What I always appreciated about radio was the simplicity; turn it on and tune it in. So much for that concept.

Really neat. I just don't like the idea of a non replaceable internal battery. They should have a removable battery for a radio at this price point.

I like the military aesthetics of this Retekess TR111 radio (like the TR112 too), particularly with the dark green casing which makes me nostalgic, colour-wise and size-wise, for a GE transistor radio I had as a kid back in 1977. :)
The radio app is the cherry on top on already a excellent very respectable price point for a pocket size radio that has all bands that beginners level. Great review.

Best "how to Retekess-TR111" video/resource I've found so far. Thank you so much for posting this. I'd love some further "how to's" demonstrating some of the other functions. Like these:
-Setting/canceling the alarm clock
-Setting the time
-Setting presets
-Using/navigating the preset list
-Setting the sleep timer
-How to use the "PC" mode
-More on how to use the micro SD and proper formatting
Another video covering these functions I know would help me and many other Retekless-TR111 users. I see more and more people buying these and there's just hardly any good info on how specifically to use it out there. Your video was by far the most informative resource I have found for this product. Many thanks!
PS. Is there a voice memo function on this if I'm using an SD card?
I'm very tempted to buy one of these over a DAB pocket radio as I like the idea of listening to random stations from all over the world. I'm getting a Samsung Active Tab 2 for Xmas which is going to form part of my EDC, I use a nokia dumb phone so the tablet would be great as a controller for this radio, sort of like a mini listening station in my bag

For the price why wouldnt you just get a uv-k5? Is there somthing this cant do that that cant?
It can record, not sure how the UV-K5 does on Medium, or Shortwave.

If you turn the cell phone off will the radio turn off also?
No, it just shows you are not connected anymore, unless you left the app open, and put the phone to sleep then it will show it is still connected.
Many thanks for the look, Todd. Have you looked at the Lijiani RD239, yet? I have one and really like it. It covers the entire SW band, VHF, Air, WX. etc. AND the firmware is updatable by SD card (i have done it and takes 4 seconds). They are continuosly updating it. It's around $50, but i got it on offer for $35. I would appreciate your input. Many thanks.
I returned my Lijiani RD239 - Very poor on Airband with constant breakthrough and no squelch!
@@billrobertson4892 OK, thanks for the info. I haven't really explored the Airband as i have never used it before. Squelch has never bothered me as i am an old military tank radio operator when we had no squelch control anyway ;-) My main interest is SW and VHF and mine does great on them since the updated software. Did you update yours? I just bought a Tecsun PL330 and on SW it seems very similar. I like SSB though, so i wanted the Tecsun.
Recording is an issue with mine. Once they get that figured out, I may review it.

@@billrobertson4892 Just checked mine and it's the same...no squelch yet on Air. It has squelch on VHF, though, so maybe they will take care of Air in the new update, which i haven't done yet. It came out a day or two ago and i give them credit for continuous firmware updates. Nobody else does that apart from Carratti.

Depends on which FM Band you pick. Page 12 in the manual.

@@todderbert Found, thanks a lot. It was not evident. I had to switch on 87 mhz FM (10 khz AM).
When I playing my mp3 files on the TF card, multiple times in a 30 minute track, it will pause for about one second. I HATE THIS. Anyone else have this problem, or do I have a dud?
try a small sd card, like a 32 or 16GB. If they are higher you have to format them EXFat, and I believe only up to 256GB. I myself would use a smaller card.

@@pentwaternrainstructor399 I would try a different card with just a few files on it for a test. If still trouble, is it just the one track? maybe it is VBR, and the device is having trouble handling it. Converting it to CBR may do the trick. Just ideas.
Thanks todderbert. I have hundreds of thousands of 128/44 mp3 files and I made them all, so I know the trouble doesn't lie there. These same files play perfectly on every other player. I may return it for another tr111.@@todderbert
What's the antenna wire you clipped to the TR111 antenna? I'd like to get one.
You can use a Kaito T-1, or Sangean ANT-60. They include the clip on adapter.
