Learned this once years ago (for a Liberty) but never could remember or find it online. Just worked for my Commander as well. Thank you so much for sharing this simple sanity saver!

One additional note.... I tried this several times on my 2016 before realizing that when turning my power off I also had to open my door. The power doesn't shut off completely until you do. If your doors are off or open to begin with this may not apply.

I have a 2015 JK two-door Rubicon I have to turn it to the on position not the accessory position in order to clear the code otherwise it's the same

It’s scary sometimes how closely our projects sync up (unintentionally) I changed the oil in my JK YESTERDAY and did this exact thing! I did experience something funny though... today my Jeep threw 2 codes: P0521 and P1524. I looked them up and saw they were based on the oil and so I checked my oil level. WAY low. So low in fact my dipstick seemed dry. Now it’s not THAT unusual for a vehicle to take more than its suggested amount (I put in 5 quarts) so I added a quart and checked the oil again. Still dry. Added a second quart. Still dry. Ran the engine for a moment, checked the dipstick and it had oil on it. Wiped it, replaced it, still dry. How on EARTH could I have 7 quarts of oil in there (original 5 plus two extra) and still not register on the dipstick? Makes me nervous something is horribly wrong. (And no, there’s no oil puddle underneath my Jeep because I forgot to close the oil drain)

The 3.8L jeep takes 6 quarts I believe, so you only put in one extra quart really.

Beware! More than 1/2 quart over can cause it to froth with air. Don’t drive if it looks frothy. Better a little low than too much.

Hey Dale, I appreciate all of the great videos you have posted thus far. Especially the transfer case swap. I just recently swapped out my 249 for a 231 and it was smooth (definitely not as smooth as your swap but its complete). I bought the 1996 ZJ from my friends parents (for $500) and it made this whirring sound when the RPMs reach over 3k. The noise seemed to be coming from the TC so I figured it was a bad VC but that was not the case. After the swap the noise is still present. I confirmed it is not the drive shafts nor the differentials. Any ideas on what could be causing this sound? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. th-cam.com/video/VCm2o0nbEww/w-d-xo.html
