Since I'm randomly binge watching through your channel and haven't watched any episodes of this knife yet that I can remember I'm going to say I would like to see that handle material used both ways on the same knife with a black micarta spacer about a quarter inch wide diagonally through the center of the handle.
If it were me Id be going back and forth in my mind, whether or not going vertical would be to much of the same thing. Ultimately I think I would use the burl side to make a nice contrast. Great knife all the way around, love it.
I use black finger nail polish, you have to let it dry for a minute then you can draw what ever you want in it then you let it cure and go ahead and etch it.
You went to some trouble to get the vertical lines etched the way you wanted them (looks great, by the way) and I think you almost have to orient the scales the same way, with the grain running vertically. It would be almost visually jarring to see part of the knife oriented vertically and part of the knife oriented horizontally. My opinion, worth every penny you're paying for it.
Awesome knife man! So I have a question and you normally are good at answering so I made a similar knife from a old file that belonged to my gpa and it turned out awesome but when I did my clean up after my glue up, I took off the acid etch from the spine and belly part of handle so my question is can I re- dip it into the acid”ferric mixture”? If so will the acid”ferric” mess up my handle material which is a blue dyed stabilized maple with some paper liner I made? Please let me know about my concern. Thank you so much and man let me tell you, I’ve learned so much from watching your channel so thank you for that also!!
I will use a Q-tip or a cotton ball to re-apply the acid to the spine and belly. It shouldn't hurt your scales or liners. Something to be mindful of is if they are white sometimes it will stain them yellow.
When I quench my knifes, I wire brush them after to give them a good look. For some reason, I have been getting discoloration in the metal.( black rings ) there has also been a weird texture of dots around the blade. Anyone knows what causes this? How to fix it?
YES - Sweeeeet!! I vote for showing the burl!!
Take my money!!!!Awesome knife...see the burel
Awesome finish! And let's see those burls!!
The finish on that blade is fantastic, I love it. I think the scales should be vertical.
I am for the burl it’s looking awesome
I like the burl 👍
Really like the way it came out awesome job

Beautiful. Wow.
Vertical lines i would chose. I love your work man. You do a fine explication on everything.good luck in future
Them scales are going to look great, highlight the black n green as much as possible so vertical strips would look the best I think
Vertical to match the plunge line, but its goin to look great either way honestly
Love the finish, I would use the burial side I think it will flow better with the knife shape.
Blade looks fantastic, I would use the pearl side for the handle scales.

I like it it is a good look I would like to see the burl
Yes, vertical to not take away from the vertical etching.
Go with the marbled burl
run the wood grain vertical to match your blade
Good Blade, do scales so you can see burl, if you show the lines they will be different from those on the blade and it may clash.
good point.
Looks great personally I’d rather see the burial side of the scales
Vertical would match up with the forging marks better than the Burl would IMHO
Interesting and educational! What does coffee etch do after acid? Thanks.💥👌
The coffee just intensifies the etch, it makes the black even blacker.
Awesome finish! Never saw coffee used before. How long do you leave it in the coffee?! Cream or sugar? LOL
lol, if you're doing a coffee etch, it only takes a couple of hours. I've seen people soak them in coffee for 5 plus hours.
Very cool look. Is that just electrical tape that you are marking on. Thanks

the grind lines go upside down so i´d like the handles´lines go upside down as well...
Scales one side vertical and the other marbled.
Looks awesome- can I buy it?
I guess not. :(
Hey Eric, How do you heat your acid. I like the burl side for the scales. Awesome looking blade!
Typically just with my heat gun.

Show the burl! 🤙🏼🇨🇦🔪
looks so good. what is the black substance @4:00?
Black finger nail polish.

How important is it to use distilled water instead of tap water?
I would say pretty important, but that's just me. I don't want the extra chemicals and minerals to mess with the etching process.
Definitely vertical. Could you give the dimensions of it?

That's gonna be from Decarbonization, I typically leave my self a bit of material to be able to grind passed that after the heat treat process.
