The next scene was in slow motion, did you not catch that? He noticed it as they were already outside the building, at which point Waltz blew the entire thing up, meaning that even if the chomo had noticed it it wouldn't have been in time to get outside.
Did you also think the astronauts in Apollo 13 were just walking really slowly for no reason?
