- Have you ever heard of a man named George Jenkins? What about Publix? Today we are traveling to Winter Haven, Florida where we are taking a closer look at the original locations of Publix and Publix Superstore! Let's take a closer look!
Hello and welcome to the World of Micah! I travel around filming everything and anything I find interesting -from theme parks to abandoned urban exploring. If you enjoy learning more about Disney history, tips & secrets or a fan of Disney World nostalgia you have come to the right place. I also enjoy showing Universal Studios history and taking a look of what’s left of from classic attractions like JAWS and Back to the Future. More of an Urban Exploring fan? I travel around Central Florida and film everything from abandoned Toys “R” Us stores to abandoned attractions.
Let’s take a closer look!

worked for publix for 15 years. great company. probably the best grocery story company in the country. after seeing that the first Publix store looked like and the first stand alone store you’d think Publix would buy those buildings back and preserve them as a museum.
Micah - this is very well done. I am a retired Publix associate. Worked for this great company for over 37 years and loved every minute. You did an awesome job with this video!!!!
Wow thank you so much! 37 years is quite an accomplishment! Take care
I love Publix
Publix should use this property to make an active small grocery store, but sell frequently bought items in unique specialty vintage packaging. Imagine shopping at Publix there and feeling like you’re back in the 1930s.
Historic site
Thank you for this video. I live in this town and take great pride in it.
What a great video. Thank you so much!
A great video! Well done!
I work in a Publix Deli here in Atlanta and I say this with as little bias as possible, they are the best subs out there. They were my go to even before I worked there. A Buffalo chicken tender sub is fire.
very interesting video, I work at Publix and it amazes me how such a big corporation began in that small building.
I am a Publix employee and like learning the history. 1,271 locations currently.
When you get back their pull the floor matt at the entrance door. It will say Publix in tile!
I love Publix!
First job was Publix, bagging groceries, then stocking. All my high school friends worked there too. Those subs were the best part of working there. Had one for lunch just about every single shift. I got stuck stocking and ordering for the water aisle one summer. Hurricane season. I still managed to overstock us by a couple of palettes. My manager used to play pranks on the new baggers and make them do things like mop the walk-in freezer (mop would stick to the floors) or make the cashiers shake all the salad dressings while blocking the aisles so that they would "look good for customers." He supposedly made one guy stand on top of the roof waiting for a special "helicopter air-drop" of water for the water aisle during hurricane season..... I realize that I just made that sound like it was me that waited on the roof, but it wasn't me.
I’ve been around the US but I have never seen any super market as clean or as fresh as Publix
In ever modern Publix I’ve been in, there is a picture of George Jenkins at the customer service section of the store.
Worked for them many years ago before starting a family. Met my husband at Publix almost 30 years ago. My daughter worked for them. My son, future son in law, future daughter in law, brother in law, nephew and husband still work for them! Needless to say we bleed green. 💚💚 Thank you for doing this. Great company to work for and be a part of!!
Thanks for the history lesson Micah
My fav place to shop for groceries
I hear about all my fav Disney vloggers talk about Publix. Wish we had them in Indiana 😀
Jaynee Strycker basically if you live in FL you eat Publix haha
In New Jersey we have SHOPRITE and it's cheap. PUBLIX is like SHOPRITE.

Great video..Thanks. I worked for Publix in Gainesville in the early 1970's. It was super. Many nice people and customers. I met my future wife..Sandy at Publix, she also worked there. Love George Jenkins, Charlie Jenkins, Howard Jenkins.

Joe P glad you enjoyed the lesson!! Lol
Pub Subs are the best out there!!!!
I wish we had Publix in NY, love their subs. At least we have Stew Leonard's which is basically the Disneyland of markets
Avery the Cuban-American give it 10 years: Publix is already in VA, and is trekking straight up north. They’ll be in Maryland, PA soon..

Thank you!
Great fun. Loved this. Cheers.
Hey micah did you know that there is a picture of Walt and George Jenkins together
Troy Vasquez I had no clue!
I see it on my work computer every day
Great video.... It is always good to learn something new.... Nice ending scene.... Thanks... have a great day
Yves Benoit thank you very much. I’m glad you enjoyed it as I enjoyed making it. Super neat town
Great video. Others may have mentioned this but , always being High End and Cutting Edge, I think Publix was the first in Floriday to incorporate the Point of Sale technogy of Barcode Scanners in virtually all of their locations. People would go to Publix and say wow..that is amazing..how do they do that. Winn Dixie had some scan stores..maybe 40% in the beginning..the old Kash n Karry and none at all during the early days of scanning..neither did Albertson's or Family Mart..which was an offshoot of z A & P. Those other stores still had either the old manual NCR Cash Registers or the NCR 255 POS but without the scanner. Publix totally led by having nearly 100 % stores with NCRs and scanner..BD
Any history on flea World , I was in Orlando and thats my fondest memory it was a great big flea market , if you couldn't find it there then you wouldn't find it
Never got to go there. I’ll see what I can do
Chicken tenders
Maybe you could do a clip of paint drying?
Keep ya updated on it
@@worldofmicah Seriously. you did a great job! Thank you for sharing!
Haha thank you very much
People up here in Wisconsin are like “Piggly Wiggly is the best” as being born in raised in FL till I moved I have to disagree.
I would like to do a 1 time to your patreon page not a monthly? Let me know
Tim Holder thank you very much. I believe there is a one-time donation option
What I don't get is why they ruined a nice art deco building by basically sawing off the spire and sealing up those glass block windows. I swear, people don't realize what they have sometimes!
Absolutely agree!!!
I can't believe that a company as profitable as Publix is, won't do something creative with this important piece of their history 😖
Publix is terrible
