Many years ago, I borrowed a copy of the score to Tintagel from the Detroit Public Library. At that time, I was practicing playing along to recordings, and I was proficient on brass instruments and the clarinet, but Tintagel was professional game; all the quintuplets, septuplets, notes tied in odd places, the trumpet plays a high C, the horn a high B-flat. Following this score today, it doesn't appear any easier, and it makes me admire Vernon Handley and the BBC Philharmonic for playing all the difficult passages in perfect synchronization.
Yes, it's right up there. Many years ago when I was a radio announcer I produced a commercial for one of the market's most powerful and luxurious touring motorcycles (Kawasaki Voyager), and I used this music for the background. It was amazingly effective, and probably the only motorcycle commercial ever recorded without loud blues/rock music.
@@mrtchaikovsky Well, now, Mr T, I would find it very difficult to disagree with you about that. Sibelius' 5th definitely is a mighty work, and especially the finale with that totally awesome striding theme in the horns.
Man, this piece is 100 years old already? Boy, how time flies.

Stupendo Capolavoro❤✍✍✍✍✍magnifica scrittura e forma massiccia.Grande Arnold Bax
Absolutely incredible music from a severely underrated composer
Thank you so much for posting this lovely piece with the score.
Un poème symphonique attachant, très fort dans les codes de l'époque (Ravel, Sibelius...)

I can definitely hear some Elgar in this piece! 😀😀😀😀
This piece is not far off from being the greatest piece of music ever written.
I could give an entire semister course on how hard this piece drops.... There's a reason Bax was Knighted....

Not even close; it's not even the greatest piece published in 1919, which would be the final version of Sibelius' fifth.
