    Just taking a moment to comment something I noticed today. Blender hasn’t been this stable since before 2.8 for me. 4.2 is a fantastic release. Excited for the future!

      True with the exception of my install (4.0, 4.2, 4.3) randomly crashing every 20th time when I open the file browser to load in an image texture.

      It has been the opposite for me, but that probably relates more to the issues intel has with its processors (i've updated early in the year to 14900k and regret it ever since) 4.0 was a bit crash prone, 4.2 is quite unstable when rendering. At home, no Problems with an Ryzen 3600X.

      4.2 has an absurdly slow viewport, specifically in viewport shading.

    I hope Blender will focus on big scenes, physics, simulations, geonodes, animation, rendering, compositing. I think it doesn't have to be the best in editing either. But 3D tracking needs to be improved too. The main thing is to output a beautiful sequence to a folder. That's why we love Blender. You are the best. We support you.

    • @NotSoMuchFrankly

    • @xanzuls
      @xanzuls หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Big scene is a complex thing to focus on, physics and sims are already under development, geonodes? Isn't that what they've been developing for the past 3+ years, and they've already caught up to other procedural dccs when it comes to geometry manipulation. Animation has been under development as well with animation 2025, and we've already seen so many updates because of that, same with rendering and comp there are updates after updates. The 3D tracking in blender is hands down one of the most underrated features because in one of my real world projects, it worked better than dedicated tracking software, but there's always room for improvement so you make sure to put your money where your mouth is and donate to blender because the software is not gonna develop itself.

      @@LeoMastroTVI’d be grateful if you could answer some honest questions if you have time.
      1) What makes AI different (in your view) from a junior draftsperson drawing inspiration from lots of existing works?
      2) What is the impact of that difference practically?
      3) What is the impact of that difference morally?
      4) Is the core of art and creativity more the product or the process? What’s the balance between them?
      5) Are there any problems with the existing concept and systems of copyright and moral rights apart from those coming from AI?
      I’m working at the moment on a project to find better alternatives to our current ways of rewarding and incentivising artists and I want more detailed opinions than ‘AI evil’ or ‘AI solves everything’. My background is in both AI and secure digital provenance. I am also an artist (music and graphic design mostly) so I have a keen interest in finding a set of balanced options that might also redress some of the problems the previous settlement has caused for all creatives.

      @anuragekka2190 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@productjoe4069 Not the person you asked, but AI takes from large data of stolen copyrighted works. I am not against AI tech itself, I don't have any qualms with AI trained on ethically sourced data. But if you think AI should be able to train on any data it can get its hand on, and that it is not theft, do you think I can steal microsoft's apps source codes or internal company documents, train AI models on it and open source the model, and it would not be considered a theft? After all my AI is just taking 'inspiration' from it?

    As an artist, I'm a reluctant about the mention of generative AI being incorporated into native Blender. I appreciate the speaker's conservative approach to the topic. I'm not sure any generative AI (LLM or anything that generates 2D or 3D assets) should be built into the program itself at all. Though, algorithms for de-noising and such sound useful.

    Blender needs to improve on the view port performance for realtime animation playback, animation, Physics engine, Large scenes. We ditched blender for unreal engine for all the things listed. The whole simulation/physics system while being pretty good quality results wise, the interoperability is so strange and working right in some instances... Do a features/functions mapping exercise to work out what features you could disable/hide and still have blender work as a tool for beginners. Then, when they aren't afraid anymore and go looking, you provide an option to selectively turn them back on. Many of my artist friends rule blender out because of the busy interface (which isn't a problem for power users). The AI stuff that cascadeur is doing should be on the table. Also, the use of AI to solve texture mapping and baking is a no-brain. Love Blender and will keep using it.

      Consider your wish granted - Blender is putting the maximum amount of love into simulations. To be clear, the existing physics features in Blender are end of life, don't expect any updates to these. Physics in Blender is in the process being completely rewritten as a node based system, there's a lot of low level functionality that needs to be added (loops, lists etc) before any solvers can be added on top. In the most recent version of Blender for example, "for each" loops were added, which is an essential complement of simulations. My advice to users is you don't have to be in the dark about these things, the roadmaps are made public and the development of Blender is documented extensively online. Go onto dev talk and you'll see the developers directly addressing questions such as "why can't you just add this or that in Blender", and the answer is usually that "we are, but it's dependent on this other thing being implemented first".

    If you guys want the whole pipeline, as you say yourselves, to be done within blender then you should focus on the basic stuff instead of implementing AI in every thing possible. Why would you even want to put it in the python module? No artist would ever open it to do the stuff they want through python scripts. It is a waste of resources for implementing a feature that your target audience doesn't want and doesn't need.
    Show some love for the sculpting tools, you have an ability surpass zbrush but you don't even have a zremesher-like tool and one that was build by a third party is being paywalled as an addon. This basic feature should be available from the box. And I'm not even mention that the amount of polygons you can manipulate simultaneously while sculpting is extremely low though I am glad that you do acknowledge this issue. How do you guys want to build a superapp for everything when you don't want to cover the basic needs from your community?

      @@deepblender if they want to implement a generative AI to the python module than you can consider that it is being implemented "in every thing possible" because you can manipulate every process in the app by its python api. I agree, it didn't sound like they were full blown AI-vangelical but personally I'd rather see improved viewport performance when animating complex characters or more of the proposed features of the new animation module (rigging nodes, improved NLA/control selectors...) being implemented before a native LLM for the text editor.
      Besides, I'm sure someone has made an add-on that makes API calls to chatGPT inside Blender for Python coding already.

    Blender needs to work on the basics. Importing and exporting is still a mess of cryptic settings, unapplied scales, transforms and wrong pivots, and you still cannot drag and drop in 2024.
    Accuracy in modeling, non destructive, proper workflows without ridiculous obscure hotkeys. Blender is a great software but work on the core, not flashy new gimmicks.

      what you talk about is not the core :D you talk about user experience in exporting and modelling - 2 very specific parts of Blender which are usually handled by individuals. This talk was about big picture ideas which are important but your comment focuses on specifics and workflows - better suggest that to actual developers through other means than this comment section. And I encourage you to check what work has been done on exporting in recent releases and look at addons that are more focused on exporting (betterFBX, autorigPro exporter etc)

I understand if artists dislike prompt to image, but that is just one type of generative AI or one time of image generator. There are so many other kinds of image generators which don't just rely on prompts. And even prompt to image generators can be used in different ways by artists to experiment and learn, without the need to actually using the results in the final images.

    Regardless of your views on AI, generative or otherwise, you're going to at best alienate and at worse loose a good amount of your users for even adding it in future releases without the option to omit it from the program completely. Look at platforms like Twitter, the lack of an opt-out for their own AI workings caused an immense migration of users and it's standing has plummeted just this past week or so.
    Blender isn't social media obviously but many other platforms and software like Photoshop have drawn immense ire for their AI integration, and driven creatives towards alternatives. Please, and I mean this as someone who's used and loved Blender since the very early 2010s, please reconsider this.
    Spend these resources on improving things that have long needed it. We still don't have light linking/light groups in Eevee, weight painting, rigging, and UVs desperately need and update. Don't chase a wasteful and unsustainable trend when you're already well on your way to becoming competitive to industry standard software suites. Stay better than them. Stay away from AI.
