I’ve been playing on and off for six years and Im like high intermediate maybe advanced. I wish I was better than I am. Sometimes Dama just comes natural to people. I haven’t had any friends that play. The only motivation I have is pretty much my own personal drive to get better. Just try to find some friends or someone you know to get better with.
Exactly the same for me! Probably quit like 8 times by now and now I'm thinking about starting again xD I have friends who played for some time but the hardest trick they can land is like a lighthouse xD

Oh man, I got my first Kendama 16 years ago, if only I practiced moshikomu more... Haha, back then there were 2 websites with tricks listed, and I remember watching videos of cutting edge Japanese players stacking multiple tamas and doing birds, like that's what was impressive at the time. When it blew up in here is when I lost interest, it's super impressive but I don't see the soul of the original toy, I miss the restraint of the Japanese aesthetic that I was immersed in. Certainly, modern kendamas as very different, I remember using a sweets for the first time a few years ago and was blown away at how easy it was to land lunars.
Anyway, in reflection, it's wonderful they toy is being used by so many to express themselves! I'm over here still trying to master the beauty of the basic moves.
