  • Upgrading the Big Brutes plastic friction shocks with budget oil filled units. We see how that improves things, and also a steering mod that works but costs nothing, or in some cases, very little. Plus, a bit of onboard footage from the Big Brute as we see the shocks in action in the real world.

Glad you enjoyed the quotes. I doubt anyone has got that far to notice them. I'll leave them in anyway.

Love to see the Big Brute get some love! I still have mine from back in the day in my mothers attic and have been doing a ton of research lately as I've finally decided to try and get it up and running again. I know I did the whole Thorp upgrade to the gear box complete with metal dog bones and ball bearings through out. Considering how expensive those items are on ebay today, I'm thankful young teenage me made the investment all those years ago lol. I can't recall if I ever did a shock upgrade but I remember always looking at them in my Tower Hobbies catalog, so it's possible I did. If not, then that's on the to do list. I saw a guy restore a Double Dare years ago and said he used 4 oil shocks off a Traxxas Rustler. He didn't state make and model for the shocks specifically but looking at his pics they look like the Traxxas 3760A Long Ultra Shocks with Springs but I can't be certain. A pair can be had for $18 U.S., so not that expensive to take a chance on. You said at 95mm the ones you used were a bit long, would you happen to know the original shock length? I think they're 90mm, but I haven't been able to find that info as of yet. Anyway, sorry for the long post haha. Thanks for the cool BB content, I've subbed and look forward to anything Brute related in the future...cheers! 👍🏻🍻

I love the Big Brute! I love these Kyosho trucks! What I hate is that the availability of parts is very limited, the opposite of Tamiya, which has spare parts for its cars in any hobby store! (How are the transmission gears?) At what maximum speed can we run these cars so as not to damage their differential and transmission? Greetings

Hi. I'm glad you like the truck, and the vid hopefully. The gears are fine, I ballraced the gearbox after cleaning the gears. Regreased and use a machined steel pinion instead of brass or ali ones. I currently run a 21t brushed motor with no issues. It might cope with more, who knows. After a year lay off, I need to sort my 3d printer. My driveshafts are still in one piece and my spotlights are also still attached.
