wonderful harmonies with golden voices. Greetings to Ireland from Switzerland. I have to visit this beautiful country called emerald isle again and again.
I first heard and saw The Johnstons at the Hind's Head folk night in Aldermaston village in the 60's . When they struck up with the first number , I was so thrilled ..... the wonderful harmonies and the vitality and passion made my heart race and the hairs stand up on the back of my neck . I fell in love with Adrienne that night ..... no hope of marriage , but she asked for my medallion which I willingly gave . That was a night to remember and cherish ..... to hear them live in a small pub backroom could not be beaten . Thank you for making this available Jessica , and for giving an old fellah a treat . The Johnstons still thrill , and shouldn't be forgotten .
First heard The Johnstons when I was in my teens. Used to sing a lot of their songs with my then boyfriend. Long time ago now, but I still love to listen and sing along with them. Those days will never return! Many, many happy memories.
Every time I hear these tracks of The Johnstons , I thrill to those close harmonies . I was so lucky to have seen them live in the intimacy of a pub performance and having a chat with them .... thanks to the group and glory to you Adrienne . x
I first heard this album in 1971, when I was19 and a bit of a hippy. They had another one called” The Johnston’s sampler.” It started my lifetime love of Irish music. Listening to it now makes me realise just what a great band they were. Absolutely timeless and beautiful
@@tonylenton8385Hi, Tony! In this year, I heard their Spanish Lady via radio in Saarbrücken (near german/french Border) and was quick enough to record it on my Grundig taperecorder in high quality. I was 22 an came from Berlin to study there. This wonderful record was the only one I had of them for about 10 years, when I started to find more and more CDs from them, if I remember right. They absolutely belonged to the top groups of their time with harmonies, playing and arrangements - and the girls so pretty.
Fantastic, what a time in Irish music,we had the Johnston's, Emmet spiceland, the Paterson's and later the Morrisseys a wonderful time in Irish music, what raw talent they all had, beautiful, thanks for the video,
Always loved this group and this album in particular. . Raw and very real performances. . . Straight from the heart and lightly produced. . This is REAL music. . Love it!
We had this lp at home back in the 70s, my father when he was alive loved Irish music. Incredible album, some terrific tunes on there I Never Will Marry & Curragh Of Kildare being my favourites. Love their vocal harmonies also.
Ditto.....used to play it over and over in the 70s / early eighties...and wore those big massive earphones so as not to drive everyone else mad....hadn't heard this album for over 35yrs but remembered the order of play and all the tunes.....good childhood memories 🙂
Used to sing these songs with two boys I was at school with. Sadly they are no longer with us, so brings back happy memories and I love singing along! x
Ohh, a gem, a gem, I think I had this on vinyl when I was still at school - you know, shut up in the bedroom and playing the thing over over and over again, wearing out the needle and getting cursed at ... Thanks for posting! :D
give best regards from fritz from germany who has been a fan since 1971, and that the johnstons were the reason to travel through ireland hitchhiking in 1972... 46 years ago....
I've recently rediscovered this album as I remember it from my childhood. I have it on vinyl...

Bmullard Make sure its the original Marble Arch mono issue (collection of Pye mono singles) and not the later, ghastly Hallmark iasue. Not only did that latter change the running order but it also processed the recordings for "electronic stereo". YUK !
Thanks, didnt found this album on Tidal. Alltough you find the most on the streaming sites like spotify, there are still lots of stuff out there that you need to go elsewhere for. TH-cam for instance.
could you upload more of the johnstons,´records, please?.. i have a lot of songs, but they were reeltape thin-tape recordings from records, poor quality... By the weay: your recordings have a little beep tone in silend parts of the recording.. seems a mistake of the software . try the n°23 recorder for better results, i use it myself
