Lahav Shani plays & conducts Prokofiev Piano Concerto No. 3 | Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra

Prokofiev's Third Piano Concerto is one of Lahav Shani's great favourites: ‘Colourful, virtuoso and full of lyricism - it’s one of the most popular concertos in the repertoire, and certainly one of the most demanding’.
The latter remark is no exaggeration: it is a huge task for soloist, conductor and orchestra alike. That Lahav Shani conducts this performance from the piano is something you have to see to believe. Nothing less than extraordinary.

I knew lahav is a crazy good conductor, but I didn't know he was SUCH a good pianist!

Rotterdam Philharmonic is fortunate to have such a virtuoso conductor. He has the qualities of Leonard Bernstein, both musical and as a speaker and explainer, but without the international celebrity that would be unhelpful to a serious musician like Lahav Shani. I have never seen a dual performance of the Prokofiev 3rd Concerto like this. It's a virtuoso pianistic journey, and he conducts the orchestra as well. Every nuance is expressed with a flow of the hand. Bravo!

Dimitri Mitropoulos used to play this 3rd Prokofiev piano concerto, conducting from the piano, in the early 20th century.
