I actually remember watching this episode. Denise Pence is so wonderful. Great sense of comedy and timing.

I love characters like Katie, and Joanne from SFT. They are true, blue friends who are loyal. I see so much of these characters in me. This is why I have such an affinity to them. I believe that if you have just one loyal friend, who love you despite your flaws. That's a gift. ❤

I concur. The clarity of his eyes are great. Because of the age of the tapes, you really can't see how blue they really are.
Funny how that kid that Ross is mentioning turns out to be the love of his life years later.
Thanks for sharing this. I'd seen pieces of this but I was surprised at just how much I hadn't seen, including extremely powerful moments like Peggy swearing Roger could not rape a woman, and Bert saying just as strongly that Holly had clearly been raped, that Holly had been beaten and terrified. To put Bert in this type of role instead of just having her be the safe voice trying to support everyone and wringing her hands is what connects this to the audience, so the audience won't just feel that Holly got what she deserved.
I spent 3/4 of that Hope scene sure she was talking to Ben, only to realize it wasn't him when he said he was divorcing Amanda. I had no idea Amanda was even married before arriving on the show. I thought she just played the piano for her mother. He really does look a lot like Ben. I guess she had a type. That poor actor, Marcus Smythe, went on to the thankless Peter Love role on AW.
The guy who played the aggressive reporter looked familiar to me. His name in the credits told me. He (David Snell) was a temp recast of Hal Carson on the very last episode of Love of Life. What makes it more confusing is another actor temped for the character the day before. That's so rare - a tempt of a temp. I imagine Hal's fans left the show feeling very confused and/or disappointed. If the show had lasted one more day they would have just put Audrey Peters in a wig.
I had heard of Gordon Middleton in the past and knew Amanda had been married to him, but by the time I began watching GL regularly, Gordon was already gone.
Reminds me of a question I posed to somebody a while back: Once Douglas Marland took over as headwriter and he introduced the character of Gracie Middleton (Nola's friend), was Gracie perhaps Gordon's sister??
Yes, the Bert/Peggy scene was powerful and I'm glad they had Bert take an active part in this storyline as well.

I loved the Katie stuff in this too (I really liked her with that guy). As you probably know, they had all the food jokes because Denise Pence was pregnant. Marsha Clark later parodied this in Guiding Plight, with Katie surrounded by food boxes.

Damn! Jackie has that "Why in Hell did I marry this man?" Look on her face. She said it was to be close to her natural son Philip. But she was warned by Elizabeth.
Amanda was married in the past. She was Amanda Middleton, married to Gordon Middleton before she went back to Wexler. This was way before she fell in love with Ben, who eerily looks a little like Gordon, only without the dimples. I thought Gordon was cuter though.
Due to tape age, Ross's eyes appear to be green. But they were a piercing Aqua Velva blue.
Hillary's moving in with Bert -- not because she's afraid of Roger -- but to escape from those ORANGE walls in that apartment. lol.
Is Denise Pence (Katie) pregnant in this episode? I recall her being so around this time.
Hope looks so young and pretty.
And she was healthy looking. Some of today's soap actress are fake looking. They look like mannequins. Too much makeup, way too much hair , and clothing so tight, that it looks like sausage casings. The actresses then were naturally pretty.

That Reporter is flubbing his lines like crazy. He called Ed Dr. Thorpe, and then called Roger Thorpe Roger Sharpe. Did they pay him that day? I see pieces of his check tearing away. Oh, Mylanta!
I caught that right at the moment I saw your comment. They probably let it slide because the actor fixed what he said. Plus they probably didn’t want to do a reshoot.

Ross had a complicated relationship with Justin and then he finally sees what Justin went through with him when his Half Brother Ben Warren comes to Town.
#1 both Justin & ross I liked ...I didn't adore ross til blake came along but always enjoyed ross the character , at the time Justin was a handsome man ( before they replaced him 🧐...I never bought the whole all of a sudden story that Ben was ross's half brother ....he could've easily become Rogers son hart ( scarred beyond belief in terrible accidemt hart comes back to town ) Ben was too horrible he even tells blake you like to self sabotage yourself when in reality he couldn't stand that blake would always love ross no matter ..I remember in those locter interviews Jerry verdorn said the writers brought hunt block on but had no idea how to start the whole half brother story revenge thing or how to end it .
What Peggy doesn't understand is that this happened because of Roger's rage against Ed. His obsession with Ed, and what he thinks his wife's feelings are for him. Peggy and Ed don't have a romantic relationship. Despite her mother's affair with his father, Ed loves Peggy like a sister, and the Bauers considers her family.
That’s not Peggy, you mean Holly. Peggy and Roger were divorced in 1977.
Oh here's another fun fact. Peggy Fletcher was played by Fran Myers who along with her Ex Husband Roger Newman (RIP) who played Ken Norris became Writers for Days Of Our Lives. Fran Myers was also the name of a Character on The UK Prison Drama Bad Girls played by Eva Pope. What's so quirky about UK TV is that many of them either do The Soap Opera Coronation Street, Then Bad Girls, then others start on Bad Girls and then do another Soap Opera EastEnders. I told UK Soap Fans about how Actors on Guiding Light later work on All My Children and vice versa.
Imagine if Ken Morris had escaped from the mental hospital
he was confined to ( he was sent there after shooting Ed in 1975 because he was jealous his wife Janet so he thought had an affair with Ed which never happened) came back to Springfield to finish the job. Ed would have definitely had his hands full dealing with Ken and Roger Thorpe.

I recently read that Roger had raped Rita only 5 months earlier, but she had decided not to press charges or tell anyone. So unfortunate for poor Holly that she wasn't aware of this crime !
I'm guessing Rita couldn't foresee that Roger would then go onto marry and rape Holly, Rita felt it would ruin her chances with ED, so she said nothing, I wasn't watching during the ranger trial when it came out that Rita had an affair with Roger before getting involved with Ed, I have saw scenes where she was smitten with him in a hotel, Rita never trusted her love for Ed or his love for her which was a cop out basically, she even blamed him for straying on him with the great Dr. Fairbanks, during which time she became pregnant and by the flip of a coin it turned out to be Ed's baby but unfortunately she lost the child at the hands of Roger Thorpe who kidnapped her tying her up and leaving her in a farm house that Rita accidently caught on fire by kicking over a candle trying to escape, they could never things back on track due to Rita['s continued lack of boundaries where she had an affair with Alan Spaulding once again hurting Ed, she just wasn't cut out to be a mother or loving wife, just to restless and she caused Ed nothing but grief and heartache. such a fool to give up a great man like Ed for a narcissist who seem to believed he was entitled.
Rita should have come forth after Roger raped her or at least told Ed or Mike Bauer.
Had Rita confessed from jump about being raped by Roger, none of this cah-raziness would not have happened.
If only Rita pressed charges right away and warned Holly about him then she probably wouldn’t have married Roger in the first place and the rape wouldn’t have happened.
Ed was chief of staff in 1979??? I thought Stephen Jackson was chief of staff? Ed was chief of staff at Cedars Hospital from 1973-1979; 1981-1996😊👍🏿⛑️
