Surprisingly, there aren't as many bad places to live in Illinois as you might think (I've lived in 10 states in my life, including Illinois). Most people think of Chicago and all its problems when they think of Illinois, but geographically, Chicago is a miniscule part of the state (I've read that bills have been introduced to secede the rest of the state and leave Chicago on its own). Illinois is primarily farmland and small communities; away from the big cities, you'll likely find a good place to live. Offhand, I cannot think of any horrible places to live besides Chicago, East St. Louis, and Decatur.
Helped build a solar farm in Vineland, Too Bad about the USELESS union labor that ran the job into the ground!!! Nice job IBEW 351... Big call out to a P.O.S. named Sneathen!
I've lived in Decatur and stay about an hrs drive away now, but my father just bought a house in the area. Very blue collar town w not much opportunity, gangs and crime taking over, business moving away. Sad place!
Yeah im from Watertown, ny and your right it sucks here.abd yes its really cold dark and dreary. Very depressing place to live ,cant wait to move away someday.
Born in Watertown, raised in Jefferson county. Left at 19 and never looked back. Most snow east of the Rockies, taxes even higher, and whatever policies NYC wants NYS gets.
Briggs did you notice that in Fairbanks Alaska the picture you showed was of Santa Claus but it looked like Santa Claus was peeing on a tree with Christmas lights🎄😂😉 The declining Kansas population is the one which surprised me the most. I have a lot of friends in the area and none have complained about their children not having decent jobs. BTW or FYI... Food stamps, EBT, SNAP are all the same thing. It is a federal program supplying supplemental food buying to a population under low income stats. It doesn't mean the people aren't working it just means they aren't making much money above the poverty rate.
Lawton is fine. As a Kiowa tribal member, nearly all of my family live in Lawton or surrounding. Tribal events and family gatherings happen all the time. I can see that if you're not from the area or do not have Native ties, then Lawton could be depressing. For me though, wide open prairie, rolling hills, buffalo, wind, and family is all I'll ever need. It's different when you're tied to the land through family history and stories. Lawton is my home and will always be my home. The people that leave weren't from here to begin with.
Another great video. Those towns have to be really horrendous. I've never been to any of them, but I have been to some beaten down, low employment, high crime and nothing-to-do towns, and they aren't in the list. I figure those have to be quite bad.
Also, when the cost of living is low (like Watertown, NY) it likely means that oganic and grassfed foods might be difficult to find since they cost more than what people in those communities are willing to pay.
Well that's what happens when you establish an open border policy, it always ends up being a free for all, literally. No one even considered the possibility that opportunistic drug runners would reign supreme???!!! Of course if you are getting a percentage you want to keep the borders open in perpetuity in order to have years and years of cash flow. When you need a bigger war chest what do you do? You run more drugs and damned the safety and welfare of legal tax paying citizens. Your economy Boom (drugs) has Busted California, Newsom. You must enjoy being a crime boss. Bill Clinton did. Cocaine distribution went up 2/3 in Arkansas during his Governorship. How do you think he got in tight with Papa Bush? Drugs don't run themselves, it takes a well organized hierarchy. Papa was good at that. Newsom is just the newest crime boss. That's all.
@@napamoonlight9997 When have the borders ever been open? The us has one of the toughest entry and immigration policies in the world. And, since the start of the pandemic, the border has been closed.
@@vmvm3857 Wrong. The border has been restricted to essential traffic only. That means every person saying they have to care for a family member gets a pass. My neighbor goes all the time and everyone in her family has had Covid. The power brokers, Rep and Dem allow illegals to enter to maintain cheap labor and if that means there is residual drugs and crime, Oh well. It doesn’t touch them. Thirty years ago they at least had immigration surprise visits which meant 10% of Ca workforce ran. Never ever see that anymore. I have had more scrutiny traveling to UK, UAE, Turkey, etc. than in the US. If you overstay a visa in UAE, you’ll spend time in jail.
Yikes! I lived in Fairbanks, AK from 2010-2015. I left because I couldn’t handle the long, dark, freezing winters. Also, i was looking for a job change and there aren’t a whole lot of options in central AK. Beautiful place, just not for me 😂
What about some videos about people turning to van life, the best and worst places for them. I watched the video you did on home prices and Hawaii was the highest, but I think you should rank each island, you can buy homes and land on the big island pretty cheap. I was considering buying a piece of land rent to own for Few hundred dollars a month but that was also.25 miles away from the worlds most active volcano, but if you look at a topographic map and past flows you can find safer land. And how about a video on the difference in home prices in a state, like the cheapest average homes on the market to the highest average, kinda like in East Cleveland Ohio you can buy a home for 3,000$, and what’s the average expensive homes in Ohio. Just trying to give you a few more video ideas, keep up the good work.
Today on fb a house akin to a mansion showed up that was for sale in Decatur. It was $120,000. I live in Wv which is basically poverty central. That house would’ve been $500,00 here. Hi Briggs, just a few thoughts on Farmington. I was born there and while I did not grow up there, I've been back several times and kinda keep track of the homeland. Farmington lost a large source of employment when the Navajo Generating Station, and its supporting coal mine closed. These are jobs that will probably never come back and while they should be offered re-training in other fields I don't see any sign of that happening (please bring me up to date if this is happening). Another industry that took a hit was oil. Farmington is oil country but when the price of crude fell so did the oil jobs along with the supporting businesses. They simply had to cap many of the wells. From what I understand, the oil here is old oil and hard to get out of the ground. Covid hit the Navajo Nation hard. I'd wear a mask if you go to Farmington. To my mind the biggest problem with Farmington is there is just no good way to get to it since its a good hour and a half from I-40. I enjoy your video's, keep'm coming!
I'm really surprised to see Manhattan, KS on this list. I went to Kansas State for undergrad and graduate school. It is a nice town. It is really quiet when University classes are out. Then, I was never much of a party animal and if that is what you want look elsewhere. Jobs are thin for new graduates of K-State. I do know people who have moved back to Manhattan to retire.
El Centro, CA is the only city on this list that I've been to, and yeah, it was only because I was driving from San Diego to Tucson. And I remember thinking, why do people live here?
I stopped there in the 1970s to get breakfast. I bought a newspaper at the local dinner and ordered two fried eggs, bacon and toast. I thought it was a quite somewhat quaint little town with a bit of charm. I can see it having appeal to the kind of person who want's to be isolated.
@@asherdog9248 I was stationed in Yuma in the early-80s. El Centro did not have a bad reputation then, but 40 years ago, Yuma was a nice place to live too. Things change.
The US Navy most likely is El Centro's largest employer with a Naval Air Facility outside of town that's been there since 1946. One use of the Base is for West Coast Assigned Navy Fighter Bomber Squadrons that practice Munitions Delivery at the Yuma Proving Grounds while the Base is also the Winter Home of the US Navy's Acrobatic Team, The Blue Angles. The last time I was on a Detachment at NAF El Centro (1981), there was only one Bar in town, the "Brickhouse".
How about doing a video about small towns people are moving away from with the population under 25,000 or a video on cities and towns in Indiana that people are moving away from
Shame about Albany Ga. In the 70's I was stationed at NAS Albany in a photo reconnaissance squadron. Back then Albany was a great community, not to bad on crime. Of course, the Navy left and I guess the city went to crap.
Unfortunately while many complain about the defense budget, the real truth revealed in this video is that our armed forces have been cut in size significantly. These military towns from even smaller Air Force bases to mid sized Army bases are mostly hurting. No one wants to put a factory into a town with fighter jets sonic booms, or with the big guns blasting away all night...
Here's my take: 1)Had a shipmate (he was one of the best mechanics I've ever dealt with) on-board the USS Midway from Shiprock, NM. 2) Stayed 1 night in Hotel Gadsden in the early 2000's, (wish I could've stayed longer- great old hotel) 3) Worked an outdoor job in Watertown, NY. during May (early 2000's), snow still on the ground, you can have it.

Manhattan Ks also has Tuttle Creek reservoir which has a dam build on a fault line, and has had sink holes appearing below the dam the last few years as well. If the dam goes, so does a big part of the town. Also have a infectious disease research facility which works with "nasty biological diseases" just like wuhan
Being retired Army, I can safely say that Fort Polk is by far the worst duty station. Fort Sill and Fort Drum are bad, but with Polk you have that humidity and there is absolutely nothing outside of the post. Fort Lee, VA is also pretty bad because it's the ghetto right outside of the gates. Fort Hood is a bad area (as you've heard in the news), but Austin is an hour South so you have a place to venture out to. I was surprised that Killeen (Fort Hood) wasn't on this list.

I have been to Watertown NY a couple of times and yes the city itself sucks. It is a relatively small city with big city problems and it has lost most of its industry. It is a very rough city and you had to be careful when out on the streets especially after dark. Many of its neighborhoods were very rundown and poorly kept.
Hahaha... Vineland, I moved from there. And you are 100% correct about the tax issues in NJ.

I've lived in Decatur and stay about an hrs drive away now, but my father just bought a house in the area. Very blue collar town w not much opportunity, gangs and crime taking over, business moving away. Sad place!

Ugh....Decatur stinks. Literally. Just vile.
I have a friend from Decatur she said most of her friends left after graduation to move to St Louis or Chicago due to no jobs
My grandparents lived in Decatur from 1970-1980. They sold their house for $10000 in 1980. The house is worth now $20000.
Ive only visited 2 of these towns, Lauton & Farmington. Loved them both! Really good, kind people living there.
What’s up Briggs?!?!? Merry Christmas and Happy New Year’s!!!
And to all a good night and I'm outta here you all.
I grew up near Watertown and I hate to say it but I am not surprised it made number 1 on the list.
Yeah im from Watertown, ny and your right it sucks here.abd yes its really cold dark and dreary. Very depressing place to live ,cant wait to move away someday.

Stay in the city holes ready in the country
Born in Watertown, raised in Jefferson county. Left at 19 and never looked back. Most snow east of the Rockies, taxes even higher, and whatever policies NYC wants NYS gets.
I lived in Fairbanks, I can understand people moving out. Hubby was military we were stationed there in 1970.
Briggs did you notice that in Fairbanks Alaska the picture you showed was of Santa Claus but it looked like Santa Claus was peeing on a tree with Christmas lights🎄😂😉
The declining Kansas population is the one which surprised me the most.
My son did boot camp there. I really enjoyed it. I'd move there
Another great video. Those towns have to be really horrendous. I've never been to any of them, but I have been to some beaten down, low employment, high crime and nothing-to-do towns, and they aren't in the list. I figure those have to be quite bad.
you've never been to any of them...but they're horrendous. Ok, I think I understand. Not.
Also, when the cost of living is low (like Watertown, NY) it likely means that oganic and grassfed foods might be difficult to find since they cost more than what people in those communities are willing to pay.
I left Portland and went to southern Oregon..its amazing here👍
You should look at Hemet, CA. It’s basically run by the Sinaloan Cartel! Including the nearby communities of Homeland and San Jacinto, CA!
My father used to live in San Jacinto 18 years ago. He loved it there.
SJ and Hemet used to be nice retirement communities until the gangs and riffraff started moving in.

I knew it had to be a high crime area. What a shame. The house was amazing. Sure hope things get better soon for our nation.
The nation won’t get any better under Joe China Biden.
A south instead of north Jersey town mention, that's a first! You must have picked the nicest photos of the Vineland area that you could find though, most spots around there are way worse. At number 9!!, you're right about El Centro, CA!! I was born and raised there (not by choice), graduated and moved to Phoenix, AZ in 95!! I never looked back!! As soon as I left, I started calling it; Hell-Centro!!!
The top paying jobs in El Centro are;
1.) Be a farmer, 2.) Be a Police Officer, 3.) Be Border Patrol, 4.) Be a highway patrol, 5.) Be a Prison Guard!!! Those are your only options to make over $70,000 a year (before tax).

Thank you for sharing your experience with us all
A lot of people are moving away from New Jersey? Wow I wonder why...
Fairbanks, Alaska is a suburb of Anchorage economy has basically stopped and people are moving further out if into the bush or leaving the state
El Centro, CA is the only city on this list that I've been to, and yeah, it was only because I was driving from San Diego to Tucson. And I remember thinking, why do people live here?
Some rich person's ant farm...
I stopped there in the 1970s to get breakfast. I bought a newspaper at the local dinner and ordered two fried eggs, bacon and toast. I thought it was a quite somewhat quaint little town with a bit of charm. I can see it having appeal to the kind of person who want's to be isolated.
I drive by it to get to San Felipe. It's what I imagine purgatory must look like.
I have family in the Vineland, NJ and surrounding area. My husband born and raised there. Not much has changed. We live in Florida.
I lived in Ogdensburg, New York a little over an hour from Watertown and the funny thing is people from Ogdensburg went to Watertown in order to do something lol. Mall, movie and dinner. I preferred to go to Ottawa which was an hour north.
