I took Mr Toohey's Accuplacer Math Crash Course and it was awesome. I passed all three sections and all due to how Mr Toohey teaches the math. He makes it so simple that you feel confident when doing the math problems. His method for most Algebra questions is so simple and should be part of the curriculum in schools. Even when you have to use algebra his teaching methods are supportive and easy to understand. Anyone needing some extra support for any math should consider his teachings as you won't be disappointed. I highly recommend his methods! Cheers! 😊

@@MichaelToohey It’s no problem at all , teachers like you need to be appreciated more ! Your videos are very helpful. My weakest point in math is Geometry, do you have any tips or videos I can watch to help me prepare for that section on my test tomorrow ?
I go over a lot of the geometry questions on the Accuplacer in the full version of the course… the best advice I can give you is to think in concrete terms and plug in values in place of the variables… you can figure a lot out using basic logic once you start dealing with values!
Professor Michael Toohey, thank you for a solid explanation and analysis of the Accuplacer Math Prep. All the problems are fairly simple to follow and understand from start to finish. This is an error free video/lecture on TH-cam TV.

Thank you!! I think that’s why these series are helping so many people… if the student I’m working with has questions or is getting tripped up somewhere, there is a good chance people watching the videos are having the same issues! Thanks for reaching out!
Great question! The test must be proctored in a secure environment (at an approved testing center or with an online proctor)… you can register for individual sections of the test, or for all of them, depending on the requirements of the school or program you are applying for…
wow man i thought i was done for i never understood math and i have to take a math test since i never took it in hs to apply for college this stuff helps so much
Great question! That’s exactly why you have to test ALL the answer choices, and often multiple points… if you plug in (2,16), you get Two true statements in two different answer choices… so how do you determine which one is correct? Plug in another set of values from the graph! The right answer will give you a true statement for ALL the values in the graph, and the wrong answer won’t! Make sense?
There’s a question on the accauplcer test about how many tiles you need, tiles are 6 inches and the wall length is 8 ft. Can you help me with this this is all I remember
If the wall is 8 ft by 8 feet then you could fit 16 of the tiles going up/down and 16 going left/right… draw a picture of the situation described, and you could literal count! Or when you realize you have 16 tiles up/down and 16 side/side you could multiply 16x16 to get you the answer: 256. Make sense?
Good question! When we started plugging in values into the answer choices, we started with the point (1, 8), where x=1 and y=8… anything to the power of 1 is itself, so if x=1 the exponent doesn’t change the value of the number being raised to the power of 1… when we plugged in the next set of values (2,16), that’s when we had to square the number, but at that point we already eliminated answer choice A and B so we only had to plug into C and D.
Don’t be fooled by the low production quality : ) The questions (and solutions) are up-to-date for the latest version of the Accuplacer… let me know if you have any questions!
Thanks for reaching out, Max! Right now, the only way to access the rules document is to get to full version of the course! Just click the link in the description or go to accuplacermath.net to get access!
Hopefully u reas this but im stuck on the last question because we went from plugging in 1,8 and eliminated A and B then we go to 2,16 and eliminate C and im confused as to how we got to answer D
For answer choice D, you know that when x is 3 you need to get 32 for y… look at the graph! The point (3, 32) is on the graph of the function! Only answer choice D gives you 32 for y when x is 3.
Did you purchase the full course? You should have received the link in a notification email when you purchased the course (though it may have gone to your “junk folder depending on your email security settings)… in any case, email me and I’ll get you access… Thanks!
@user-pz2vi8kp9b Ah! Good question! Answer choice b works for some of the points on the graph, like (2,16), but not ALL the points… for example, the point (0,4) is on the graph of the function, but that doesn’t work with answer choice b… Answer choice d on the other hand, works for ALL of the points on the graph. Test them yourself - plug them all into the question for x and y, and you’ll get a true statement for all of them. You can’t say that about any other answer choice. Make sense?
Can someone explain the first answer for me? i understard how he got the answer, but i dont understand why he used 1 as x and not any other number? Is x always 1 in these questions?
Thanks for reaching out!! You can plug in any number for x and follow the same process… 1s and 0s just make the arithmetic easier (in general) so I like starting with smaller values like those…
@Mike21908 other numbers can work, but bigger numbers will generally make the arithmetic more complicated. That’s why I like to start with 1’s and 0’s… You can always increase the size of the number if you need to!
I’m sorry to hear you are having trouble logging in! @@MichaelToohey thank you I got it!! I’ve been studying your videos for a while now. I am taking the accuplacer Tuesday to get into the nursing program.
@@MichaelToohey I have a question. I went through the sections and when I got to say 6 it says only view if you have taken trigonometry and are trying to place out of college algebra. I am taking the test for Nursing program and I need a 250 to get accepted. Should I study part 6 or no? I was trying to figure out how the scoring works 😭 if you aren’t sure that’s okay- thanks
Unfortunately, that’s not an option… Sorry! But “Day 6” of the full course is devoted exclusively to the Advanced Algebra and Function section… let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!
You could survive by watching just Day 6, but I’d recommend watching days 3 and 4 as well where I emphasize the “plugging in Values” strategy in more depth. That will be very helpful for the Advanced Algebra and functions section. I also introduce functions in Day 4.
No problem!! You clearly know how to factor, so if you want to approach a question like this one from an operational perspective, feel free to do so! Plugging in values also works here…
I totally understand how you feel… I’m not sure how similar the Teas test is to the Accuplacer or TSI, but watch my videos and see if they help! Math is math…. Also, check out my video titled “Algebra Review: Solving Equations”… I think you’ll find it very helpful
Yeah, no, question 19 is weird 28:40 in video..... 2,16 works for answer B too. B is y = 4^x. If use coordinates 2,16........ 16 = 4^2..... 16=16..... B is the answer too... you crossed out B as a wrong answer....
Thanks for reaching out! You’re right, B gives you a true statement for ONE of the sets of values, but the right answer has to give you a true statement for ALL of the (x,y) values in the graph… the only answer choice that does so is answer choice D… make sense?
If you’re taking the Accuplacer, start with my “Accuplacer Crash Course - Day 1 (Part 1)” video! I start with the most basic concepts and slowly build up the level of difficulty… You can do do this!!
@@MichaelToohey thanks but I don’t need the full version of the course. I just need to take this test to prove I can take Calculus 1 because I don’t want to transfer my AP credits.

for the last question #19 when plugging in the points answer choice c&d were squared but A&B were not why is this ?
Good question! When we started plugging in values into the answer choices, we started with the point (1, 8), where x=1 and y=8… anything to the power of 1 is itself, so if x=1 the exponent doesn’t change the value of the number being raised to the power of 1… when we plugged in the next set of values (2,16), that’s when we had to square the number, but at that point we already eliminated answer choice A and B so we only had to plug into C and D.
Make sense?
It says it was posted a year ago, but this is giving 2000's for me
Don’t be fooled by the low production quality : ) The questions (and solutions) are up-to-date for the latest version of the Accuplacer… let me know if you have any questions!
Could you please link your rules for accuplacer google doc please?
Thanks for reaching out, Max! Right now, the only way to access the rules document is to get to full version of the course! Just click the link in the description or go to accuplacermath.net to get access!
Thank you, this helped me.
I’m happy to help!
Hopefully u reas this but im stuck on the last question because we went from plugging in 1,8 and eliminated A and B then we go to 2,16 and eliminate C and im confused as to how we got to answer D
Thanks for reaching out!! Well, if A and B don’t work, and C doesn’t work, doesn’t it have to be D?
For answer choice D, you know that when x is 3 you need to get 32 for y… look at the graph! The point (3, 32) is on the graph of the function! Only answer choice D gives you 32 for y when x is 3.
Where is the link????!!!!
Did you purchase the full course? If so, you should have received a confirmation email with the link you need to access the course (although it can sometimes go to your “junk” folder depending on your email filter settings)… if you can’t find the email, don’t worry! Just shoot me an email at tooheycollegeprep@gmail.com and I’ll send you the link you need myself : )
I bought the $49 course but there is no link in your page to log in to access the course. where do I log in at?
No problem! Shoot me an email at tooheycollegeprep@gmail.com and I’ll send you the link you need! You should have received the link in a notification email when you purchased the course (though it may have gone to your “junk folder depending on your email security settings)… in any case, email me and I’ll get you access… Thanks!
Thanks sir I really appreciate it You really helping everyone 🇵🇰
Thank you for reaching out!! I’m happy to help!!
sir why don't we choose option b for (2,16 ) xy plane . why only choosing d option
Thanks for reaching out!! I’ll be happy to explain… Which question are you referring to?
sir , question 19 graph one @@MichaelToohey
@user-pz2vi8kp9b Ah! Good question! Answer choice b works for some of the points on the graph, like (2,16), but not ALL the points… for example, the point (0,4) is on the graph of the function, but that doesn’t work with answer choice b…
Answer choice d on the other hand, works for ALL of the points on the graph. Test them yourself - plug them all into the question for x and y, and you’ll get a true statement for all of them. You can’t say that about any other answer choice.
Make sense?
oh right got it now thank you sir for the guidances,@@MichaelToohey
plug and play thank u
I’m
Happy to help!
Can someone explain the first answer for me? i understard how he got the answer, but i dont understand why he used 1 as x and not any other number? Is x always 1 in these questions?
Thanks for reaching out!! You can plug in any number for x and follow the same process… 1s and 0s just make the arithmetic easier (in general) so I like starting with smaller values like those…
Make sense?
@@MichaelToohey okay so I could replace x with 3 and come to the same conclusion, just in a more complicated way is that correct?
@Mike21908 other numbers can work, but bigger numbers will generally make the arithmetic more complicated. That’s why I like to start with 1’s and 0’s… You can always increase the size of the number if you need to!
@@MichaelToohey thanks for the help!
I bought the course, but i can’t find the email with the login instructions.
I’m sorry to hear you are having trouble logging in! You should have received an email with the link you need to log in (although it may have gone to your “junk” folder depending on your email settings)… if you can’t find the email, don’t worry! Just shoot me an email at tooheycollegeprep@gmail.com and I’ll send you the link you need myself!
Is this similar to the 9th grade shsat advanced algebra?
Oh and if yes could u make a video on 9th grade shsat and what to study?
Thanks for reaching out! I’m not very familiar with the SHSAT, so it’s hard for me to say….
@@MichaelToohey oh so the shsat is a specialized high school test that New York kids take to get into specialized high schools, there’s a total of 114 questions with 20 not count and only 180 mins of time for you to take the test. It has 2 sections, english and math. For the 9th grade one though you get more complex reading and math I just don’t know what to really study for but I was searching online it says that it includes advanced algebra. I thought u would know something about the test and what to study lol.
Similar to the sat but easier.
No problem! I suspect that any study of my Math test prep videos will be helpful, including the video you’re commenting on… I also have prep videos for the SAT and ACT Math sections you may want to check out…
I paid for the full version and I am not able to get back. I didn't receive an email.
No problem! You may have to check your “junk” folder depending on your email settings… if you can’t find the email, don’t worry! Shoot me an email at tooheycollegeprep@gmail.com and I’ll send you the link you need.
Found your email and just sent you the link you need : )
I score 928 on my TSI should I give it another try? 😭😭😭
Thanks for reaching out! Have you done any serious prep for the test yet?
@@MichaelToohey Can you give me the course as I don't have enough resources to buy and I have just 2 days to prepare?
Hi, I purchased the crash course a couple days ago how can I access it again because I never got a confirmation email
No problem! I’ll be happy to help!
You may have to check your “junk” folder (depending on your email security settings), but I can also send you the link directly…
What’s your email address?
Thank youuuu
I’m happy to help!! Let me know if you have any questions!!
I have been trying to purchase the Accuplacer services that you offer. When I try to purchase it gives me an error message. What should I do? Thanks.
I’m sorry to hear you’re having trouble accessing the course! Have you tried purchasing on a different device, or using a different card?
@@MichaelToohey I will try to use the computer instead of my phone and see if this helps! Thanks.
I just tried again and it worked. Thanks so much!!
Great! Glad you were able to get access!!
Hi there Micheal my name is Mohamed and i am going to buy your course. I attend Minneapolis community technical college and wanted to get a placement into math 1110. It’s advanced algebra. @@MichaelToohey thank you I got it!! I’ve been studying your videos for a while now. I am taking the accuplacer Tuesday to get into the nursing program.
@alyssafeger8335 Best of luck!! Praying for your success on your upcoming exam!!
@@MichaelToohey thank you!! I’ll be back with an update 🙏🏽💕
Thank you so Much
I’m so happy to help! Let me know if you have any questions!
These are helpful
Thank you, Nick! I’m happy to help!!!
Well, it depends what the requirements are for the school/program you are applying for… in most cases, a passing score is closer to 250 or above…
Can you purchase a crash course for the advanced algebra test only?
Unfortunately, that’s not an option… Sorry! But “Day 6” of the full course is devoted exclusively to the Advanced Algebra and Function section… let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!
thank you. Is it necessary to watch the other days if I am only taking the advanced algebra accuplacer?
You’re not taking the arithmetic or the quantitative reasoning, algebra and statistics section at all?
No. Just the advanced algebra and functions section
You could survive by watching just Day 6, but I’d recommend watching days 3 and 4 as well where I emphasize the “plugging in Values” strategy in more depth. That will be very helpful for the Advanced Algebra and functions section. I also introduce functions in Day 4.
Something is odd about the 1st factoring question. (3x+2)(x-9) are factors of 3x^2-25x-18.
Yes, you’re right. But it’s not -25x in the question it’s +25x…
@@MichaelToohey Ops my bad. Thanks for pointing that out.
No problem!! You clearly know how to factor, so if you want to approach a question like this one from an operational perspective, feel free to do so! Plugging in values also works here…
Please add a paypal option for payment
i struggle with algebra and totally lost my confidence and now im preparing for TEAS Exam. i feel like i will suck at it
I totally understand how you feel… I’m not sure how similar the Teas test is to the Accuplacer or TSI, but watch my videos and see if they help! Math is math…. Also, check out my video titled “Algebra Review: Solving Equations”… I think you’ll find it very helpful
Also check out “Algebra Review: Combining Like Terms”
I’m the meantime I’ll be praying for your success on the test!
You’re right, B gives you a true statement for ONE of the sets of values, but the right answer has to give you a true statement for ALL of the (x,y) values in the graph… the only answer choice that does so is answer choice D… make sense?
the wall was 10 feet and that was not the answer.
Thanks for reaching out!
Which question are you referring to?
3+25-8 = 20??? Is not it
3 + 25 is 28, then 28 minus 8 is 20…
Is there another way you’re seeing it?
well ima fail why does none of this make sense
If you’re taking the Accuplacer, start with my “Accuplacer Crash Course - Day 1 (Part 1)” video! I start with the most basic concepts and slowly build up the level of difficulty… You can do do this!!
No logarithms
Thanks for reaching out! I cover logarithms in the full version of the course…
@@MichaelToohey thanks but I don’t need the full version of the course. I just need to take this test to prove I can take Calculus 1 because I don’t want to transfer my AP credits.
No problem! Best of luck on the test!!
(0,4)
Love your teaching style. Watched many if your videos, but i have to say this particular video was brutal to watch. She was NOT paying attention -- at all! She, her noisy back ground, and her giggling counterpart threw off my focus!😒😒
Thank you for the feedback! Always looking for ways to improve my videos, so I appreciate you reaching out : )
you are a genuis wtf
Ha! Definitely not a genius… just a guy who loves to teach : )
YOU ARE AMAZING. I FAILED MY FIRST ATTEMPT ON THE MATH TSI, WATCHED AND STUDIED WITH YOUR TSI AND ACCUPLACER COURSES, AND PASSED MY SECOND TIME!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
What is a good score for adv algebra i got a 253 but got place in elementry math if anyone knows
Great question! It depends on what the requirements for your school/program are… check with a school counselor to find out what the scoring requirements are to place into more advanced classes…
