So much to learn about…very impressive. I agree; deck boards next to each other more functional. If sealed well, I wouldn’t think you’d have drainage or wood rot issues.
Best to put side rails together first before attaching to roof in one piece. Also you can add the bolts and t-nuts to the straight bracket (just catch the threads) and slide it into the rail from an end -- just line it up to the middle of the splice and tighten. No chasing t-nuts.
Let me check! Sorry didn't see this until recently. I ordered from Unaka from their wheelbase options. 159 Ram Promaster because they know the roof mounts. Link in description takes you to Unaka and search for Roof rack promaster. I'll measure because i did special length for slight overhang in the back for rooftop deck. Be back :)
excellent episode and of great interest because I am considering the same rack versus a custom build. After the fact and considering the premium $$s for the Unaka would you still pick it?
Thanks! Yes I would. Especially since I tried Unistrut first and painting that. And then having the coating come off and putting together it was way too heavy. Unaka reps designed the whole thing for me and included everything.

Or trying to hold the two rails together properly
Vince, 80/20 has some roll in nuts that you can add to the channel at any time. They are expensive (what isn't with 80/20) but allows you to add.
Ed, that is awesome! I looked into and getting those in soon. Was wondering what those were! Lol thank you!
Would it not be easier to put it together off the van and then lift it up and install to the roof?
Looks awesome! What is the total length of your rails?
