Ken supiese y entendiese (Ehad mi yodea)

One of the most common Passover piyyutim which first appeared in the Passover Haggadah from Prague at the end of the 16th century, but in recent years an ancient Oriental version has been discovered in the Cairo Genizah and this version was probably the basis for the familiar Western version. The meaning of the numbers is a theme that has preoccupied humanity since the dawn of time and indeed there are also many variations in European folk songs. In Judaism, numbers have many meanings. In the piyyut the numbers sung in ascending and descending principles of thought and at their center is the belief that everything begins in one and ends in one. It is interesting to note that each move ends with the repetitive hymn (after the words "One is the Creator"): “ Blessed be He and blessed be His name."
