I'm here because I just pre-ordered the 3rd book yesterday in the special edition. I've never bought one a special edition book with sprayed edges so I'm excited haha. But I bought the first 2 at walmart with plain edges. So I'm definitely going to be doing this! And to other books as well!

OMG those tiny dragons are so darned CUTE! You did a fantastic job spraying the edges, I don't think anyone would believe that your book didn't come from the publisher that way!
Thank you so much! I have been wanting to customize my entire bookshelf. Starting with rebinding my paperbacks into hardback and I was thinking about trying to spray edges and this looks amazing!!
Thank you thank you thank you for making this tutorial!!! I just found Fourth Wing at Costco with no sprayed edges. You make me want to go get clampers to make my book look just as good as yours!!!! 🤩🤩
I saw a video of a bookbinder on TH-cam putting talc on the edges so they wouldn’t stick after painting them. He would kinda fan the book a bit and apply the powder with the brush. Yours turned out so nice! You inspired me to try it.
This looks amazing! Thank you for such a good little tutorial - it's given me the confidence to get some books for wifey and try making them extra special. Hopefully she LOVES them!
Thanks so much got this tutorial! for anyone bummed that they don't have a cricut, your library might have one! I live in a mid-sized city and my library has two silhouette cameos available to use for free and staff that will help you with the software :)
THANK YOU SO MUCH for your video, I'm waiting for my copy of Fourth Wing and after a little bit of practice, definitely gonna do it on it !!! Love from France ! 🇨🇵
I looooved this video! Not only did you do an amazing job, it was awesome to see your own joy and how happy you were with how you did! Because of you, I’m going to try it myself as well!
Watching this to make my own version of a painted Iron Flame since the Waterstone edition was a pain to find. Thanks! edit: I did it! It turned out really well!! Your tutorial really helped me get it done correctly the first time. Appreciate it!
I had been looking everywhere for the special edition of the book. Finally gave up and brought the regular copy. So going to be doing this. May use gold instead for Andarna, since my Fourth Wing has the black sprayed edges.
Thank you so so so much for making this in-depth tutorial! Everyone else gatekeeps how they make their stencils and do the sprayed edges, so this was much appreciated!! Do you think for more intricate stencils that you would need to use transfer tape to apply the stencil onto the book edges?
Thank you!! Yeah you probably would need to use a transfer tape. My concern for more intricate stencils would be them not sticking down well enough all the way around causing the spray paint to get under and distorting the design. Transfer tape may keep this from happening but in general, nothing adhesive likes to stick to book pages very well.
It turned out great. Looks like you bought it that way. I've been wanting to do this with some of the books as well. While I'm willing to pay for someone else putting in the time and effort I think some of the pricing is too high (plus shipping on top of that) and in the long run it would be less expensive for me to learn how to do it myself. Thank you for showing us how it can be done. Take care.
This looks awesome and just as good as the professionals! My only questions would be does the black rub off onto your fingers and/or fade? Either way, such a great way to fancy up books!
I almost tried this then chickened out! Haha but I will say I tried gold on another book the other day and it didn't stick. Could be a various number of reasons why it didn't work but you may be better off hand painting the gold
Fantastic video! Do you sand the edges? I'm having trouble without messing up the covers (paperback and hc). I bend them out slightly but it's hard to press the pages with clamps with the covers flapping out and well just wondering your setup. thanks!
Absolutely nothing short of perfection, you're amazing, can I please ask how long you let it dry before separating the pages? I've been dreaming about dying the edge of my twilight saga books black and intend to use gouache paint(is the only one I can afford), congratulations seriously, such talent.❤
Thank you so much! I waited until the pages were no longer tacky to the touch, it wasn't necessarily a set amount of time but probably around 30 minutes to an hour. I'm doing my Twilight books right now!
I got an email about the newly revealed limited edition paperback of this book and immediately thought of this video because the design on the edges LOOKS PRACTICALLY THE SAME. LOL
Hello It looks so great… I want to ask what kind of Materials to you have taken? Acry Color or another kind of Color? Thanks for you answer.. I want do do this with Airbrush but I don‘t know which material I must take
I wonder if masking fluid that artists use to keep the paper white, would work instead of stickers or cricut. It might be easier if you are better at painting than cutting out silhouettes. Once every thing is dry the fluid rubs or peels off.
@daisyqueenofflowers3806 I waited until the pages were no longer tacky to the touch, it wasn't necessarily a set amount of time but probably around 30 minutes to an hour.
Hey! I love how this turned out. I see that you posted this awhile ago and I’m not sure if you will see this but I hope you do! Im just curious if there have been any issues with the paint coming off on hands while reading or shelf while being stored? Or are there any other problems that would deter me from doing this with some of my books?
Thank you! I have not reread the book so my only experience is going to be it sitting on my shelf. It has held up just fine, I actually just flipped through it the other day. I haven't noticed any issues with it.
OMG! I want to do this!! It shows you uploaded this 7 months ago, would you say the spray paint held up til today? Or has the spray paint started to lift or smudge on the pages if remnants of the dried paint are on your fingers?? Im just wondering to see if I should invest in like a matte varnish to keep the spray paint on!
I bought a book (To Kill A Shadow), and I thought the version I purchased was supposed to have purple sprayed edges. I read somewhere to use acrylic paint, which I just did. But the pages were stuck together. I had to go through each page to separate them. I really wish I used spray paint instead.😭😭😭 thank you for the video and the information!
I still go through and separate each page to make sure they're not stuck but for the most part I don't have an issue with that on the ones I've done in spray paint
I just finished and it turned out amazing! I didn’t press in one of the stickers enough so it leaked a bit of paint on application but other than that it turned out perfect! Thank you for the tutorial, I couldn’t have don’t it without it 💕
@WolfieXPlays That has happened to me on some of the other ones I did so I realized I definitely need to be better about pressing them down hard haha. I'm so glad it turned out well!
I measured the thickness of the book first, and then when picking the size for the stencil, I left about 1/4 inch on both sides so it wouldn't touch the edges. The exact size will be personal preference, you just want it smaller than the thickness of the book pages when pressed shut
I don't remember exactly, but I measured the width of the book pages when book is shut, then gave myself a 1/4 inch on either side. I think the book is about 1 1/2 inches so it would be about 1 inch in width for the dragons
