- Now that asteroid B612 is not going to hit Kerbin the crew of the Little Prince start work on a plan to bring the object into orbit around Kerbin for further study. Meanwhile the Eve Explorer rendezvous with their magnetometer satellite and begins plans to put boots on the tiny moon of Gilly.
You should call the landing vehicle the Space Ninja. It's small, it's lightweight, it's probably very quiet, and come on; you know Space Ninja is an awesome name.
Mmm I think I prefer the name "Phantom Lander".
Space Ninja ftw. Lol, late comment ftw!
Brendan Risney my comment is later
my comment is the latest
zKronoss nah
1:30 After a lifetime of absolute misunderstanding, Rusty had found his home. His entire life, there was an inescapable, all-consuming void in his heart, and the world of color and sound and family that surrounded him did naught but impede his true calling. Sitting on that asteroid, Rusty, for the first time in his life, saw staring back at him something so black and empty, so devoid of meaning or comprehension, that was all too familiar to him. Looking out into that nothingness, knowing his and all of Kerbelkinds existence was utterly insignificant, realizing the only thing holding back the consuming blackness from ripping his life away was a small pane of glass - realizing that, looking at Kerbin, that skinny sky of air was the only thing pushing back against an endless sea of nothingness, that in time it will fade, and nothing would ever even know or care that they lived - Rusty was happy.
And again a spectacular Mission. Your ships doesnt only work good, they look mostly very cool.
When Rusty put the chair down on the asteroid it reminded me of the ending of the movie Space Cowboys (I think that was the name, I haven't seen it in ages).
Old astronaut dudes, russian nuclear sattelite, then yep. Space Cowboys is the movie you're thinking of.
Theory : Since mun is in a perfect circular orbit, it is possible that a species of hyperintellegent beings that inhabited Kerbin before the Kerbals captured and terraformed an asteroid, placing it into a perfectly circular orbit as a mark of their intelligence. Since they created Mun, they could have put all of the anomalies on it. If they are able to do that, they could be responsible for all of the anomalies in the Kerbol system, building shrines to their various gods.
Where did they operate? Inland KSC.
1:29 Rusty: ooOOo Aghh OOooOO AggHH
Come on admit it you all did it too ;P
The idea of the seat on the asteroid is hilarious!
I love it!
I look forward to every single episode of Interstellar quest, thank you Scott!
How about naming the lander the Hatchling? It's a tribute to the Eagle lander. I say the Hatchling because it's a mini lander. :p
Incredible! I've never seen Kerbin look so stunning.
Reminds me of Dr. Strangelove. Ride that sucker in!
Name it
-Eagle: Optical similarity to apollo LM
-Gulliver: Irony on it's size
-SMALL: System for Manned Analysis to Lecture Lithic samples
-MINI: Miniature INstrumented Investigator
-moria: The Dwarf city in Lord of the rings
-Miri: short person in star trek
Perhaps you could make use of the Kethane supplies by building a Kethane power station, using resources extracted from the moons of Kerbin, to beam even more power across the Kerbol system? More power is always better, especially with Plasma Engines, am I right?
Kethane scanner used ! Yayys! :)
I know I'm noticing this seven years later (yes I still re-watch this sometimes while I'm working) but you got DANGEROUSLY close to quoting So I Married an Axe Murderer at about 12:45 there. I never knew that I was missing out on hearing you re-enact Scots inflected Mike Myers dialog but I do now.
I think Rusty isn't admiring the view... he's suffering from acrophobia and is hyperventilating...
Call it the Trochilinae, the scientific name of the Hummingbird. This would be suitable as it WILL spend a lot of it's time hovering. It also represents the minuscule size (obviously).
Fun fact: Hummingbirds can see clearly in the near ultraviolet.
waaa....hooo...waaa....hooo.....LOL
i like kerbal way expression XD
*1:28** lol those occasional moments when kerbals are the cutest thing ever..... then they go back to looking like green simpsons but still lol* i really need to stop bolding all my comments
Great video! The ad was weird, controversial, and psychotic though :P
"For those of you who speak Fahrenheit." - Scott Manley 2014. Yes. I love to speak in temperature measurement. :P
Your little bitty craft should be The Great Gazoo. It's a tiny little guy who flies around visiting rocky places.
Totally captured the scene with Rusty in the chair above Kerbin and made it my background, hope you don't mind! Edit: Here's a link because it's too awesome i.imgur.com/mmVSKWn.png
I'll admit I was expecting some artisting drawing of a Kerbal kicking back with a beer and watching as it all floated away the moment it was opened.
SCOTTTT! Kilograms are a unit of mass and do not change due to gravity! The weight of the spacecraft in Newtons lowers. METRIC SYSTEM!
I bet Scott know that, but he was saying it that way so that those of us that know squat about newtons would understand the point he was making.
True, but still..
Actually, mass does change due to gravity.
Carol West No it doesn't...
love these videos, from someone or has only just made orbit
The Kryton Lander in reference to Red Dwarf, thought it was about time we did some sci fi names!
I hate it when he says: "I'm Scott Manley, fly safe!"... Just because it means the episode has ended and I need to wait for another one....
I hate it because there is no such thing as a "safe flight" for me. :p
It does seem to come too soon every time, doesn't it? Someone needs to do a super-cut of all the episodes (or trim it down) into a longer production.
weird... I only have 1 death.. in my save...
Holiday Miner And about 200 M.I.A
Shitpan Loco THEY AREN'T MISSING, THEY HAVE BEEN LIVING IN LANDERS THAT HAVE BROKEN DOWN AND ARE NOW CALLED BASES!
9:04 Some weird noises are coming from the Basement of the Manley-Mansion :D
6:12 that is beautiful
i wonder if you could stick a probe with a bunch of parachuites on an asteriod and land him on Kerbin?
It's the Magic Boulder!
You really need to rig up a beamed power relay network. You did a video on how to setup satellites in the correct configuration for this kind of thing before, and it looks like you would really benefit from it.
Scott Manley is amazing.
Can confirm that Distant Object Enhancement is amongst my favourite KSP mods
9:04 close your eyes and listen...
Silly Guilly XD
Rusty's going Ooo Aaah because he is takeing a dump.
About having to keep modifying the mod to remove the data, use ModuleManager instead! It is already included in with Interstellar. This will edit the interstellar config files without modifying anything inside the interstellar folder so you can update and not need to remember to edit the configs.
For example to add the removal of science to the magnetometers, create a text file called "InterstellarFixes.cfg" and put it in your GameData folder. Inside that text file put the following text, this will be preserved across interstellar updates and have the same effect as editing the part.cfg file.
@PART[FNGCMS]:Final
{
@MODULE[ModuleScienceExperiment]
{
dataIsCollectable = True
collectActionName = Take Data
interactionRange = 1.2
}
}
However what I use is a blanket setting that will change all parts that are a science experement but don't have any "dataIsCollectable" defined to be collectable.
@PART[*]:HAS[@MODULE[ModuleScienceExperiment]:HAS[!dataIsCollectable]]:Final
{
@MODULE[ModuleScienceExperiment]
{
dataIsCollectable = True
collectActionName = Take Data
interactionRange = 1.2
}
}
And scott if you finding your always having loads of fuel left over with the Plasma Thrusters you might want to use Lithium or even Argon because with Lithium you get just over double the thrust and you still get 6469 isp which is still ridiculous, or if you want even more thrust argon gets 4.4x the thrust of liquid fuel.
Also if you have modular fuels you can add argon and Lithium as well as all the other Interstellar fuels.
Yeah I'm actually able to use the Plasma thrusters for space planes because I had a 12GW power station in low kerbin orbit. but now I also have a 35GW power station in space as well XD its because of this joint reinforcement that I managed to get 4 3.75m Fusion reactors and control room etc up in 1 lunch as well as the 12GW power station allowing me to use the thermal rocket so I only needed 12 orange tanks with standard LFO and 2 of the new 3.75m tanks with Liquid fuel to lift 415 tons the station was only 300 tons~ though so it was a little overkill, but it was the only launcher I had that was capable of lifting that much weight.
Now I should be able to even further reduce fuel needed for lift's considering I just 3x the power I have available which means I can use more Liquid fuel for the thermal rockets.
Although with that much power I'm going to be having to throttle back A LOT!!! even with the joint reinforcements and ferrams joint reinforcement mod.
i cannot beleive i wactched the whole series to learn KSPI and you not even fininshed yet :( anyway good vids :) keep it up
Hey Scott mad videos man. From watching this video you defiantly need to try and set up a base on one of those asteroids orbiting Kerban, I know you can do it.
Rcs powered mini lander ftw!
Oh man
>setting up a lounge chair on a redirected killer asteroid
What I think you should do is somehow dock the asteroid to your space station to do some cool "discovery" about it.
One reason i like kethane its because it justifies building bases on remote planets. Interstellar resources designed to be used in place, with minimal processing.
I knew of a dog named Gilly once. The ship must be called The Flea!
Naming suggestion. The Guppy.
So if you stack lot of huge asteroids together you can watch it from the ground and it will be clearly visible?
If you have the distant object enhancement then yes.
Scott Manley if you're not already, you should do this.
There is actually something like that call the zodiac lights you should look it up
I know this would be extremely time consuming and tedious but asteroids get science in all the different biomes so it could be possible to bring he asteroid to Jool on your Jool mission and get even more science.
the spaceflea seems an appropriate name
Name it the Star Flea as a homage to the starting ship in the classic space sim Freelancer.
How does he store several of the same experiments in the same capsule?
KAS does that I think
leerman22 No its not KAS its stock. Just eva and fly to the experiment module. When you right click it you can remove data. Though it still renders mystery goo and material samples useless until you clean them again. If you do this transmitting data is pretty pointless. I've unlocked well over 3/4 of my science tree from minmus biome data without transmitting anything. Was pretty fun at one point returning to kerbin with over 28+ experiments on the capsule.
Cattasraafe Its not. You can only store 1 of each experiment pr capsule in the stock game. I also use KAS so its got nothing to do with KAS.
Thats in the default game, provided that data is from different biomes/locations and the experiment can be done more than once. The mystery goo and materials bay can't be repeated unless cleaned with a science lab
Peripheral Labs was going to explain but this ^^^
Would you mind posting instructions for changing/patching the magnetometer? 12:56 (edit) btw I love this series
6:19 we are 6 minutes away from apple.
+Initialized Lights I to thought that was funny.
I love this show! ^_^
I think that squad should add that u can IVA from seats
You look familiar...
Name the lander: Gillimus, as the if you read Moho's description, it says something about Kerbal mythology, makes me believe that the Kerbals named their celestial bodies after their gods and goddesses. So maybe the god of Gilly is Gillimus
There's actually a science-giving spacer telescope part in Interstellar in case you want more telescopes.
Great series, Scott, but you are almost obscenely good at this. Why don't you just build a Dyson sphere next? Or have your Kerbals achieve sentience?
That thing looks like some kind of isotope of Helium from up top (RCS Tanks etc.), hence I'd call it Atomos or something of the likes.
I can't wait for you to unlock antimatter so you can attach it to a rock and detonate it before it hits atmo.
Is it possible to build a mining station on an asteroid? Then effectively create an asteroid-powered ship that sits on your rock? I think they did something similar in Invader Zim with the moon and mars.
Heed! Troosers, nooo!!! (Little Shop of Horrors.)
Name the probe Werner, after Werner Von Kerrman, as probes are often named after great scientists and polymaths.
You should name the lander the GaMMA vehicle: Gilly and Munar Minimalistic Ascent vehicle
I sometimes forget that Scott plays jokes on us, and I should not assume everything he says is true. A unit of measure named after Chuck Norris has not been formally adopted.
Scott I have an A-level exam tomorrow morning why must you tease me into distraction like this ;(
Hey Scott Manley and anyone else who wants it: I turned that shot of the asteroid over Kerbal into a desktop (16:10, 2560x1600) background; for anyone else who wants it: i.imgur.com/EqrQGAc.png
Source was 16:9 2560x1440, so it's a tiny bit stretched but not discernable quality loss. Resize to suit your needs. :3
Rusty spent the whole time trying to force out a fart
You could name it the Fox Lander in honor of your Little Prince theme, of course its the wrong asteroid (moon)....
Yay!
I wanna see an E-class asteroid in low orbit around Gilly!
I sure hope this is the asteroid that is gonna be attempted to be landed using wings :p
Kg are a mass unit they never change with location. You mean the equivalent of 10Kg on Earth/Kerbin. It will still mass 2.2 metric tons it will weight 98 Newtons.
I challenge u to get an asteroid in orbit around the mun or even minmus!!!
You should build an asteroid base using the hooks.
Name the ship R2-D2 because it's awesome, somewhat similar appearences and somewhat similar engine placements ;)
1. I suggest that the lander be named the Spider or something to that effect.
2. Isn't "kilogram" a unit of mass, rather than force/weight?
How about naming the lander Atron, come on everone knows the tiny Gallente frigate :D
I played this game for a while, and i've always read it as Apoapsis and Periapsis. But i keep hearing you say Apolapse and Periapse? Is there a difference? :P
it would be so awesome if you would build a station on the asteroid
Lol "those people that speak Fahrenheit XD"
Name the lander the Gnat!
I don't think B612 would have hit Kerbin. At that steep angle, it would have exploded in the atmosphere just like that little probe did. An air blast that would have flattened a large area of trees, but not left another crater.
I was just wondering, why does KSP give you temeratures in C? considering they're kerbals, Kelvin/K would be way more fitting.
I believe it's because the programers use Celsius, though I feel that you are right on this
non-descript guy
Kelvius?
Lol Idk about that... definitely funny though
B612?
Isn't that the rock where the Little Prince came from?
He said that in the last video if i remember correctly.
Mmm, I didn't see the last one. Hell of a reference, if you ask me.
Indeed. He named asteroid so in a previous episode.
We are six minutes away from apple
What
Call the probe "The Derdos Skipper"
THERE WAS A FACE IN THE CLOUDS. ITS AT THE BOTTEM RIGHT OF THE PLANET ( 8:30 )
i like to see some one , bring 3 asteroids together and build a station all the way around one of them.
I wonder if you guys had the problem i have. KSP glitch out a lot of time when i decouble the heat shield. I just can't recover the vessel or simply quit the mission.
How does he have so much fuel at 6:51 when he flew allot in the last episode ?
Nice :)
I wonder, why no aerobraking? too dangerous for something attached by the claw?
Hey :D
You can make a Ship out of the Asteroid :D
Man, I still have no idea how to capture an asteroid... I just can't select and target any of them in the Tracking Station... Can you do a Tutorial to demonstrate how to do it ?
Imagine trying to catch a real asteroid the amount of resources it would take the speed in the rotation of the asteroid would be complicated enough. I'm talking about a massive asteroid let's say 8 miles wide.
I played KSP yesterday, but hadn't seen one of Scott's videos in a while. What is all this fancy stuff? Did he install a mod for the asteroid? This is awesome!
Edit, found most of it:
www.reddit.com/r/KerbalSpaceProgram/comments/1upc6g/scott_manleys_interstellar_quest_modlist/
the asteroids is a game update go get it now :D
*generic space-related comment with regards to Fahrenheit scale*
Generic reply about how Celsius is better
Steve Jenkins Generic comment on Kelvin scale a lol followed by a comment on how kittens are cute no matter what they're doing.
what happened to that one guy in the first experimental aircraft a few episodes back? we forgot about him already? no story?
