  • Early detection is important because when cancer is found early, it may be easier to treat. By the time symptoms appear, cancer may have begun to spread and may more challenging to treat. A common frustration is that we find cancer when it has already spread or the tumor is too big for surgery.
In this vlog Dr Sue gives you her tips, which tests we should do, how often, things we can do to find cancer earlier, including:
✅ Blood tests and urine - can they detect cancer
    ✅ Veterinary visits
    ✅ Weight checks
    ✅ Lump and bump exams
✅ Cancer screening with chest X-rays and ultrasound
✅ Top 10 warning signs of cancer
⭐️ Bonus ⭐️ Dr Sue reviews the top cancers in dog and cats.

Thank you for this. This confirms my dog died of hemangiosarcoma. There is such a small chance to catch that, and it has such a poor prognosis. This was exactly what I needed to know for closure.

I have a 9 year old Pit Bull with a lump on her hip. I had it checked around 5 years old once and it was said to not be a problem. Now they believe it is cancer. This is a different doctor. But what I have noticed over the years is that most Vets now are not examining the dog and don't do blood work. Back in the 90's when I had a JRT at least twice a year the doctor would do a physical exam, checking ears, eyes, nose, and feeling the body. The last time I took my dog to a doctor he did not even touch my dog but based on a couple of things I said prescribed 4 different meds.
Thank you for this video it helps.

Sorry to hear that. Lump appeared four years ago and only now they say it's cancer? It's so scary to think it can lie dormant in a dog for so long like that.

Human doctors been that way for a while, I am beginning to really despise the lot of them, lost my partner of 6 years due to uselessness of an alt vet I had to use, I told them the exact issue but they just milked it. last time I bother with hacks and will take to a much better place albeit much more expensive. at best all I could have done was give her another year as the cancer just exploded in the last year and was every where but most organs where still healthy and functioning, some thing blocked her GI track, and I knew going in was the only option.

My golden retriever wasn't right and her gums were white on 4/3/24..rushed her to the vet and he gave her a cortizone shot and antibiotic shot. Her temp was 100.2 and WBC was elevated. Couldnt see anything on xray bc she still hadnt digested her morning food (it was 8pm!) I brought her home and put her under an electric blanket and got her warmed up. She was doing good and gums were again nice and pink. Then on 4/9/24 her daughter woke me up barking and crying. I jumped out of bed and Trinity had just collapsed in the bathroom floor. Within seconds she was gone! My heart is so broken!

My dog died from a MCT after almost a two year battle of the cancer.
Wish I found you back in the beginning, i was searching for a vet that did stelfonta and other non surgical treatments . Or at least was open to all possible treatments. So I could get the proper treatment for my dog.

Just found out my beagle most likely has prostate cancer. Had him to vet several times this summer as he seemed to be in pain..yelping with certain movements. .vet never did a urinalysis or xray ..just kept giving pain meds saying pulled muscle. So upset that.a simple urinalysis might have caught this sooner.

I love your channel I just wish I could get my parents to watch it. Every time I bring up that I want to get my 10 almost 11 year old Havanese mix to get a ultrasound and chest x-ray to check for internal cancers. They keep saying she’s fine she had blood tests and all of the vets have told you she’s fine stop it you’re being paranoid they don’t realize that cancers like you said, sometimes the only way to do it is to get routine exams the way humans get routine, colonoscopies, and mammograms.

I wish it was tested with my cat it was only found after she had shots. Now I want it prevented with my new cat had him for him for three month was neutered that was a nightmare with the bathroom had to use newspapers which hated. The cone he would remove. Then one day he held it in four two days his urine. He made it in his carrier when he went in the vet office. I thought he had a blockage. Then he found a hook worm he was wormed early August before he got neutered. Then he had ring worm I’m treating him for that. He changed after he was neutered he’s been more aggressive like suddenly attacking me since he never did he would caress his paw on my face. I don’t know if it’s from the meds first he took hook worm meds one pill the the other pill after three weeks. Now he’s on for ring worm the last one for five weeks. Then I will take him back for a follow up.

My poor old Misty Cat died on Sunday after only 3 days after starting chemotherapy, the vet said it would be fine cats tolerate chemotherapy very well it didn't, it died on the kitchen floor gasping for breath Misty was a 15 year old cat knowing what I know now I would have just had him put down ,all I can say think twice before you ever get chemotherapy for your cat it is horrific for you and your cat😥

First I am so sorry for your loss. It does sound like what you experienced was horrific. But I can tell you that from treating dogs and cats for over 20 years ,it is true that the majority of pets do indeed tolerate chemotherapy very well. It will depend on the specific cancer, how advanced it was and the over health of the patient. Regardless, I am sorry for your loss. With sympathy, Dr Sue

Why the cancer occurrences in dogs grew so dramatically? I remember my childhood dogs, none of them had cancer. For the last 20 years two of my five dogs had cancer. I read about 40% of dogs get cancer now.

My pet had a biopsy, I would like to know if there is a chance of saving her with chemo. Microscopic finding, epithelial neoplasma with hemorrhage and necrosis, probable chemodectoma.. description, the smears consist of low number of inflammatory cells with large amount of amorphous degenerate cellular debris on the grainy basophilic background. The inflammatory cells consist primary of degenerate neutrophilis with fewer macrophages and small lymphocytes. Hemosiderin and hematoidin pigment is noted in the macrophages. There is a population of epithelial cells. The cells are in cohesive aggregates, have round to sightly oval nucleus and a small amount circumferential grainy basophilic cytoplasm. Minimal anisocytosis and anisokaryosis is identified. Mass- x ray the large lobular soft tissue mass is suspected to be a cranial heart base..A mass within the caudal aspect of the cranial mediastinum unrelated to the heart base cannot be conclusively rule out. she also had a ct scan but I don't have the report at this time.. we don't have an oncologist In the city I have to travel 4 hrs.. that is why I would like to know if she has a chance of survival with chemo, or I just let her the way she is right now. She eats like always and she looks fine, normal. Thank you in advance. she is a 10 yr. Old german shepherd. The only sintom she has is weight loss.

That's great to do these X-rays and scans if they weren't so expensive. $200 for most ultrasound and $100 to start for 1 x-ray. Seriously your average pet owner can't afford this.
My dog was diagnosed with HSA. I had the dog at the vet and showed her several tag and she said they were nothing. He had a bleed from one of the tags that wouldn't stop bleeding...cancer. his cancer has spread. 3 months to live. We're on day 38. Of 86.

@@thehairtransformer God has blessed us with at least 8 more months with our baby. He's alive and doing good. It eats well. The mass has moved nearly 4 inches from the original spot where I found it. We've tweaked his diet and we pray. We pray a lot. We have his bandanas anointed every 3 months. He has about 4 that get rotated every month. He has arthritis also and there are days it's hard for him to get upstairs. We took him off all supplements as they were making him sick, throwing up, diarrhea.. He sleeps a lot. I'm not sure how much longer we'll have with him. He eats well. Walks are a little less lately but it's hot, like 90° hot and he's black. I treasure every day with him.

This hack blabbing is why your pet has cancer. A cancer vet failing to catch cancer in their own cat is like a fireman failing to put out a fire in the garage and letting the whole house burn to the ground. Fail.
