I really want to do this to my Harry Potter collection but I'm scared I'll ruin them... I think I'll practice on some random books from the thrift store just incase I mess up and end up ruining a book haha (after reading the books of course!)

I really like how the galaxy turned out.
Since I tend to prefer binding my books with heavier paper, do you think that would make it harder to paint an edge on?
I think the weight of the paper should be fine. I would try to cut the fore edge to be smooth so it's easier to paint on, here's how I do it - bit.ly/XfjxYr For the top and bottom edges on the text block, those are usually more even already than the fore edge, but try to stack and bind the signatures as even as you can. You can also trim those edges to be smooth.

Doing a fore edge painting with this technique would be really cool. You wouldn't see the design unless you looked for it. Like a secret piece of art 😁

And, if you haven't seen the show yet, I highly recommend it to you. It's a pretty cool puzzle to solve on your own as you're watching it. A lot of my books had some really bad damage, and this has been an amazing way to bring them back from what seemed to be their end! I repainted my Hunger Games series to have golden edges, and it looks soo cool

hi! I have done this but when I was separating my pages, the acryllic paint was coming off in some places. can you please tell what I can do? I am using high quality acryllic paints
So...I've been wracking my brain trying to find a way to easily and cleanly color the edges of my journals. Tried the spray paint idea - and I didn't like the outcome...still trying to find the best paint. STAMP PADS, girlfriend!! I was at AC Moore and they had a whole bunch of colors on sale for less than $1. The sample turned out amazing!! If the edges are clean/sharp enough - one could also use stamps. Watching this video, I think it would be neat to use patterned stamp - or I was thinking of stamping a full name :) Have you tried this method? I'd love to hear what you thought of it.
The JemmaGrl the ink from stamp pads came off when I tried it. Also they were too transparent. That's great if you were able to make it work though!

I love this idea! Do you know of any medium to decorate the cover of an art journal that is plastic or vinyl? I tried Modge Podge and sticker letter but it peeled off. I tried scrapbook glue and I just ran out of ideas. LOL Would acrylic paint work? It is black and this Galaxy idea is awesome.

The edge is amazing - but why wouldn’t you protect the case with paper or acetate, looks messy!

Has anyone tried this? I'm worried about the paint cracking and dusting off into my book! Would you need a thin varnish to stop paint flaking, or would that just be too sticky? >->
