    I was reading "Gone With The Wind" by Margaret Mitchell, I stopped during Ramadan & I intend to continue reading it quite soon, it's an outstanding work 👏 its movie is one of the great classics yet the novel is even greater 👌

    The Lord of the Rings! :) My teenage kids read it first, and they spoke so enthusiastically about it, that, after a couple of years of resisting, I finally gave in and started to read Tolkien too. I must say, I consider this one of my best decisions in the last few months. :)

    I am an incorrigible Harry Potter fan and I read through all seven books again (in German, to practice my German). What pops into my mind besides that, is a novel from the Swedish author Fredrik Backman: My grandmother sends her regards and apologies. It's a very interesting novel, bittersweet, mixing humour and great life truths about serious issues... I recommend it to everyone. Besides, I have a religious book, a daily verse from the Bible and the writers accompanying thoughts: Charles Haddon Spurgeon: Faith's checkbook. This book was a gift from my father many years ago, and I treasure it, it has often given me comfort in times of trouble.

    Lockdown means more time to read but for me it is also less motivation to read. Not going out, not seeing friends, not having origins activities put energy to its minimum and how could I get my self to read a book?

    • @chrysgnt4369
      @chrysgnt4369 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is why, I would go out for a walk every day - after filling in a special form asking permission to go out, under category "Physical exercise"! I would put my earphones on and listen to music while I was walking. I would look at the sky because it is terrible to be confined to the four walls of a house 24/7. I also did exercise at home (there are plenty of relevant videos on line). This improved my fitness and most importantly my mood. I totally understand what you write in your comment and that's why I tried to do the things I've just mentioned to you.

    Living in the States, I just LOVE to hear that British accent :-). As for books, I reread some Maeve Binchys and Philippa Gregorys as well as Jane Austen. I also discovered a mystery series by Laura Childs centering around a tea shop in Charleston, South Carolina. My 11-year-old likes the Malory Towers series by Enid Blyton that I enjoyed myself as a child in Germany.

    Very nice episode with a summer touch :D
    I've noticed that the lady says "I prefer to read a book" while the guy says "I prefer reading that kind of thing than novels". These double structures always create confusion for foreign language learners... Is there really a difference in these specific examples? Thank you!

    • @EasyEnglishVideos
      @EasyEnglishVideos  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hmm... good question, definitely depends what you're into. My favourite book is Jaws (it's my fave movie) by Peter Benchley, it's descriptions make it just as terrifying as the movie in my opinion. But I'm sure others can give you better recommendations :)

      Maybe a book that you have already read in your native language? Or when you are at the very beginning, children’s books are a good choice, because they are easy written with simple words.

    • @june.w.1288

      There are graded readers books
      That is, they have books with simplyfied language for learners at different stages of language acquisition. First, check your level, then pick a book that interests you. Interest and motivation are key factors at learning anything. There are different platforms that offer you graded books, like Black cat graded readers and Cambridge English reader's books.
