Nah, they’re putting a muffler on a shooting star. Dude is a generational talent. You’re not protecting his arm from damage, you’re just putting a cap on how great he can be. He could have potentially had two no hitters now as a rookie. I’m not advocating he throws compete games every start, but if a guy has a no hitter with two innings left, you let him ride it out. Would I rather see 10 years of 7 scoreless innings, or 5 years of 5 no hitters? As a fan, I want the latter 100 times out of 100. And as a player, a shorter career by a few years is a small price to do things never seen before in the sport

@@thelemonlimeninja2144 I understand what you're saying and I agree to an extent. However, from what we've seen, the probability that he can get multiple no-hitters sometime in the future where pitch count *isn't* an issue is so high that I think waiting a little bit is probably the move

Speaking of Nolan Ryan. One of the greatest stats I have ever seen was was from 1974. Ryan pitched 13 innings and struck out 19.
That is impressive but he also threw 235 pitches in that game. Yep. That's not a typo. A pitcher today tries and throw more than say 80
pitches and he will require a trauma team,a help dog, and 3 trips to a psychiatrist.

    • @markharbaugh8878
      @markharbaugh8878 หลายเดือนก่อน

1- watch Nolan Ryan’s mechanics. Flawless. 2- most coaches try not to mess with mechanics when they get a kid who throw flames. 3-Brings us to why so many young pitchers are having Tommy John. Short term results are more important to teams than long term are…
Nolan pitched until his arm finally said “you are done…” 46 years old! And then he came back and threw a first pitch years later and still clocked in at 85…

Koufax burned out but many others were able to pitch 9 innings or more and had long careers. Would the 22 year old Skenes break down if he threw 120 pitches? Not likely. I had somewhat of a rubber arm in little league and highschool so my approach to no-no’s in the big leagues has always been. If they’re at 110 or lower going into the 9th with a no-no then you let them go out. They get until 120 and you pull them if they go over. Context does matter but in this case the context would have me want to send him out there more. If it’s game 160 and you’ve wrapped up a playoff spot or are eliminated then nah but this early into the year and it being his rookie campaign. Could’ve been a legendary moment to begin the kids career. I’m not mad at the manager though. Just always been my approach to the pitch count. I threw 130 in a blowout loss in highschool which fucked my arm but I routinely went over 105-110 with little repercussions from the ages of 13-17

It's that he has some pitches that are as good as anyone in league, and he can freaking DOT them!!! His command isn't talked about enough on most platforms because his stuff is so nuts, but his command is godlike. How many times does he hit the lines and corners? On top of that he GETS BETTER as the game goes, he started rolling yesterday and while brewers pitcher was pitching more, skenes pitch count went down each inning. I forget it if was the 6th or 7th when he just decided to get some strikes on up and in fastballs and dotted them all... I swore out loud at that first k on backdoor slider and just had to call a friend who literally answered his phone with "How are you supposed to deal with that??? He knew instantly why I was calling and yeah... He's delivered beyond a long suffering pirate fans greatest expectations. I think if pirates could just get some more consistent keller games and Jones back healthy that the pirates could legit make a run in the second half, but now maybe I'm reaching too far lol... bullpen has issues and overusing chapman/bednar can only last so long. To finish the game he would have to have thrown around 120 pitches. Absolutely the right decision to take him out. All of the idiots saying he should have stayed in are typical. Instant gratification above everything else instead of the long view. That’s why all of those saying he should have been kept in are asking the question “do you want fries with that” for their job instead of working in the MLB

10-15 years? Pirates fans are holding their breath knowing that he will get traded before free agency. I love baseball and hate MLB.

Pull him. Go for immaculate innings record. Much safer for such a young player

No question. He was at 99 pitches. It isn’t an immediate pitch count issue but it’s on the horizon in a way that suggests that he won’t finish the game at all. If it was the 9th, I’d be concerned he couldn’t get out in 11 pitches. In the 8th, there’s next to no chance unless the Brewers give up on a one run deficit.
Also, being pulled from a no hitter is much better feeling than getting pulled for a lost no hitter and giving out a dirty inning. I think it’s the right play all around. Ten less pitches, and I can maybe get behind leaving him, but I don’t want maybe the best pitcher of a generation throwing 110-115 pitches on a hot July day in a meaningless game for a long shot individual accomplishment.
It seems just as likely that he’d blow his arm off as he would complete it, with around 98% of the time the result would just be ‘and then there was a hit’. Good call.

I think it was 100% the right move to pull skenes. He’s making his 12th start of his rookie season, with a team potentially making a playoff run. He will have plenty of opportunities for a no hitter/perfect game down the road and he still isn’t quite adjusted to the full season work load so why push it

Pulling a rookie throwing a no hitter is just UNAMERICAN

You are right. Having him blow his arm and still lose the no hitter in the 8th inning. Then miss the next two years with Tommy John surgery would be the most AMERICAN thing ever.

What I would have done is actually put my own money on my bets I'm recommending instead of doing what you do. You haven't won a parlay since May and what you're doing is unethical. End your partnership with FanDuel if you're not gonna actually bet what you recommend

Yep, totally agree--It certainly doesn't seem possible for someone to throw 7 no hitters. Since no one in history has more than 4 other than him...and pitchers are not going nearly as deep in games as they used to.
