- I have a Precision Matthews PM728 and I am very happy with it but that doesn't mean there is not a few things worth changing. In this video I go over 4.5 improvements that I have made:
Quill DRO Upgrade and bracket improvement
Improved quill down feed
Z-axis power feed
Bed power feed
Fixing poor design in hand wheel dials.
I say 4.5 upgrades but my list clearly has 5 because one of the improvements came directly from Blondihacks and to get more information on that one upgrade you need to watch her video • Small Milling Machine ...
Also Blondihacks has in my opinion one of the BEST basic mill and lathe skills series of videos and I owe much of my machining ability to the knowledge provide on her channel and you really should check it out!! / @blondihacks - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
I already had TouchDRO as the main DRO for my mini mill. After watching BlondiHacks video, I got the idea to take it one step further and replaced the built in quill DRO with a magnetic strip and reader. I added this as axis 4. Through TouchDRO you can add 2 axis together so Axis 4 and Head Z movement now adjust Z reading on the DRO, so it does not matter whether I move the quill or the head, it is all the one Z reading on my DRO.
That’s very cool, I have thought about touch DRO but had other things that were a higher priority but combined scales readings moves it up the list. Got any part numbers on your scale mod?
Nice presentation as always.
👍👍👍
Thanks again!
It's a decent mill and I have used mine a lot however the biggest short coming of this milling machine is the fact it doesn't have a nod adjustment on it. If they where to put one on then I would consider this a fantastic milling machine. Mine the nod has been off since day one and I'm about to make a backing bracket to attach to the top of the riser in order to control the nod and flex this milling machine has in it.
That kind of adjustment would make this a professional grade mill in a hobbyist size machine!
Thanks! Keep up the good work.
Thanks, will do!
Nice video, well made. Good info ! I subscriped, thanks.
Welcome to the party!!
Hey, I love your videos and diy ingenuity! I have some questions about how you did your Jag / Dana 44 build. I am doing the same thing with my jag diff but in a sandrail. I sent you an email with my questions. Thx!
I got the email but was out of town for a few days and haven't had much time to look at it.
@@dazecars Ok, thanks!
glad I could help
👍😎👍
Glad you liked it
I’m a big fan of you and really appreciate the effort you put into your videos.
I’m not a fan of blondiehacks since she tried to pick a TH-cam fight with Joe Pi.
After the 4-5th time you mentioned bh I silenced the video, laid it on the table and went to the bathroom. That way you get credit and I don’t have to hear “bh”
😅
thanks for the input, I didn't know about the TH-cam fight. I appreciate you letting the video play out. I only mentioned here in regards to the DRO upgrade/mounting bracket and then at the end because I refuse to take credit for someone else's work. I hope you were able to see the other mods in the middle of the video.
