  • A how-to video on weaving baskets from vines you can find in the woods or fields near your home. No special tools needed. I used wisteria vines in this simple, easy to follow tutorial. This video show how to finish the basket off with strips of old cloth. #basketweaving #homesteading #bushcraft

    I love the rustic look of these baskets! And they seem to be so sturdy and useful. I thought basket making would be a lot more difficult and technical, but I bet you I could make one! I would have to make all sizes and shapes! Thank you for this wonderful vid!!❤

      @@hummingcatfish that's so interesting you mentioned meditation because as soon as you started weaving, I could feel my brain switching into meditation zone. I knew right then that basket making would be so relaxing👍😊

    This is so clear and easy to follow. I've been experimenting with both invasive vines and scrap fabrics for baskets, but not together! What a good idea. Thanks for sharing.

    Love the basket! If my arthritis would cooperate, I could actually make one of these with your, as always, awesome clear, step-by-step instructions! Thank you Aunt Judy, for passing on this wonderful skill, by way of your sweet niece, to us!

      Oooohhhh, I wish I could be there too!! I think you were 2 or 3 the summer your mom showed us basket weaving. I was really bad at it, but your mom was so patient. The summer we did egg rolls was another favorite 😋. I bet those kiwi vines would make beautiful baskets (send pics or better yet- do a video!!!) You got me wanting to grow some 🥝 Thank you for being so supportive 🙏❤️

    Very interesting. Do the vines have to be dried then soaked before weaving or can you use fresh cut vines?

    • @hummingcatfish
      @hummingcatfish  29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I cut them in the colder months and let them sit a week. I think if you cut them in the summer you would let them sit longer. If they were to dry out completely then I would soak them. Hope that helps 😊

    Can you weave your baskets with fresh wisteria? Or do you need to dry it first? Does it shrink if it's still green?

    • @hummingcatfish
      @hummingcatfish  หลายเดือนก่อน

      If they are too fresh they shrink a lot. It's so funny because just last week I was looking at the wisteria and wishing it was not so green so I could weave 😂 I usually harvest mine in the winter (after the leaves die), but I'm thinking if we cut some green and give it extra dry time, it should be good! Alright, I'm off to the wisteria patch 😁

    • @frankiealcorn8464
      @frankiealcorn8464 25 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@hummingcatfish - Thanks for the info!! I'm teaching myself basket-weaving, and I'm finding the hardest part is knowing when/how to harvest and prepare the materials. I'm like you - I want to use materials from my own yard - especially invasives - although I have lots of apple and peach prunings too. And your tip about using velcro to hold the coils is golden!! Mwah!
