    Wish I’d found your video before I started working on my gadget-cache birdhouse . . . I’m like your ideas and designs a lot more than the gimmicks I tried. I guess I’ll just have to (finally) paint, finish, and hide this one . . . And start the next one! Different meaning than usual, but . . . THANKS FOR THE CACHES! - GeoCrunchyBill

    Nice way of creating a cache based on an existing product!

      Many of mine do that, I've used an Etch a Sketch, xylophone, legos, marbles, easy button and I could go on and on.

    Oh yes, we remember that geocache very well. We have found it October 2016. And that Inn was also a good place to stay. We would like to come back one day. Best wishes and thx from Germany.🤙

    I like using PVC board outside instead of pine. PVC is more expensive, yes, but it will never rot, never leak. Pieces with also fuse together well with a PVC rated expoxy. The material is also paintable. It makes cache maintenance low to not needed at all. Thanks for sharing, Tim. :)

    Thanks for the new video!!! So excited. You are the inspiration for my birdhouse gadgetcaches. I have built 5 of the seven gadgetcaches in my area. I am halfway through building 5 more for a gadgetcache power trail. Thanks again.

    So glad you posted this one up. We always draw inspiration from your gadget caches. My husband, Jonathan, did a series where he put the gadget inside ammo cans so we didn’t have to make the bird houses. Have you ever thought of doing it that way?

    • @gadgetcaches
      @gadgetcaches  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've done a few but they have to be hidden of course and the few I have done have been stolen. I still prefer hiding in public places where business take "ownership" of the cache. They keep and eye on it for me.

    WHAT!!!! No signature WVTim sign off, 'raising the geocaching bar one cache at a time!' :) I really like the idea and concept. Down here in the south, I am like Derek, wasp! Might put a removal flap or something like that over the opening. I will come up with something, but thank you for sure for getting me thinking about building one! Nice video and thanks for sharing the idea... Nice build.

    • @knightjocke

    What if dangerous insects make a nest in the big hand cavity?

  • @jimd6162
    @jimd6162 ปีที่แล้ว

    I watched the video a couple times, very cool cache,luv the idea,,,,Only question I have is, have you had any trouble with wasps and hornets building their nests in the slot you stick your hand up in to activate the motion detector?

    • @gadgetcaches
      @gadgetcaches  ปีที่แล้ว

      I could see that could happen but no, no nest have ever been built there. I guess all the activity keeps them away.

  • @BehindtheCache
    @BehindtheCache 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    WVTim have you had any problems with wasps flying up inside and making a nest? On some of mine that I did is South Carolina that was a problem with many caches. Just curious.

    • @gadgetcaches
      @gadgetcaches  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a perfect spot for wasp on this cache, but in 7 years never a problem. Might be I get soooo many people finding my caches that the activity prevents them from getting started. Not sure why, but no problems on this one.

      @@gadgetcaches Here in Ontario we put dryer sheets in areas where wasps may try to make nests, apparently they can detect the smell and don't like it.

    This is a great idea for a cache. Do you have a link for the lights and PIR? I'm trying to find one on EBay and Amazon UK but they all seem to be one piece rather than ones you can separate.

    • @nealgreen8188
      @nealgreen8188 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Found one. For anyone in the UK this looks similar to the one used www.screwfix.com/p/saxby-laryn-led-floodlight-pir-black-1-x-2w-daylight/5278j

    • @gadgetcaches
      @gadgetcaches  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Video at 4:25 points out that I separated, I just cut off one light entirely and the other I cut the plastic and then the wires and I explain that I added a piece of wire in.

    • @gadgetcaches

      Birdhouse like this one should last for years and years. One way to extend the life of any birdhouse is to put a tin roof on it.

    Hi there wvtim I’m curious to as how you are putting the 4x4 posts into the ground

    • @gadgetcaches
      @gadgetcaches  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I just use a post hole digger, I try to bury them 18-24 inches. Use a tamping bar to tamp them in well, makes them rock solid.
