Can I just say please that I have learned more from this video and the St Louis blues video than anything else. You have transformed my playing. Thank you very much for giving up your time for blokes like me. Much appreciated. Keep up the lessons please, your style is excellent and very easy to learn from. Thanks again.
No, thank you! I understand that a guitar player should make a song his own... blah, blah, blah.... but Bill Broonzy's fills are just 100 times cooler than anything I would come up with. With other old blues songs, I get close enough, but I want to get Broonzy as close to note perfect as possible with none of my crap infecting it. He is my favorite player.
I started learning country blues from one of Grossman's lessons. He teaches the basics very nicely, but he seems to teach HIS version of these songs instead of explaining how the "original versions" were performed. Woody Mann seems to do the same thing sometimes. Guys like Jon Miller, Ernie Hawkins, Tom Feldman, and Ari Eisinger teach the old stuff almost note-for-note. I really like their videos! Thanks!
Thanks! I spent a lot of time listening to this song - and still have parts to figure out. It's not difficult, but Big Bill was very creative - adding variations to his playing each time around.
@BitchBeTrollinHard IF you need tab, I suggest you order one of the many excellent instructional videos available from Steffan Grossman's guitar workshop. Once you learn the basic concepts of this style, you can figure out most anything w/o needing tab. But, these videos all include nicely done tab books. I strongly recommend Steffan Grossman's three parts series on learning country blues guitar.
Thanks! If you want to hear my favorite version of this song, check out Katie Webster singing it. She recorded on Excello - the same label with Slim Harpo. They should have it on TH-cam somewhere. I only wish I could sing it like Big Bill. I'm glad you are enjoying me lesson - thanks again!
Hi. I came to this vid through Steve Goodman's version of the same song. It appears he clearly stole it from BBB. Does anyone have a written tab of this? I can figure it out fine with the vid, but tab would be faster for me. Thanks!
I like Grossman's version, and his instruction videos in general, but his version of Glory of Love just ain't quite as punchy as Bill Broonzy's. In fact, there rarely even try to get the fills like Big Bill. This guy has it down better than anyone, tab or no.
Come on...is there any real reason to be getting on his case like this?... unnecessarily...so angry and impulsive. To curse at him??? Yeah, it would be helpful if he let some people who want to hear the whole thing first; how many minutes into it to slide forward to. This guy is nice enough to go through this free lesson. There are a lot of better places and people to direct anger at...that's for sure, but it's not him. Its just a relaxing good lesson. Love is Love...How can you learn and play a song about love with all that anger in you???
Are you going to play the song or not. Call me crazy, but if you want to have people tune in to your lesson, you're going to have to play the song through. You did not do that. So i'm bailing out after only 3 minutes. Bad lesson, if you can call it that.

thanx a lot for the lesson, being not familiar at all with monotonic bass, it could be a good starting point to learn...
