Super cool 👍 Good video. I had a 1979 back in the 80s. Went Through the same clutch adjustment sequence as you have done with the 102 comet Took the C weight and ground in a decent radius to get it to engage at about 5200 . The Yamaha clutch built more rpm. However would over heat the cylinders in deep wet snow. I run banshees in the sand now and a RZ 350 on the street.
Thanks for sharing the great knowledge on the comets!! and clutching benefits in general, clutching clutching clutching! performance depends on it.Going to open up my ss 440,95 phazer and srv 540 clutches now and double check the weight wear for engagement. :) That SRX is a beast and getting rarer!! Keep the old sleds going.Love the vintage yamahas!
Those Exciters are still fun sleds. If you need a new cdi box, I’d go with one from Fireplug CDI. They build them brand new in Michigan, I have one on my SRX and a couple of my Deere’s.
Not enough people working on old sleds pay attention to the clutches, great job!
Thanks for sharing all the clutching concepts. Very helpful!
Nice work! LOVE the old SRX!

You can definitely make it faster… a whole lot faster. Competitive with the sleds nowadays from horsepower to weight ratio.

I wonder if the secondary is shifting out to quick, lowering the rpms as you go
Nice sled if I could find a srx I'd buy one but to find one now is wishful thinking so I have to stick with my ex440a that needs a cdi box !

Thanks !
belt looks a little long might want to check center to center you need a notch on weight to get a better take off
This sled is known to stretch belts out, it is probably time for a new one since that’s the one that came with the sled
If you know anything about a srx the stock setup is the best
Cylinders where chrome plated when. Stock
Sell me that sled. Please and thank you
u better learn jetting before u touch it. these engines are tickiung time bombs
get rid of those butterfly carbs and convert to roundslide 40mm.
This the wrong man working on this sled
Why am I the wrong one to work on it??
