Necrolyte was unit in wc1 and had the raise dead spell. This class is nice call back to a game that doesn't get much recognition these days. I played wc1 a lot as a kid and would read the lore in the game manual over and over.
Can't wait for 60. It's been a long wait and there's still probably a long road to Beta. The entire CoA has been doing great work, just don't fret over making everything perfect or we'll all lose our collective minds in this project. XD
Been leveling a Necromancer and I'm loving the work you've done on the Animation Necro especially. Although I have encountered a few bugs, it certainly hasn't taken away from the experience. Loving everything so far.
love the class, mechanically seems very analog to current warlock and i like that, a slow moving but hard cc and dps class with enfasis in spell comboes. like death working with dots is akin to aff, ryme (frost necro) is akin to destro with all thst hard casting and cc and area denial, and animation is demonology by the sheer amount of pets (guardians) you summon, i like that.
can't wait for CoA to come out. All these classes look so damn cool. Will hopefully get me back into playing wow, because Ascension isn't really fun for me right now.
I hope there is a mode or toggle to allow you control over each summon one by one so you can have “groups” each targeting a different mob or have them all spread out to each attack their own enemy 1v1
Think it was made so you can use a command skill for each type separately so two mages attack one mob and three warriors on another with a kill command like skill that can make them all switch to a specific target
@@stevic781 I love the command system, I find it cool that if you can plan well a animation necromancer can mass attack a large group all at the same time by having each targeting a different enemy and he attacks another themselves
Abomination needs a taunt, or generate more threat. This is because at the start of a pull, the other summons can pull threat right away and get killed .
I remember for Ascension they straight up said they could never do multiple pets cause it was never built to do it, and i even said they could use the guardian system, and was told can't be done, so how the tables turn... and the class looks awesome!
Please PLEASE, let lich form be permanent form and not a short lasting buff. I desperately want that in classless WoW as a legendary enchant, and if thats the case here i am 1000% more hyped for this.
Will the Lich Form have any glyphs or customisation to it? I noticed the model used in the video looks pretty bare bones, no pun intended, compared to for example kel'thuzad with all of his robes and egyptian imagery and stuff, so having the option to look like your favorite liches from wc3 would be pretty cool.
I've been loving animation Necro, the amount of variable rotations, builds, and pet combinations is so much fun. I'm constantly learning what pet combos I want for different scenarios.
I like the idea of a necromancer being more focused on the magic rather than the undead minions, but that limitation doesn't matter as much if the death knight doesn't exist. My personal concept for a wow necromancer was with a blood healing spec, plague caster, and death caster. With a lich form activated ability that empowers the player for some time.
i know its gonna be a bit hard to find these days, but if the team is still looking for ways to enhance necromancer; take a look at City of Heroes/Villains Mastermind class. they are very similar to what necromancer has now except it was more akin to commanding your own party (1 dedicated healer minion, 3 dps minions and 1 tank minion)
I enjoy animation necromancer but think it should have more life force for permanent pets to make him sort of 1 man army instead of powerful pets that disappear after a duration that way even if mobility is a problem you have more pets to dish out dmg

The vibe I get from this class is less WoW DK and more War2 DK (which is good, they were cool and we haven’t heard a lot about them since Teron Gorefiend in the Black Temple).
Everything mentioned and shown about the rime necromancer literally matches the description of the frost mage, it's amusing. Although a death knight and a necromancer are different, they are not and cannot be fundamentally different as you said, since they wield the same powers and have a lot in common (dark magic, diseases, summoning, resurrecting, transforming the undead, frost and etc.). Still why not? Classes can be thematically similar but mechanicaly and lore-wise different like the priest and paladin, so it's nothing new here even for Blizzard. And while I've always supported the idea of a separate necromancer class, I've never heard anyone explain in any reasonable way how a necromancer is so different from a death knight, besides being a ranged caster and having different mechanics of basically the same spells and some lore differences. Also the affliction warlock in many ways resemble the necromancer. The animation necromancer looks interesting. Expected to see a necromancer healer too.
It would be cool to have tanking spec, where there minion takes all the hits and necromancer provide necrotic bubble and drain their hp their undead minion and have their own version of misdirect when they do damage and have threat goes towards the undead minion that takes the hits.

Awesome video, probably the best representation so far on the class so far, i could imagine myself playing it, i truly cant wait for CoA to fully release, it has the potential to be great. Few things bothered me in this spotlight about the necromancer fantasy, one spell in the rime tree you said is giving him blink and the other one in Animation was giving him the ability to transform into montrosity. I have played alot of Warcraft 3 and WoW so i am sorta familiar with how necromancers work so is really giving Necromancer any sort of blink staying true to the necro fantasy and how is giving him ability to transform into monstrosity also true to the necro fantasy? I havent seen any Necromancers blink nor transform, also i havent seen Cripple or Unholy Frenzy which are both related to this class.
I played a lot of CoA, mostly because I found my love in Chronomancer, but after they utterly destroyed one of the most unique specs in displacement, turning it into a generic healer, I quit. I'm curious to see what's become of it since my leaving.

This was really cool but it seems weird starting at level 1. They should be a type of class ascendancy like the vanilla devs originally planned for adding all hero classes. So you first would level up the 9 base classes and then can do a quest line to switch into a hero class based on your class and race. They were planning for nightelf warriors able to become demon hunters at lvl 40. Blademasters from orc warrior, necromancer access maybe to mages and warlocks of all races, maybe even priests. Look into it. Edit: it is unique though im curious how this goes

But the way you show it feels like it is one of those classes that isn't even easy to start with, right off the bath. Take in consideration that i never played official WoWs(probably never will either), and that Ascension will probably be my first WoW game. But if one of my favourites types of fighting style, like summoner/necromancer is hard to play, right off the bath, i would feel kinda disappointed by that.
Death Knight =/= Necromancer. Death Knights in lore are scary, for sure. But like... in gameplay? This Necromancer is much more interesting than DK ever was to me. This is what we should have gotten instead.

@vancea89 yes, look up old guides. It always cycled out and buffed temporary demons, never had more than 1 permanent. The main difference being that if interrupted immediately (pvp) necro will still have many permanent pets out like a beast master hunter. Retail demo has basically never given you 3-6 permanent pets, only temporary imps and felhunters etc.

Regardless, I played lock and DK during legion, and have access to necro. It doesn't feel the same at all. I think the necromancer is a really well made class. It is multi pet class which helps make it feel different from frost mage or warlocks, the 3 choices of specs makes a lot of sense and I Ike there is different difficulty levels. Yeah animate which is the most of the basic class fantasy is very advanced but it should be. You are commanding a army with figuring out the right summons for the right situations, trying to figure out the best permants for you and keeping a eye out for the pets. Because one thing I loved of dota is someone's pet was scouting and they find someone walked by and they are punished because the player noticed and took advantage of their pet. I can imagine that playing apart in this that while it can be hectic you noticing "hey there is someone near this zombie. Explode" can lead to amazing moments. And again rime and plagues fit the warcraft specialty of necromancers and liches so a perfect option. Honestly this is a class that doesn't need a 4th spec because I don't know of anything that would really make sense unless there is some splitting gameplay of animate that is so different then there is a druid feral situation but I doubt that. The class does the fantasy well, it Is unique compared to the other classes, and is a experience that people can fall in love with

I still find it Strange and bad gamedesign that you still one shot normal mobs on every Level, why we even have a level phase, when there is no difficulty… I mean it would be nice if we can say yes! I got the pack of 5-8 Killed and not doing massive aoe pulls without any braincell :)

Animation reminds me more of the witchdoctor playstyle D3/Demo lock for current wow fusion. Neat and creative.

Also Grave March should not give Threat, because if you send in the pets using this ability, the enemies go for the necromancer.

I wish that animation nerocs had a AOE. When doing MS it gets a bit rough tab targeting just to tag stuff so you can get exp when giests go crazy
