I grew up in North West London and studied architecture some years ago... Everytime I drive into the city along the undulating ribbon of tarmac known as the A40 'Westway' I never fail to look left and see The Trellick standing like a Sential over the city...

I surveyed the building in 1979 for Kensington & Chelsea who were taking responsibility for the building. At that time no tenants had a good word for where they lived and the problems with the refuse shoot, lift services & centralised hear & hot water system? I asked why there was a corrugated iron roof over the play area at the base of the Tower. The response shocked me. It was to stop residents above throwing bricks & objects onto the children below! I hope this has all changed with time?
