Allen seemed so happy to be back on his beloved Password.
Yes, he did! And for this version, he worked with veteran announcer Gene Wood! I bet it was a huge honor for Allen to have Gene shout his name in the introduction! Rest in peace, Gene Wood and Allen Ludden! 2 of the best game show legends that ever lived!
In my opinion this was the best game show ever. Simple and funny. Mr Ludden was a class act.

Yawn. (Btw- I know I'm being snarky, forgive my indulgence in that. BUT- if you want to see how hosting a show was done -WITH more ability, class, knowledge, and keeping any number of loud, drunk, obnoxious celebrities in line- the greatest was and always will be none other than- JOHN CHARLES DALY, the host of What's My Line, and the former president of ABC News.

Ludden was class, and passed just over two years after the debut.
Ludden was fantastic. No wonder Betty White loved him.

Years ago, I was driving through Fulton, Missouri with a friend, who pointed out a building where Winston Churchill once spoke. He couldn't remember Churchill's name, so he said, "You know, that guy who's always in the old pictures...wearing a hat?"
I actually saw this show the day it aired, 40 long years ago. Sylvia was one lovely lady.

I loved the NBC Claxon buzzer in the early episodes. Same tone used with Perry's "Card Sharks" & Trebek's "Classic Concentration".
I never thought "Would You Like To Do It?" came from the premiere episode
Also the "cigar" blunder.
Elizabeth Montgomery was married to Robert Foxworth from 1993 until her death.
But they lived together starting in 1973

I've always wondered why Peter Lawford never appeared in Password Plus, or whether he was ever offered to appear. I know that by 1978-1979, Peter was already in a bad place. But he was so good in Password in the '60s. And he wouldn't have rejected the offer, had he been offered :-)

Robert Foxworth before he starred in Falcon Crest a Prime Time Soap from the Creator of The Waltons
Before the neon puzzle board, and before the Alphabetics board was lighted and moved to stage right, where the doors would slide open when it was about to be played. So many little quirks in the early episodes, but the show went to a different level and really found its vibe once the set was upgraded a little, and opposite words were disallowed in the gameplay (early April of ‘79). That’s when it started to get GOOD.
Is this part of why they didn't allow the reveal of all the words in puzzles at the time on early solves? Were they truly not capable of doing it? I wondered why.
The "no opposites" rule made the game needlessly harder. Kudos to Super Password for reversing that.

Allen Ludden looks the same as he did 13 years prior to this 1979 program.
I loved this game version when new, but I missed the male voice announcing each theme word as it appeared on the screen.
That was revived soon after, with announcer Gene Wood.

The format, particularly in the aspect of scoring, was changed during development. If you look closely at the front of the desk in this and some of the other earliest episodes, you may notice that the scrapped format's scoring displays are still in place, hidden by panels.
I always wondered what that little box in the middle of the podium was for.
I remember Elizabeth Montgomery as Samantha Stevens Stevens on Bewitched. Interesting fact is that she and Robert Foxworth were living together before they got married in 1992. Sadly, she died of Cancer in 1995 and she left us a legacy for years to come. I love to see the ones with Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara.
The word "cancer" doesn't get capitalized.
While Elizabeth’s back was turned, her husband kissed the contestant. “I had fun. I got to kiss him!” Elizabeth didn’t look to happy when she heard that. 😮
If you're going to go do something like that you shouldn't even marry them. Caught them doing that at 7:51 wow and then she made that comment did she not think she was out of line kissing a married man then saying that

Probably copywrite issues because of celebrities and contestants, as well as it wouldn't generate enough money for whichever network aired it today!
