why they picked to cut off the past Avatar connections. It will make more sense as we progress with the new stories for Avatar. This is only the beginning of something new. You have to have a patient mind about the choices the creators of avatar make. I know it’ll all make sense in the end. When I rewatched it again I kept it in mind that you cannot just simply hate that choice and act ignorant towards the show afterwards. We all have our own opinions in different views which helps us better understand the show rather than hate it on it fully. Hate will get you no where and definitely won’t give you a reason to look forward with the whole series. If people hate korra then I’d advise them to not be happy about the new changes in the future. If they don’t like what the creators did then stick to ATLA. They clearly showed us that they want to expand more than to stay in one place.

To be fair to Aang, he had no control over when and if the genocide of the nomads happened, he never began his Avatar training at that point, and he was a frightened boy when that happened. As for Korra, most of her failures are pretty much on her being a hot-headed moron.

The Air Nomad elders had an entire evacuation plan and training regime ready for Aang. At least Korra stepped up to the plate and trained and fought instead of running away. Have you thought that how the next avatar is going to be found, because the only precise way to find the next avatar is the air nomads technique to show toys used by the past avatars to the current avatar. And without the connection of the past lives the current avatar can't recognize the toys. Maybe in the next series we are going to see a new way of finding the next avatar???
I mean, they somehow found Roku without using the toy method, and he didn't even know he could bend other elements. I can only assume that the avatar state, bending multiple elements and matching death times to birth times are the most reliable ways in all honesty.
@@wolfywonder8480 well we really didn't know how the fire sages knew roku was the avatar we can see young roku and sozin attending some sort of gathering/party/ceremony (I don't remember lol) when suddenly the fire sages come and say that "we have come for roku because he is the avatar" At the right age they tell the avatar about their true identity And also if we remember monk gyatso and other monks used the toy technique to find aang is the next avatar so that means the toys he chosed are used by roku himself in his childhood days
The scrapbook, An Avatar's Chronicle, doesn't seem to have Bryke's names attached to it anywhere, and there even seems to be some inconsistencies with it and Turf Wars. Unlike with other Avatar scrapbooks that have the creators' names attached. Additionally, in the scrapbook (if it is actually canon), Tenzin specifically says "where future Avatars MAY not have connections to their past lives". Keyword "may", basically meaning that they're not exactly sure, so the letters Korra is writing are more of a just-in-case.
I think the next avatar should be a villain. As in “the road to hell is paved with good intentions” kind of villain since he has no connection with the previous avatars to guide him. It would be great way to show the consequences of the mistakes made in the LOK, not to mention a good way to show that nothing is beyond corruption. And further the irony, it will be up to vatuu to save the day and restore balance to the world.
She didn't do anything to the cycle, She was clearly outmatched. If anything. blame the writers for driving themselves into a corner. The whole thing about breaking the cycle wasn't that good of an idea, in my opinion, it didn't make the series any more interesting, it was just weird and irritating rather than good storytelling, its like relying on death to make your story more "Interesting" the writers just shoot themselves on the foot.
I could easily see an arc in the next show about the next Avatar trying to find a way to get the connections to their past lives back. It could either be part of a larger season long story or be the whole story of a whole season.
It would be really cool if the next Avatar got a series in which he’s already mastered the four elements and the Avatar State, but now his mission is to try to find a way to contact his past lives.

Exactly. Like maybe there’s a great threat and it’s suddenly necessary to reunite with all of their past lives. So they spend a season traveling all throughout crazy parts of the spirit world or order to reconnect with everyone again
I want the earth bender Avatar to be a gangster that, at first, has no such spiritual connection to the Avatar state or the spirits in any way, but one day he decides to leave the gang life because he hears voicemail of the past avatars but can't seem to connect But then he connects because stuff and other things

If they do make a new avatar series then the main plot should be that they need to reconnect to the all the past avatars, and if they wanted to they could make most of the episodes in the spirit world. It would also be cool if the past avatars transformed into spirit creatures, the new avatar has to find each of the spirits and reconnect them with what they lost (probably a metaphor to all the past avatars losing the connection to the new avatar which affects them and their own souls in different ways.) it could also be a way on how the new avatar learns the different ways of bending.

What if Asami adopted kids and taught them how to invent new things and they invented time travel and the new avatar time traveled and stopped Korra before she let the spirit world out and caused such damage and when he came back everything was back to normal

The previous avatar spirits are in the spirit world/afterlife they are just not connected through rava. The new avatar could go into the spirit world and seek them out to find a way to restore the link.
If Aang could come back and restore her bending and connection with her past lives, I am sure that this new Avatar will find a way to restore the Avatar cycle. Perhaps at the end of the story.

And let's not forget that the reason why aang at the Avatar state was more powerful than Korra was aang was fighting with the strength and experiences of all the past avatars that was why he was more formidable than Korra who could be taken down easily still at the Avatar state. That's another disadvantage the new Avatar would have

Ironically, even when Korra had access to her past lives, she didn't really consult them much to begin with, and when she did need advice she sought human counsel until they didn't know what else to say and pointed her to her past lives. At least Korra was able to talk to Raava directly, and I hope she wrote about how to do that. Also, I think despite the loss of connection, it just makes Korra more human. It's about time they record these avatar memoirs anyway. Clearly the broken connection to her past lives is one of her biggest regrets, and as it goes, the regret carries on to the next cycle, in which case I hope the next avatar finds a way to restore their connection somehow.
She didn't have a spiritual connection because her personality was being hot headed in the first couple seasons. She wanted to become more spiritual by being taught by Unalaq.

Spirituality, in essence, is being able to tap into something greater than the self, a higher consciousness that allows one to connect to others and to the cosmos. And so, it has nothing to do with hotheadedness, but rather, being too self-focused. Korra learned to expand her consciousness and to start opening up to possibilities and greater consciousness beyond herself, and that is how she was able to finally start tapping into her spiritual self.

They have literally anybody who dies and goes to the spirit world. So most likely tenzin, toph, zuko, iroh, and katara. They would basically act as a telephone for the avatars. The avatars would tell them any important lessons and they could just pass them on.

It gets worse. Everyone in this comment section is talking about how future avatars will lose that intimate connection to knowledge and wisdom, but there is another problem. I recently started rewatching ATLA and in S2E1 "The Avatar State" Roku explains to Aang what the avatar state is, quote Roku, "A defense mechanism designed to empower you (current avatar) with the SKILLS and knowledge of all the past avatars. The glow is the COMBINATION of all your past lives FOCUSING THEIR ENERGY through your body." Korra lost what MAKES the avatar state so powerful skills, experience, and energy from all the past lives. Without that connection, the avatar state is just a small boost from Raava. The avatar state will be nothing like what aang showed us in the last episode of ATLA because all the skills and power that he used came from his past lives, now all gone.
Well, now that i think about it thats really unfortunate, so it also asks the question whats the point of going to the spiritual side of being the avatar if there's not really any benefits other than the slight raava boost you spoke of.
@@-Zagreus- I'm honestly not sure. To be honest I never really like the Korra series because it was made due to Nickelodeon wanting a follow-up to continue the popularity the show had received. It's too focused on teenage drama and lost most of what made ATLA so popular like the innocence of kids maturing in a war like environment, the comedy and slapstick, but these are all my opinions. If you liked the Korra series that's fine; I just believe the writers wrote themselves blocked in area where they couldn't continue.

That's one of the many things that was retconned in Korra, which effectively broke the lore of ATLA. In Korra, it's established that the Avatar State is Raava taking over the Avatar's body. It really does suck how that turned out. imo, Korra ain't canon.

Personally I think Korra was a good avatar, you may not like her as a character, but she did her best, and went through a lot. I think it's important to remember Korra is NOT Aang. They each go through diffrent struggles, and each of them find something new to improve about themselves. Korra may have severed the past lives from future avatars forever, but in a way it makes sense, because the 10000 year cycle was over, and it added more to the show in general. Sometimes things will change, and it can be a good thing ir bad thing, but nothing will stay the dame forever.
I found Korra to be a very interesting character, the fact that at fisrt she would only relay on bending, and her physical strength, to having to grow herself mentaly, and be able to be both strong physically, and spiritually. In the 4th season she can be very relateable, as well as the 1st season. When she resieced the avatar state she was ready to end her life. And as we see her in the 4th episode is was like she was back where she started. She felt powerless, like many of us do in our lives, but we can watch her buff up the courage to get help, and eventually regain her strength in all aspects.
Anouther thing, I've seen a lot of people complain that she passes out too easily, or gets injured to quickly. I think the writers were just trying to make the show more realistic. Through the entire thing there is a lot more touchy and dark topics than there is in ALTA. To a sense is will agree, but in the end I think it just made sense.
Each avatar had to go through something terrible, or start as something terrible to become something greater.
Doing your best an going through a lot doesn’t make you a good avatar maybe a good person but the Avatar is more like a job and she didn’t live up to it and I don’t hate Korra at all I liked the show but she wasn’t a good Avatar imo

I think that when Raava "died", the connection to the Avatar's past lives was so damaged that the Avatar is left with glimpses and memory bits here and there. It's still there, but it's mostly gone.
I wouldn't be surprised if certain objects, locations, and spiritual encounters triggered some memory flashes for the next Avatar.
I also believe that, if the next Avatar doesn't have the connection to Korra, then maybe somewhere down the line, the connection redevelopes on its own. For instance, 6-12 Avatars later, the Avatar starts hearing a voice that turns out to be their past life, but only the life before them.
Or maybe since each Avatar is nothing more than a bunch of memories now, it makes sense that, when Korra lost the connection, those memories wouldn't be destroyed, but expelled from her body and sent into the Spirit World. The Avatar has to find those memories, and their corresponding Avatars, before a great evil finds and "kills" them. Of course, such a journey would take lifetimes, and the Avatar recovers only the memories they need. Like, they wouldn't go looking for Aang or Roku unless they needed advice or help from them.
Also, the Avatar is the *Line* between the Human and Spirit Worlds? The *Border?* No. For me, the Avatar will be *another bridge,* aside from the Spirit Portals.
I kinda find it funny how Korra is now kinda the one to restart the Avatar cycle which now means it's

I was thinking avatar ikem could spend a majority of the series in the spirit realm, and all the new things he learns from searching for the avatars. Like timebending and mindbending
Legend of Korra definitely wasn’t my favorite but it definitely would’ve ranked higher if this severing connection hadn’t happened. It just seems like a terrible way for it to come to an end. I’m sure some great fanfic writers will come up with some creative ways to restore balance in their stories. It does push us to be more creative despite canon.
If somehow Aang slaming his back on to a peg can restore his severed connection with the past avatars and the avatar state (again, slamming his back into a simple rock), I am sure Korras severance can be easily fixed too.

Maybe the avatar cycle could just restart from Korra so the book isn't needed. The new avatar won't be able to talk to any of the older avatars but can talk to Korra I think that would be a better idea
The fact that korra just lost an essential part of the avatar makes me think if there was more stuff to the avatar that was lost like the past lives. Like what if you were once able to summon your past lives to help you fight but someone lost that power for all future avatars

Then his dreams come true and he relives a special moment of all the avatars (still finds it familiar) and he goes on a journey like Aang. But bcs the cycle is broken it also affected the world and they forgot everything about the avatars. Then he finds the letters of Korra and he finds clues in the letters (bcs Korra is a genius I guess) on how to reconnect and he finds a way in the spirit world where he is stuck for a moment but finds Korra and he found out how to do it (by remembering all the names of the avatars and remembering which memorie he had as dream was from which avatar) and by that the cycle comes back and gets out of the spirit world. But he actually has been 30 years in the spirit world. The world is falling apart again idk how and he needs to tell him about the avatars and how he is gonna save the world

Im rewatching both shows, and honestly this time through Korra I am kind of ok with losing all the avatars before her. I have a feeling that in 10,000 years when the next harmonic convergence happens, the same thing will occur and every avatar up to korra will be lost to the current avatar. Its about balance right? And a cycle. Avatar Korra is the last of the first avatar cycle, the the first of the second 10,000 year cycle. She learned a lot from Aang before the connection to him was lost, she learned a lot from the people who knew him afterwards, and she learned a lot from her experiences. Korra had an eventful life, much more so than many of the past avatars who truly only knew peace. The waterbender before her really only had his wifes face get stolen. Like, thats not a world ending conflict every year like Korra has to deal with.
Idk, i just find this a lot more poetic and fitting than many gave it credit for. Plus, as with all fantasy, there has to be a cost. Someone or something has to die for a victory to feel authentic. In book one, it was the councilman and Amon. In book two, it was the spiritual connection between the first 10,000 years of past lives and korra. In book three, it is Korra's confidence and health due to the poison. In book four, it is hiroshi sato. Loss is integral to a good story. And i think we lost sight of that as a fandom because the loss of aang was agonizing. Take a wide perspective on it. Aang was the last and first airbender. Korra is the last and first avatar.
Honestly, you are so right with that. It is interesting enough - I think people are being bitter because they don't want Kyoshi/Roku/Aang to truly be gone, but I like the idea that this harmonic convergence is a cycle.

Uhh people dont hate korra because of the concept. People hate korra because it felt rushed. Poor character arcs and execution around the concept. The dialogues felt bland, team avatar felt irrelevant and the direction doesnt feel as magical as it used to. Theres so much potential in korra's world with better writing i think it can surpass ATLA in some way. Maybe put more episode to develop wisdom and stakes around the danger korra has to face. Put more development in the villains and everything around korra. I can go on and on why korra's writings is a bad writing in general.

Generally speaking, both ATLA and LoK do have their negatives, but they're both well-made. The villains in LoK were more interesting than Lord Ozai. But, the romance is more appealing in ATLA. Aang is a safe character; childish, and nearly everything he does works out in the end. But with Korra, it's the opposite; unlikable in the beginning, though soon develops into a respectable character. A more risky move, though an admirable one.

I personally hope this next Avatar finds a way to restore that connection to the past. I heard once that to give up on the past is to doom the future, but with this spiritual death, the next Avatar has lost a lot more than people realize. I'm making an Avatar fanfiction that focuses on the Firebender Avatar after the one talked about here, and while I'm not sure how the Spirit World or if past lives will factor in, it would be a shame if my OC had no way to contact past lives, in his case the Earthbender from here, Korra, Aang, and Roku, which in my mind is very important.

It was decent writing. I hated when Korra was stripped of her past lives. But that didn’t make it bad writing imo. It was subversion and shock. The decision was heartbreaking. But it wasn’t a bad one. The plot got interesting at that point and brought up questions about the avatar cycle in general. No one thought the avatar connection could be lost. Now it brings up new possibilities. Honestly it was fine. The kanji battle explanation was bad writing. Otherwise the show is good.
To me, it just seems like they know korra lost her connection, and they dont know if the future avatars will have connections going back to Korra, or none at all, so to make sure Korra passes on something to the next avatar, they write it down, because how would they be sure whether or not the future avatars have a connection to korra? Thats how i see it, a precaution.
Me too - and actually, what you said brings up an interesting thought: what if all that was required to reconnect the Avatar to their past lives is the reincarnation itself? That when Korra dies her spirit somehow reconnects to the past Avatars, or that dying allows her to access whatever plane of existence the other Avatars are on? Korra losing the connection to past lives makes sense with the overall themes of the series: the world is outgrowing the Avatar. Equalists wanted to remove bending altogether, Vaatu recontextualised the Avatar's purpose as a whole, Zaheer wanted a world free from rule, and Kuvira showed that the world can do just fine without the Avatar. Of course, all of these had massive consequences that aren't so nice, but every single one of these foes made Korra feel unnecessary.
Technology was advancing so fast that bending may become obsolete entirely, spirits were now living peacefully with humans, massive political reforms spread across the world with democracy becoming the new norm, and airbenders were now global peacekeepers. The world is changing and it doesn't need the Avatar anymore, Book 4 made that clear. Korra as the Avatar represents big changes to the way the world works, and that includes the role of the Avatar. Korra hates herself for losing that connection to the past, but it didn't really matter that much; being stuck in the past keeps you from moving forward. This is the same lesson that Aang learned.
Book 2 was just straight trash though, they absolutely could've done it waaaaay better. Varrick was easily the best part of it.
This is the only comment that I've seen have a very realistic approach to losing the Avatar connection. Thinking about it now, it would make sense since everything in the Avatar universe is advancing more. I would love to see your statement be explored more.
Edit: being stuck in the past won't get you far. Look at how Aang asked his past lives about how to defeat Ozai. Everyone said kill him, but he found another way to do it instead, which was energybending. It encourages progressing forward.

I’ve been thinking about this ever since I rewatched it again for first time in 5 years. People need to start opening new possibilities of where avatar is heading at. There’s a reason why the creators pick this timeline/setting and why they picked to cut off the past Avatar connections. It will make more sense as we progress with the new stories for Avatar. This is only the beginning of something new.
You have to have a patient mind about the choices the creators of avatar make. I know it’ll all make sense in the end. When I rewatched it again I kept it in mind that you cannot just simply hate that choice and act ignorant towards the show afterwards. We all have our own opinions in different views which helps us better understand the show rather than hate it on it fully.
Hate will get you no where and definitely won’t give you a reason to look forward with the whole series. If people hate korra then I’d advise them to not be happy about the new changes in the future. If they don’t like what the creators did then stick to ATLA. They clearly showed us that they want to expand more than to stay in one place.

The Air Nomad elders had an entire evacuation plan and training regime ready for Aang. At least Korra stepped up to the plate and trained and fought instead of running away. The scrapbook, An Avatar's Chronicle, doesn't seem to have Bryke's names attached to it anywhere, and there even seems to be some inconsistencies with it and Turf Wars.
Unlike with other Avatar scrapbooks that have the creators' names attached.
Additionally, in the scrapbook (if it is actually canon), Tenzin specifically says "where future Avatars MAY not have connections to their past lives". Keyword "may", basically meaning that they're not exactly sure, so the letters Korra is writing are more of a just-in-case.

I think the next avatar should be a villain. As in “the road to hell is paved with good intentions” kind of villain since he has no connection with the previous avatars to guide him. It would be great way to show the consequences of the mistakes made in the LOK, not to mention a good way to show that nothing is beyond corruption. And further the irony, it will be up to vatuu to save the day and restore balance to the world.
But that would be impossible because Korra defeated Vaatu (sorry if I spelt it wrong) in season 2.

It's hard not to hate her after what she did to the cycle
She didn't do anything to the cycle, She was clearly outmatched. If anything. blame the writers for driving themselves into a corner.
The whole thing about breaking the cycle wasn't that good of an idea, in my opinion, it didn't make the series any more interesting, it was just weird and irritating rather than good storytelling, its like relying on death to make your story more "Interesting" the writers just shoot themselves on the foot.
I could easily see an arc in the next show about the next Avatar trying to find a way to get the connections to their past lives back. It could either be part of a larger season long story or be the whole story of a whole season.
Also in korra's time they have the ability to do video recordings of her. That could also be a very helpful tool for the next Avatar.

If they do make a new avatar series then the main plot should be that they need to reconnect to the all the past avatars, and if they wanted to they could make most of the episodes in the spirit world. It would also be cool if the past avatars transformed into spirit creatures, the new avatar has to find each of the spirits and reconnect them with what they lost (probably a metaphor to all the past avatars losing the connection to the new avatar which affects them and their own souls in different ways.) it could also be a way on how the new avatar learns the different ways of bending.

This makes me want a 3rd Avatar series even more. The next Avatar learning how to manage in spite of the horrible tragedies that led to Korra losing Raava. And how much the world changes even further after Korra’s eventual final breath

The previous avatar spirits are in the spirit world/afterlife they are just not connected through rava. The new avatar could go into the spirit world and seek them out to find a way to restore the link.

If Aang could come back and restore her bending and connection with her past lives, I am sure that this new Avatar will find a way to restore the Avatar cycle. Perhaps at the end of the story.

I personally think that the avatar cycle has renewed. Korra will continue to connect with her future lives. Just as Wan did for his.

edit: sorry guys your replies made a lot of sense i thought it meant that they should spend a whole show explaining the whole lives of each avatar like how aang and korra’s were.
@@jimmyjam04 Not really, a lot of Avatars would be easy to access, they can go based off a heirloom of the Avatar, a place the Avatar loved or coming into contact with their spirit animals

And let's not forget that the reason why aang at the Avatar state was more powerful than Korra was aang was fighting with the strength and experiences of all the past avatars that was why he was more formidable than Korra who could be taken down easily still at the Avatar state. That's another disadvantage the new Avatar would have

Ironically, even when Korra had access to her past lives, she didn't really consult them much to begin with, and when she did need advice she sought human counsel until they didn't know what else to say and pointed her to her past lives. At least Korra was able to talk to Raava directly, and I hope she wrote about how to do that. Also, I think despite the loss of connection, it just makes Korra more human. It's about time they record these avatar memoirs anyway. Clearly the broken connection to her past lives is one of her biggest regrets, and as it goes, the regret carries on to the next cycle, in which case I hope the next avatar finds a way to restore their connection somehow.
She didn't have a spiritual connection because her personality was being hot headed in the first couple seasons. She wanted to become more spiritual by being taught by Unalaq.

Spirituality, in essence, is being able to tap into something greater than the self, a higher consciousness that allows one to connect to others and to the cosmos. And so, it has nothing to do with hotheadedness, but rather, being too self-focused. Korra learned to expand her consciousness and to start opening up to possibilities and greater consciousness beyond herself, and that is how she was able to finally start tapping into her spiritual self.

There's a higher chance that it's going to be a male. The last Earth Avatar is Kyoshi which is a female. Also, Yangchen then Aang. Kuruk, then Korra.
