I wonder if that was painful to Duval at that time. He looked like his back was stiff as he picked up his tee. David is my favorite golfer of all time. Tiger is up there too!
Monty's face at 5:05.... Wow. He could often be very softly spoken and considered in interviews but he was infamous for his irritability with fans and ferocious temper should things go wrong.
These are the best players in the world. It's a wonder those hotel windows are all intact. It is kinda interesting how you could theoretically hit to the OTHER fairway, but you get punished for being a coward by having a really crappy angle, dealing directly with The Bunker in your line.
One of those holes where you should play your second shot first - an iron down to the corner so you can see the hole, then let it rip with a fairway wood! Take your rifle if you're in that rough - that's leopard country, not TIGER country - cause he didn't like it in there!
@@dart1806 I care, and that’s all I care about. That video was cherry picked.I’ve seen another video that featured great drives on 17. I’m just pointing out that video was bull shit. Anyway…what have you ever done in golf? I’ve got a record that few Lilly whites could ever dream about…7 club Championships at 5 clubs, 3 District Championships in 4 years and 1 VGL championship…that’s 11 majors
The golf course was there before the hotel. The hotel was originally the site of railway sidings for the railway line which ran from Leuchars to St Andrews. That was built in the mid 19th century. The course has been there since the 15th Century, it's over 600 years old. You can't blame the golf course!
Really, a tee shot over buildings. Hotels were built so close to a golf course, who's bright idea was that. I've been to the Old Course and it's just old and historic, not the nicest golf course.
@Ross Irving I'm specifically talking about the 17th on The Old Course. It's a terrible Open venue and just can't create the drama of the other venues. When was the last Open when a player lost a lead on 17?
@Ross Irving History means nothing on relation to providing entertainment. You wouldn't hold the FA Cup final at Goodison or Turf Moor just because it has history, it wouldn't be a good venue, same as The Old Course. I don't mind it the same roya as all the others z but every five years is a piss take for such a dull course and it gets in the way of my weekend golf by disrupting all golf at St Andrews
We know your opinions on the Road Hole, S Anderson, but the facts speak for themselves. An official stroke average of over 4.8 in the opening round in 2015. Numerous listicles from sports and golf publications ranking it alongside the likes of Carnoustie's 18th or the 12th at Augusta. And actually it has claimed the chances of several golfers in the past - McIlroy at the Dunhill in 2014, Notah Begay in the opening round in 2000, Watson at the 1984 Open, Nakajima in 1978... Seve famously said that, to him, it was a par 5 and "the hardest hole in the world" - when he won in 1984 he bogied just five of the 72 holes played; three of them were the 17th. Yes you've played it hundreds of times as a local. But the international pros haven't - and psychology is everything to them. It gets under their skin. Honestly you sound like some bitter movie critic scoffing at why everyone keeps going on about how incredible this Tom Cruise bloke is...
Kudos to the cameraman who managed to keep track of Mickelson's ball as it pinballed around the hotel's façade!
No excuse for top professional golfer to hit the ball that bad.
The elevator music in the background is hilarious!
It's not unusual for Tiger to miss the fairways, but some of his recovery shots are just magical.
Loved the music on this video. Found it very fitting :)
can someone help me with what Duval's line was there at the very end? second fairway?
I’m wondering how much those hotel rooms go for.
Depends on the week. Stayed there in June this year. Not cheap.

It would be nice if you put the year on the shot.
Year 2000.
That road hole hotel must cop a barrage of balls each year..🤣
The music ❤️
I've played there. Caddy handed me an iron and told me to hit it left of the wall. Did. Took my 5 and was happy about it.
They should play a sad song on the bagpipes for this video.

polycarbonate windows, not glass
@@amartyaadukoorie2804 Yep I've tested them quite a few times!
Pink Panther theme would have been better. Nice vid nonetheless.
seems-heavy!
What makes this hole hard is the players getting in there own heads and shaking the tee shot making it impossible to recover
'Their'.

Difficult tee shot, but only if you get greedy
Nothing says tradition and the birth place of golf like hitting a blind shot over a corner of a hotel.
Aim further left then 😂
I’ve played it twice…thought it was easy, you get such a good line.
All these pros must be terrible then
@@joefranklin129 no, those drives were cherry picked. It’s no a difficult drive, its the second shot that’s hard. That bunker is so well placed.
No body cares because you are not on tour

Never made a par myself... second shot impossible...long or short...
Made par once, but the pin was in a nice position.
If I wanted to watch people miss fairways and hit balls OB, I'd film myself.
Montgomery is an appalling golfer such a horrible, arrogant person too..glad he never won a major
Why not put a shopping mall on the left side of the fairway to balance things out. Ridiculous hole.
