- In today's video, I go on an unforgettable journey to Takabonerate, the 3rd largest atoll in the world, To get to this remote Island in South Sulawesi, I go on a long boat trip with my friend, Victoria from Vietnam. On this island-hopping adventure we visit both Jinato Island and Tarupa Island where the crystal-clear turquoise waters surrounds the islands. The highlight of this trip is Tinabo Island, where we swim with hundreds of baby sharks. We also explore the local culture and the struggles of living on these remotes islands. it's a bit more primitive than we thought..
Taka Bonerate becomes more than just a place on the map; it becomes a chapter in the story of my Sulawesi island trip.
In the next episode, I continue the journey to Lake Tempe, where I spend 24 hours, alone, in a floating lake house. (Spoiler.. the timing wasn't great.. weather wise!)

saya yang tetanggaan juga gk pernah tau malahan 😅🤣 tapi normal sih kalo belum di buka pariwisata, kayak di pulau sempu malang kan sempat di tutup karena wisatanya ninggalin sampah, gk tau ya skrg udah di buka to masih di tutup, salah satu spot terbaik buat snorkling di danau air asin, apalagi banyak satwa-satwa yang terancam punah jadi kalo gk di buka umum itu lebih baik, jng semuanya di buka umum, kasian satwa nya kayak hiu sirip hitam, bisa jadi buruan nanti
Sebenarnya ini adalah cara promosi pariwisata sesungguhnya. Mentri pariwisata dan jajarannya harus memberi sedikit kemudahan untuk kris yg sudah mengangkat atau memperkenalkan Indonesia kepada dunia ❤

We had a fun dive at Takabonerate, in Rajuni Island, in the year of 2000 (24 yrs long ago), and it was so great... but because one of our team members was diagnosed to have a deco symptom, so instead of staying longer, we had to get back rushly to Makassar to have the hyperbaric treatment at the Wahidin hospital, for all of us... And few years later, I made a visit again with RCTI (the national tv) team in 2003 or so, but not for diving, only for interviewing some people in Jinato Island... Since then, I've been trying to go there again with no luck, until I see your great video, memorizing back to old time.... thank you Kris, what a great video....

This is a place where the landscapes are so picturesque, they make postcards question their career choices! I haven't heard of this place in Indonesia and I realized, this is indeed looks incredible experience. Hopefully, my travel dart would land in this place!

My husband and I had been eyeing it because we like more remote locations, but this is too remote still. Diving with no oxygen at such a remote location is a total no-go, and I'm glad you pointed that out. Many would have skipped that important detail.
But that doesn't change the fact that you delivered yet another amazing video. I am hopeful that Takabonerate will slowely become more available for tourism ❤

it is great having all those beautiful places in a screen, thank you and for those who already supported for your journey. Going to remote places like these would cost much much more, not many people could afford it, not only money but also time. I have an explorer friend who just visited south sulawesi few weeks ago, but he does not a fortune like you being supported by local tourism going to remote place. BUT there is always a good thing rite? less tourists will preserve nature longer...

Hi Chris, I will recommend you once u get to Central Sulawesi, you must visit Togian, because the corals and underwater is the best there. You can reach out there from Ampana in Central Sulawesi and takes some days to explore Togian.

Jadi menurutku ini semacam sia-sia.
Seharusnya mereka memberikan kepercayaan bagi orang yang ingin menikmati pemandang alam, atau sebuah kegiatan menyelam, dengan begitu saya yakin orang-orang bisa meng-eksplore indonesia dengan nyaman.
Dan yang paling penting Alam-nya juga jangan dirusak, seperti jangan buang sampah sembarangan.
Dan lagi Seharusnya mereka juga melestarikan atau mem-budidayakan Ikan-ikan yang di tangkap, agar populasinya tidak terancam..

Ouch I think it's kind of a miss with the spots. Back then when I visit Takabonerate, I spend a night in Tinabo and another night in another Island (bigger but not the one you show us here) and almost all of the spots i visited backthen were so beautiful with lots of healthy corals and bunch of marine lives. Lots of giant clams, fishes, stingray, corals, octopus etc. even just around the tinabo island. I did a snorkeling though, not a scuba diving, so idk if it's one of the things that make a difference with your. What a bummer!

I went there in 2011. And I stayed at Tinabo Island also. It had no villas back then, and fish bombing still happening. Hope the condition already better now. Because like you've said, it has a lot of potentials.
