I love Mrs. Caldwell!! She was my first grade teacher… we had lots of “snowball fights” with crumpled up papers when we needed to get some energy out and have some fun! I remember visiting with her while I was in highschool and we talked about a poetry magezine I was editing for the highschool, she asked for a copy of all of my poems to keep for herself! She’s such a kind and warm person, and a great neighborhood friend;)
I am one of Mrs. Caldwell’s granddaughters. Fresh out of high school, I spent my first semester of college living with her and attending classes at a little university satellite campus. All my classes were at night, so during the day I would go to her class as a volunteer and help her for a few hours. She let me design and present a lesson and activity to help teach her students the phases of the moon using Oreos, and the students loved it! That was one of the big, inspiring moments n my life. It helped me realize my own passion for teaching. As a kid, I somehow already knew that from my grandma teaching grade school and my mom teaching music, that somehow that would come down to me. I am now happily, proudly working on my Special Education degree, currently working as an aide in an elementary autism classroom with plans to become a teacher of the same once I get my license. Grandma is the most warm, loving, inspiring person I know. I only hope, as the third generation of public schoolteachers in my family, that I can be as impactful and good a teacher to my own students as she has been to hers.
You've it the jackpot with a grandma like that...doing animation with oreos!! Now that's something I know will just turn my class into a hyperactive tornado of kids lol
"All of this gets passed on." At that point in the video, she had no idea how true that is. Thinking about her impact on you and your impact on an entire community online is pretty inspiring.
I’m a fine arts teacher. I have always used my classroom to support academic classes. A few years ago, one of my 6th graders showed me a flip book inspired by your videos. That’s when I started watching you.
Instead of my teacher inspiring my first flipbook, YOU did andy, when i used to be terrible at arts and crafts, i stumbled onto your channel and i immediately grabed some sheets of paper and a light sorce with a pen. When i was done it looked so bad but i had fun and ive decided to make a new one to honor my old one, thank you andy, thank you for the inspiration ❤😊
This is absolutely amazing that you and your teacher have made so much of a bigger impact on each other than you would’ve ever imagined at that first lesson on flip books. This is what we need more of on TH-cam and the internet in general ❤
She reminds me of my grandmother with her soft voice and enthusiasm for her students. But she also reminds me of MY 6th grade teacher, Mrs. Mobley, who introduced me to art. She was a real-life Ms Frazier from The Magic School bus! I loved 6th grade so much, and seeing this video reminded of her. 🥰
Me too, I love her enthusiasm. Her warmth, enthusiasm and passion for teaching are more than likely what sparked Andy’s imagination. The fact that he got to share it with her all these years later is just awesome.
What an amazing video. As a fellow teacher I can only imagine the joy she must have felt at that visit. To know a lesson she taught literally changed your life and who knows how many others. What a gift ❤❤❤
This truly warmed my heart and made me feel all the emotions again of seeing my previous teachers after leaving their classes and telling them how much they inspired me on my journey in life. Thank you for sharing this very intimate and precious moment with us 😊😊😊
Thankyou for reminding me we are all teachers to the next generation. "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."
Mrs. Caldwell is my grandma! Fun Fact: She has 6-ish cats and she had to shut them in a bedroom to keep them from interrupting 😂 EDIT: Her cats names are Ziggy, Missy, Moss (Thomas), Mikey (Mycroft), and at the time of filming this there was also a tabby named Uncle Buddy but he’s since passed from old age and kidney problems.
I feel like I now know what Andy was like in 6th grade seeing the way he interacts with her. It’s definitely cool to see how this channel started, how far it has come and how it reaches people all over the world. Mind blowing to think of how any of our seemingly trivial actions might influence the world in the future. So I guess the lesson is, try to have fun and make people happy! You might just succeed!
How awesome. That was absolutely beautiful and such an affirmation of teaching. I wish I could find my 5th & 6th grade teacher (yes I had the same person for both grades). He was such a great teacher. He cared about children and did stuff to encourage learning. He didn't point me down my career path but he did reignite my love of learning and the desire to be a lifelong learner.
This is absolutely cool. So glad that you were able to show her, as all educators do not seem to get to see how they have touched those certain students.
Andy your a very nice and Christlike person. That was a very inspiring story. Keep doing good things and bringing us all such needed wholesome entertainment.
I recognize that pink dinosaur, the school, and the backside of the grocery store. Had my first job there too. I don't remember Mrs. Caldwell but my brother and sister might. I was a few years ahead of you. My daughter and I love watching your animations. It's always a treat when you post a new video.
Oh wow, here you are in Vernal! My kids have loved your videos and your flipbook kit. Recently my husband sat in on one of them and said, "Hey I know Andy, I grew up with him and his brother. (Michael Spackman.) And my kids totally geeked out. You could have been Spiderman or Luke Skywalker, and they wouldn't have been more excited. And then we find this one where you show our familiar scenes and they're over the moon. You've got some super fans in our home!
This makes me want to relect on my teachers and where I am now, to make a reconnection like that. It was my kindergarten teacher who sparked an interest in teaching for me but I didn’t initially stick to that. I tried other things and finally found my way into teaching. It was only then, that I realized I could take that all the way back to my kindergarten teacher!
I believe that good teachers are truly the best people on earth. The amount of good that they can spread during their career touches thousands if not millions of people over time and spans generations.
your flipbook kit was actually used in one of MY classes in the 6th grade!! my quest teacher showed us your "grumpy cloud" flipbook and we made our own, it was such a fun lesson and im so happy to see how you started!!
Mrs Caldwell...you have shared flip books with so many more people than you ever imagined. I grew up with flip books...showing my age lol...but now I get to share it with my kids...and I've no doubt they will share this art form with their children, too...
Beautiful video. The ripples of those we affect in life are what makes every life worthwhile and meaningful. I think you underestimate Mrs Caldwell's animation, though. It's a snowman who winks to the camera then turns to the sun as he begins to melt. It's a very poignant metaphor for accepting the inevitability of death.
This is amazing because she inspired you and you inspired me to start making flipbooks!! Its crazy to think that she inspired all of us to make our own!!
My 10-year-old loves you, and he had me watch this with him. As a 51-year-old mama I couldn’t have been more thrilled! I admire you so very much and I love Mrs. Caldwell so very much! She just showed such delight. Needless to say, it is because of people like you that I let and want my child to watch TH-cam. Thank you so very much. We need men our little boys can admire more than ever. Truly truly thank you
I love this video. It is so great that you have shared this moment with the teacher who got you into flip books. This I a great video. And what a wonderful teacher. She is simply amazing.
I rarely comment on videos, but just had to let you know how much I loved this piece. So heart warming and inspirational. Thanks to you and Mrs. Caldwell. ❤
when i was 8 there was a carnival and i got my nails painted i think like a kind of green and some stickers from my teachers and i played games and likes bowling, spin the wheel, duck game, cart ride (i got 5 scratches and i crashed the whole line bumped into me and it was chaotic), and we got some food but i spent all my tickets and my sister only had tickets to buy herself food. that was an amazing childhood and i still remember it to this day❤
