  • We hiked and dove our way around St. John, USVI, hitting up all the well known spots as well as some secret spots of our own. Above the water we visit the Petroglyphs, the Old Reef Bay Sugar Mill, and Caneel Hill while below the water we check out Booby Rock and Lovango. We stumble upon a baby goat and find a few lobsters. We meet new friends and face a new challenge that will impact our sailing adventure.
    And our favorite part, the drone footage at Rams Head!
    We hope you enjoy, friends!

    Episode 12 wow you’ve came a long way 👍that was good work with a lot of variety!Sucks about your bent strut and shaft,that puts you in a bad situation 😐I probably would keep less lobster 🦞 per day but they must have plenty there.That hike and all you filmed was awesome and the drone footage was great.What a view from the top you are fortunate that you both can enjoy all that together👍You are one of my favorite TH-cam sailing couples!!!

    • @SailingOneLife
      @SailingOneLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, Mark! Our bent strut was a super bummer but it actually ended up teaching us alot about sailing as without using the engine we were forced to sail! Thankfully it all worked out in the end. Really appreciate the comments!

    Interesting history this time.
    I also wonder where that deer came from.
    Be careful about drone flying in national parks. Many many countries across the world have made it illegal to drone over national parks. Just saying. Dont want you to get in trouble. Beauiful place.
    Nice to see the different kind of lobsters. Which one do you like the best?

    • @SailingOneLife
      @SailingOneLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Gary checks the rules for flying the drone each place we go, sometimes we can't find any rules at all. In most places we've found we can fly the drone without issues. In USVI you can fly the drone for recreational purposes we long as you aren't in an airport zone.
      We love all lobster but we really like the Slipper lobster the best so far. They are very tender and taste like they have been soaking in butter all their life!

  • @PALJamesKC
    @PALJamesKC 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    What dive mask is Gary using with that sweet beard?

    • @SailingOneLife
      @SailingOneLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a Scubapro but to be honest I don't remember what model. No problems sealing when the beard gets this long actually. When it's short and stubby sometimes it is a pain. 🤙

    You aren’t concerned with Ciguatera from eating all of that reef fish?

    • @SailingOneLife
      @SailingOneLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Mike! We always talk to the locals to see what fish they eat. Ciguatera varies from place to place. So far we haven't had any issues! 🤞

  • @malicus01

    i know i'm late and i hope you change your style in catching. but as "no size regulation" does it mean you can catch a rellay tiny lobster that could live years , produce other lobster...just keep the big ones, that is what you should do, what your soul should say to you. Nice channel, hope in the other videos i see less "No regulated" lobster

    • @SailingOneLife
      @SailingOneLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Maurizio! It's never too late to comment! The spotted spiny lobsters and slipper lobsters you saw in this video are full grown adults. They don't get any bigger than that. We have seen and left alone hundreds if not thousands of juvenile lobsters over the years, and will continue to let them grow. 👍🦞

    If you really love the ocean you don't catch fish or lobster. The reefs are decimated already as-is.

    • @SailingOneLife
      @SailingOneLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's like saying if you really love the Earth, you shouldn't breathe the air. There's already enough CO2 as is! 🙄
      The reefs have not been destroyed by people hunting or fishing to feed themselves. In fact if everyone only ate what they hunted (or grew) themselves, our natural world would be in a far better state. Let's focus on the real issues, not the sustainable harvest of a few lobster and fish a year.

    • @stephen243
      @stephen243 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SailingOneLife Shrug. Everyone thinks the lobster THEY take is no problem. Until one day there are no lobster, conch, grouper, or any other creatures left. All of those are vital to the reefs and seagrass beds. Populations are down drastically. I lived here for 45 years and have been snorkeling and diving for 35 of those years. The change to the reefs and populations during that time has been dramatic. If you really loved nature and reefs, you wouldn't catch and destroy the animals that live there.
