- In today's video we take a look at a 2002 Ford F150 Lightning pick up truck with a 5.4l Supercharged V8! This truck has a very interesting back story, because I actually rebuilt this engine 2 years ago at my repair shop. The truck is back with some problems and we are pretty sure it has a blown head gasket, but we need to be sure before we take this engine back apart! Stay tuned and enjoy this awesome truck!

@Over Load Great point! We will find out in the next video!
When I was into my 4th year working at a Ford dealership, I was the drivability guy. I started to see a trend occurring for a few a short time with these old guys buying them Lightings, as a midlife crisis vehicle. Them fellas were running nitrous on them trucks and I kept on having trucks come in for the rough running concern under warranty, after locating the plugged hole in the underneath area of the induction tube, them old fellas warranties were VOIDED, they raised hell and the dealership paid for their aftermarket warranty because of the aftermarket accessories salesman lied to them and really wrecked our reputation for a minute. In 2018 we won the President Award from FoMoCo
Yeah,it's been steamed clean,good job,the Borescope never lies,lol.
Relaxing at the river walk watching the master
Eric please reply to my email, don’t turn down money! I need help with a car.
I enjoy your presentation as I am of "old school" and know nothing of modern electronics in vehicles, but I have already learned a tremendous amount from your videos. Many of the shop and dealer problems that you have encounted are not confined to your part of the world only. Parts changes are a world wide problem, in fact there are some shops that I would not even give them a pencil to sharpen, let alone a vehicle to repair. Thanks for an informative and entertaining channel. I record your videos so that I can back track to clarify certain points.
Just catching up with all the work you did on the truck. Got a bit to go so I'll be back soon. I've just bought my first lightning and clearly videos like yours are paramount in learning about them. 👍🚘🇬🇧
Not a "Ford guy" but that truck is something I would like to have.
My two dream trucks 91 gmc syclone and 2000s ford lightning both these trucks are just awesome trucks
If they had one of those over in Australia I would have!
I'd rather throw a turbo on a Silverado
Not a fan of red, BUT, love that truck, it's one of those deals that if you can get your hands on one, don't ever let it go, just ran across your channel, been binge watching, already subscribed and I don't subscribe to much. Love your videos man .
I hope you got paid for all of your hours on the original build. You are a good man!
Man Eric it’s about time man! I’ve been waiting on another video bro!
Legendary Video, especially with the whole angle of the engine! Nice 👍🏼
Great diagnose as always bro. Like how you verified the head gasket. We have to be 💯 before we make a move on customers cars
I wish there was a guy like this in Louisville Kentucky
Very, very cool truck and video.
Hopefully, you're going with a high quality MLS head gasket set, seeing it's supercharged?
Looking forward to the next episode 😁

Yep… sounds like an early 2000s Ford product.
Glad they figured life out over the years. The new lightning is sick
I have a 2001 Ford Lightning with 120,000 miles. I would love to find someone like you that can tear this engine down and rebuild it from the ground up again. It runs great now but I know an overhaul is going to be need at some point if I want to drive it another 200,000 miles.
Thanks for another great video Eric, looking forward to part 2 👍
Watching from Perth Western Australia. Nice work Eric, looking forward to the re assembly .
Amazing work!!!! Looks hard and a lot of hours!! Looking forward for next video!!!!
This in blue, hell yeah! Fav truck ever, not a fan of the new stuff. Btw the Jarrito drinks are epic!
Good job dude! Pretty dam good capture with the borescope...
I ended up here after watching the short clip of the rounded head bolt and said I gotta watch this.
Damn that's alot of work!
Nice truck it sounds raw to the bone
Glad to see you working on a vehicle you adore! I wish that code worked for the scan tool!

What happened to the clutch job on the viper?
I finished that car a few months ago. Check it out here! th-cam.com/video/oGgchcUfSPQ/w-d-xo.html
That truck is sick, Love your channel
Sweet job you have!!

Dam good mechanic wish I had you in Houston
Can’t wait! My 01 F150 4.6 has to come out. Any suggestions on lift points? Any advice is GREATLY APPRECIATED. BTW, also in the Houston area(Pearland). Peace
AWESOME WORK BROTHER THANKS FOR SHARING.
Nice work man send one of them used scanners this way lol.
Your videos are like a hit HBO production , you leave us hanging too long .I like the way you work most guys just hit and run on a repair your work is more OEM
Great video, lot of work .
what a hell of a tear down to get to the heads. shouldn't that weep hole on the water pump be facing down ?
Great video, what kind of camera are you using? The image is awesome
Sorry, I’m talking about the inspection camera
you are the man, such an interesting truck and build, cant wait to see you look at the heads, cheers!
Do you like the scan tool that you used. I've seen you use another scan tool in your other video as well. On comparison, which scan tool do you like better??
I’m not much of a Ford guy, but these trucks are cool.
I like see this type of repairs 👍
I’m a Ford guy who also owns Corvettes - go figure. It’s a shame the owner of the Lightning isn’t more intimately involved with his truck. He’d probably saved a lot of $$.
I really enjoy your videos! They`re very informative.
You should consider an aftermarket upgraded MLS head gasket and head studs for this truck.
Great video, that’s a big job. Well explained videos, keep it up 👍🏻
Take an engine with known head gasket problems and add a supercharger? Seemed like a good idea at the time! What could possibly go wrong?
Nice work
That thing is a beauty!
sure is! Thanks for watching!
Would you have time to turn off the engine if you saw steam
@10:55: Man!, put some tequilla on that "Jarritos"!!!!! 😆 😅 😂 🤣 🍾 🍾 🍾
Love your channel great job always
Lotta work. Might need a new block.
I love the show, i learned a lot. I just have 1 question. Was there coolant in the oil and is that a sign tthat the head gasket is blown.
It was not as visible on the dipstick, but once I opened the engine there was milkshake on the valve covers and timing cover.
Good job!
NICE ONE ERIC ... The sound on the clip .... it was fantastic .... shame that exhaust needed to be installed. It is bad a$$ truck
Your friend has deep pockets obviously. You make me laugh, you definitely have got the Gift of the Gab as they say in Ireland! Keep up the good work, I enjoy your channel.
Nice job Were are you located
thanks again Eric
What's the labor cost on head gaskets on a 03 Ford lightning..
Ton of work! That other shop really screwed the owner over
Good job man
Are you just pressurising the coolant system so that you get to see the leaks inside cyl 6?
Can't wait for the next video!!!!
Been waiting. Thank you
Nice job man keep it up 👍
I'm about to replace the head gaskets on my 2002 ford lightning and I was curious what you would charge for this ?
AGAIN GOOD JOB
Do you pay for alldata or Mitchell for the wiring diagrams or do you use the shop computers to print them out?
At least you'll have all the bolts this time! 🤣🤣
U r one hardworking young man. No phasers on the Lightening? U need and M12 extended electric ratchet. It really helps in many situations. Another tough one u did was the 4.0 with no special tools. U a genius!!
Sometimes Money and Brains are not Compatible
Watching your videos makes me want to work on my 86' 5.0. It needs a total engine rebuilt. Thanks again for your awesome work.
While I prefer your in-depth hard to crack troubleshooting, I enjoyed this video very much. Also lay off those Jarritos brother
Where’s your shop?
"Wake up feeling.......... Ninj-awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Thanks for sharing!
It's very nice.
They need to make a 2 thumbs up 👍🏽 button.
Man, sat for 3 years, got sorted out and then blew off a heater hose. You're in Texas right? Why not just bypass the heater all together?
Part two please
I think Ford factory "premium" exhaust are the best sounding on the market.
Just my opinion.
Bravo
Thumbs up fro sure...inlobe your channel man
I have the same truck…. Needs work., where are you located?
Can you help?
Grasias
Nice job, but don`t the neighbors complain?
I keep everything I do inside my garage. Sometimes I work with the door closed. Nobody bothers me.
Are y’all still doing work on my names I need a Supercharger ported can you help me with that
Mil respecto 💯
The owner doesn't deserve to have such a nice truck. Dumb to abuse it.
Great video, can't wait for the next video!! Are you going with APR head studs?
its got the wrong antifreeze in it .
THE SHOP REUSED THE FACTORY CYLINDER HEAD BOLTS. AN DID NOT REPLACE THEM WITH NEW. OR UPDATED BOLT SETS. AN HAVE TO BE TORQUED IN 3 STEPS. USING TORQUE ANGLE..... DONT BE FOOLED. YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE BETWEEN GASKET AN BLOCK. (LOOSE BOLTS) OR OVER STRETCHED BOLTS..
Dom: You work for harry?
ALA: yes
Dom: not anymore
I love jarritos
it never could dominate the 1500 454 SS chevy
I'm enjoying your video this is the first time watching your channel. You gave me an idea.. what if there way an alarm or some kind of buzzer that would go off when the temperature gets to a cirten level. That could work for trans temps coolant temps. Or any Temperatures. As we know they are Important to pay attention to when it comes to longevity. Dose this like I'm thinking correctly? Btw the little red light just isn't good enough lol
Where on earth do you find these things; by which I mean, stop looking there
wish you lived by me would love to help you and learn!
Not a fair comparison. The Chevy 454 SS is a stock factory truck. The Ford Lightening is a modified F150 with racing parts from the SVT division. The Dodge Ram V10 was also modified by MOPAR and had the Viper engine. I will never be a Ford guy myself, but I have to admit the Lightening is a sweet rig.
Pour some tequila in the engine, it will run like brand new. wooo
Jarritos Lime :)
Man I thought I was fast, you can run rings around me.
He wasn’t really going that fast, I think it was sped up.
@@kinglangren yea i know, just looking for chuckle
