That's my handy work as an apprentice at Platts yard, I remember making the frames for the 24 and working on the 1st 24 Set into the Tenon of the stern post to Keel will be a shilling coin relating to the year the keel was layed That's me standing at the mast
I'm not a sailor, and wouldn't know a beam from a bream! but watching this channel makes me feel so comfortable with the sea and i really am happy for these people who have found not just a hobby but as the owner Nick said has found a "charmed life". Thanks "My Classic Boat " we need more ....More!!!!!
Really love this channel!!! Love the sense of the owners you interview!!! As a 18 feet sailboat owner I hate how nowadays people think that if you sail with less than 40 feet ship you're in trouble. Congratulations Nick and Christobel, you have a very nice classic!!!
Dick you just keep giving us these great videos with history, interviews with intresting people and best of all sailing and lovley boats. Thanks. Beautiful boat in nice condition hats of to the owners they must put a lot of hard work in.
A beautiful boat and the fibreglass ones that came shortly after it almost copied it I would say. It's very much like the trident 24 in shape don't you think. The wife is thinking along my lines. Once I'm too old too pull sheets it's going to have to be a diesel motorboat. Assuming diesels are still alowed then lol
How old has a sail boat got to be to be a classic. I bought my first sail boat a 1964 international folkboat. She was built in south of England gravesend made out of fibreglass 3 &half ton clinker. Great first sailing boat
This is how the Committee of the BCYC class classics for their membership. The criteria for membership include: Hull material of wood, steel or iron Design date of 1970 or before A minimum overhang rule Usually the build date is before 1970 but some wooden yachts have been accepted which have been built after this date, where the design date criterion has not been breached. The club is named the British Classic Yacht Club, and many of the boats were built by the great British boatyards, but being built in Britain or designed by a Briton, have never been criteria for membership. The definition of a Classic Yacht is subjective but includes many of the most beautiful boats still sailing; some of which have great racing records whilst others represent design milestones in the development of sailing yachts. As for the Folkboat, the owners of all those old wooded ones know they are classics. Hope that helps
Depends which jurisdiction you are in. For example Cowes Classic week has very different criteria from Antigua Classic week. Not all definitions are to do with age, some are more concerned with hull and keel form or if they are keeping with the 'spirit' of some of the more traditional designs. Also some jurisdictions will allow old GRP designs as well.
Lovely boat, well put together video and a charming couple.
I owned a very similar boat. Lived on it for 15 years. The best part of my life.

lovely boat, charming people, an excellent cocktail.
A great all round family cruiser of it's time. Ideal for east coast too.
What an absolutely lovely story of lovely lives, lovely adventures and a lovely sailboat. Thank you so much.

It's rare for boats that size to leave the marina but I know what you mean. Reading reviews in yachting mags 25ft is considered a small boat nowadays.
Of all my subscriptions on YT, this is my favourite.

amazing that this thing was made in the same year as the saturn 5 rocket when i first saw it i thought it was a 1920's or 30's boat
Well thought out lovely cosy boat thank you and will be getting one of your books all the best buzz #buzzofftoxic
A great video of a lovely boat.
What a charming little boat, and couple too. Cheers.
Interesting boat. Interesting compromise. Looks very roomy for LOA, yet a very good sailor.
Very practical looking boat.

Outstanding!
Nice couple
'bout time you shuffled yourself off your pillow ! And behold you have retained your talent !
Glad the west coast is awake
Shame you use a fish eye lens. The lines of the boat is it’s beauty not to be distorted
Very beautiful Indeed. What about the average price of a vessel of this kind second hand?
Between five and eight thousand pounds depending on condition and fit out.
George, it’s not the purchase price that’s relevant! The mooring, and maintenance costs are the factor in boat ownership!
A proper boat for proper people
HOW LONG IS YOUR BOAT, THANKS
Awesome sailing adventures ! Do Y'all soSAILize ? Havent seen any of yr videos there !
Alan platt has never designed a boat. Both 21 and 24 was designed by Laurie Harbottell.
