If you have a 94-07 Powerstroke you need to see THIS! Clogged Fuel pickup

2000 Ford Excursion 7.3 4x4 Fuel pickup and strainer replacement.
The fuel pickup foot had deteriorated and fallen off, this style of pickup screen is in the 94-07 F-Series and Excursions. If you are having trouble with rough idle or 1/4 tank running out of fuel this may be the source of your problems. Always check your fuel pump on the frame rail and engine compartment fuel filter right on the top of the motor. I got these parts from the local dealership for about 100 bucks, but they can be found online for a little bit cheaper.

I completely removed all that plastic nonsense inside the tank from Ford, added a piece of stainless fuel line to extend the pickup line to about an inch from the bottom of the tank and installed a good quality aluminum body stainless steel filter on the frame rail before the fuel pump. Now it's simple easy to check and clean my tank filter without having to drop the tank.

I considered doing the same thing, and with the pump being on the frame rail I don’t know why ford didn’t put a canister filter right before the pump for easy maintenance. Over engineered pickup and screen assembly for sure.
