  • Today is a bit of a different video as we are shining a light on a very inspiring not-for-profit project that is run by a group of boaters in London. Compost toilets are becoming increasingly popular amongst boaters but the means to effectively compost the waste aren't particularly accessible.
Circular Revolution offer a pick up subscription service where they collect your dry material from your boat in one of their discreet caddies and leave you a clean, sanitised fresh caddy either bi-weekly or monthly. They then turn the waste into compost and hope in the future to even be turning it into biogas for boaters to use!
They are at a point where they do need some help & support and I was so inspired by what they were doing I wanted to create a video to help raise awareness of their amazing project.
Please get in touch with them if you want to help or support in any way:

Circular Revolution Co-Op CIC’s dream is to revolutionize waterless and wasteless circular sanitation systems for communities everywhere.
They are shaping and showcasing an innovative circular sanitation service model through a community centered approach, as an incredible opportunity to create social, environmental and cultural value.
Their mission is to provide a safe, convenient and sustainable toilet collection service for London boaters and beyond.
They offer an innovative, zero-waste, toilet collection service for London boaters who use separating (aka compost) toilets and they are working hard to find ways for their model to be put into action in other parts of the country.

These people are basically night soil collectors. What used to be an essential job in keeping London clean and healthy. Good to see entrepreneurs fulfilling a need.

Calling all entrepeneurs living near a canal...this is a perfect business opportunity with eco friendly roots!! Considering humans are the cause of so much damage it is fantastic to see someone taking the initiative and working so hard to uphold the sustainability of our planet with the sh*t we leave behind 👏🏻 All hail the ultimate recyclers 😊

We live off grid and use a compost toilet but in Ontario , Canada human , compost waste has by law to be left for 2 yrs to breakdown. This is to make sure that the breakdown cycle is complete and safe to use to plough back into ground. Anything less than 2 yrs can cause issues fir example if it was used for farming and growth of food and then selling to the public.

I'm surprised the Canal and River Trust don't get on board with this. Sustainability and perfect recycling!

Good for the planet and less use of water. I can see this being used in most homes when an infrastructure is put in place, fabulous well done and good luck

    WOW ~ How interesting.
A subject as I'd never even thought of, composting loos on-board..
Far better/er than blu/elsan chemical cassettes etc :-)
A proper eye opener for sure :-)

Excellent 🎉 idea. Anything to restore the ph balance in that canal water, I think it's too much K - Phosphorus in the water. It's present in many areas of the canal system, urban and rural. Like to see them expand all over. Thanks for presenting Circular Révolution.

Love your videos :) This is a great environmentally friendly plan, I want to live on a boat one day so i'm interested in finding out more. I'm not sure what the CRT guidelines are for composting toilets but what do most boaters currently do to dispose of the waste from their compost loo without this service?

They used to call this dust bin collection, and they used the sh^t and the pee was very much in demand for plant fertiliser and used in dyeing leather. And most is now just a toxic waste 😢.

I think household waste is taken care of isn't it?
Many many years ago, early 80s, I drive for a company that took treated sewage, that is, sewage from sediment ponds, in a tanker, to syon park where the waste was dried and put into the beds at syon park, and bagged for sale as I recall.
