About the abortion story ... I knew Bishop John Gimenez of Rock Church for years when he first opened a home for young people who were addicted to drugs. My mother volunteered with them to paint that home before it opened. I waited on them at the restaurant as a 2nd job nearby in the 1980s when he, his wife and friends came in after church services on Sundays. Very kind to me. A street is named after him in Va. Beach. R.I.P.
A very good group of people at the station. And an EXCELLENT staff. I forget the name of the news director, but he really turned around the news operation, when channel 3 had been the long time leader. And newsroom and studio in an old produce warehouse in Portsmouth!
Old-school computer graphics? Check. Electronic theme? Terry (subbing for Bob Grip) and Diana? Check. Now-retro logo? Moustaches on Don and Bruce? Double-check! Tidewater? Big old check! I remember this era quite well. Back then, they spelled out W-A-V-Y instead of saying WAVY on-air. I am so old!
The 1983 World Series wound up pitting the Baltimore Orioles against the Philadelphia Phillies. Wonder if Diana made a couple bucks on that bet with Bruce.
Tragic murder of a child at Norfolk General Hospital. Parenthetically, the sports focused on last title before the local Orioles franchise was eventually ruined by the poisonous Lord Peter Angeloser.
I love seeing these old videos from the 80s
I remember that logo etc
Terry Zahn RIP
Thanks for including even the old commercials in the newscast intact. Green Stamps - WOW!
No Beach Ford Commercial!

Good Question: Who Did Voiceover Plugs For The 11pm Newscast For WAVY-TV 10 In 1983-84?
Dow was $1236!
I am surprised there were so many Bigger newscasters in the early 80s in Virginia.
Amazing that the school has barely changed since the 80s lol
