    i swear basically any video of an unintentional (or unplanned) landing with a paraglider always ends in a tree... even if there are no trees around, one will suddenly grow XD it's as if they're trying to catch you.

    Nothing to do with weather, everything to do with half wrap on brake and holding too much brake input during spiral recovery surge, glider never allowed to fly until hand is released from brake when reserve is reached for. Glider fly's again fine after brakes are released to through reserve. Common problem, predictable outcome.

      God bless you sir I'm just learning how to ground handle my epsilon 9 and I I'm on the very top of the weight range I'm going to fly a trim speed and keep my hands up as much as I can. I'm going to avoid spiral diving as much as possible.

    Rain increases stall speed. As a prohylactic measure, you could have pushed the bar to avoid parachutal stall. You will not always have a tree or plenty space below you the next time it occurs.

    Ehrlich. Also immer dran denken Happy landings!

    Ciao, ThiO 😬

    it was a parachutal stall? i am curious about which glider is this and also if does anyone of your team mates face similar issues during the landing... the tree save you from the power lines just a few meter ahead... good atitude throwing the reserve and neutralizing the canopy

    Massimo, great that you got down safely (and that you missed those power lines).
    I have so many questions. Why did you spiral down - was it rain? Did you hit some form of shear or low-level turbulence? Please explain in English. Thanks in advance!

    • @paramax12
      @paramax12  10 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      It's started raining too much.. so I decided to go down in spiral, but after 2-3 seconds of "normal flight" after the spiral, the wing was too soaked and starded to collapse (parachute stall.. I don't know exactly in English, sorry) ;)

    • @silvioduarte202

      Massimo Guidi How about the other guys, did they land without problems?

    • @paramax12
      @paramax12  10 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yes, they landed without big problems! My second mistake (after flying with rain) was the spiral to go down faster.. because the wing (totally wet) after this, didn't have speed and started to collapse.

    • @silvioduarte202
      @silvioduarte202 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @rjbowen25
      @rjbowen25 9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      ***** After the spiral his leading edge would probably be the wettest and Heaviest part of the wing. Using the speed bar without good air speed would result in a frontal collapse.

    • @skycruiser50
      @skycruiser50 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Lesson #1: Don't fly in the rain! Even a small amount has the strong possibility in getting you a parachutal stall. A friend of mine broke his back last year. Light rain, stall from 15 meters, no time to throw the reserve! Glider was Ozone Delta! Get ready for PLF early!

    • @easygtr

    • @matmat406

      S.Alexander Petraj Are hand gliders safe to fly in the rain ?.......

    • @easygtr
      @easygtr 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Nothing is safe flying in the rain because of the surface of the wing when it gets wet it ruins the airflow and it gets heavy, but the hang glider would have gained way more speed and landed safely on the ground. By the way you are a lucky man brotha (the pilot) for getting so closed to those power lines and still alive.
      Keep on flying and never give up!!!

    • @skycruiser50
      @skycruiser50 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      S.Alexander Petraj Like pilots flying hand gliders don't get hurt!!! I have seen enough hand glider crashes, that I would not make the statement you made, above. The pilot is unsafe, not the wing!

    • @lovehorrordotde
      @lovehorrordotde 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The stall was because of the rain. Accelerater which could have helped was not attached. Spiral down would have been more helpful if he changed the direction of the spiral a few times, in order to distribute the water to the different sides.

    As a power pilot I'm ignorant of the handling of paraglders, but my (uniformed) question is if the wing was battened, would it stop the potentially fatal wing collapse?

  • @kamilhorvat8290
    @kamilhorvat8290 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I'm a bit confused - why did he throw reserve? Only to get faster on the ground? The wing seemed fly just fine till the reserve throw and for a short while even after that.

    I flew a hangglider in the '70s & early '80s. They were a lot safer in downdraft conditions...

  • @LimpJimmy
    @LimpJimmy 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    The thing about hang gliders is they can't collapse but have good energy retention, pitch control and wind penetration.
    The thing about paragliders is that they can (and DO!) collapse but have little energy retention, no pitch control and have poor wind penetration.
    I've seen way too many collapses (and permanent PG injuries) to be comfortable with that kind of risk thanks. Lucky this time, hope you have the same luck next time.

    two questions...which paraglider school did you visit bevore you began with flying?
    and why even did you thought about starting when it is raining?
    did you learned anything about physics in school and what a deep stall is?
    *headshake*

    • @horus909
      @horus909 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      why is flying in rain such a bad thing? It didn't seem obvious from the video that it caused his crash, rather the wind turbulence flipped his parachute around.

    • @MRTNBLND77
      @MRTNBLND77 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cause the canopy gets to heavy and the form/profile of a wing (profile its like a normal airplane wing) is not given anymore. And the whole wing will collaps in its self from the heavy water. And/or the wing will be indolent/sluggish...especially in hard conditions when quick reaction is needed.
      This is what you learn in the pilot school in the first hours of flying!
