    Same thing going on with my DRZ. The carbs and petcocks suck on Suzuki. So glad you posted this about the Raptor. It's exactly what I need. Had a Raptor too great quad.

    This will absolutely work, but remember, once you change the "vacuum" petcock to a "manual" petcock, you are now depending solely on the needle valve in the carburetor to stop the flow of gas. Be sure to cut the petcock off when the engine is not running. I changed my Suzuki Vinson 500 over to a manual petcock and still had the same problem. I ended up having to change the needle valve as well, to stop the gas from filling up the cylinder. Now when I am riding, even if I stop for a few minutes, I cut the petcock off. (Side note) Regardless of the reason, if you ever have gas to enter your cylinder(s), change the oil asap before trying to run the engine. The gas that enters the cylinder(s) will run down into the crankcase and can create a catastrophic engine failure........

      You mean it’ll work like every other f ing quad ever built. That’s crazy.

    I got a good deal on an 03 Eiger but started to worry when it kept dying in the "run" position. So glad to see that it's a cheap and easy fix! Thank you.

    Many thanks for the video. 2 1/4 pints of petrol in the air box. Problem sorted and the quad runs sweet again.

      I replaced mine as he did and it ran just fine. However, keep in mind that it's now grvity flow and if you don't turn petcock to off the gas head pressure could keep it flowing through your carb into the airbox. I ordered an aftermarket carb for mine and it was too large of diameter to fit. I ended up finding a good used one that's working and fit like it should because it was OEM. Good Luck

    Good information! Your video is the only one that explained how the diaphragm failure not only fails but starts to suck gas which explains a lot. One question though, couldn’t you just plug the vacuum hose and set the valve to prime and be good to go. Still need to change oil etc.

    • @dmanshowto8193

      Hello
      It is good to have a way to shut off the fuel. If you haul it on a trailer the bouncing of the float in the carb can cause flooding and if the needle valve in the carb let’s gas by it causes flooding. I’ve just always shut it off when not riding

    Poor design or choice of fuel delivery by Suzuki. I replaced mine with a gravity flow petcock for a Yamaha Blaster for a fraction of what OEM replacement would be. Thanks for sharing. Now I have clicking from the relay under the seat when hitting the start button. Not sure if it's the starter brushes bad or the actual relay itself. I'm not quite sure how to test the relay yet? Anyone reading any help is appreciated. T/Y

    I have an 05 eiger, I have gas in my air box, I just replaced the petcock from vacuum to manual. I had an overheating issue header would glow red, I cleaned, and rejetted carb, from 122main 38pilot to now a 130 main and 40 pilot, fuel screw out 1 turn, I also put a new needle valve and bowl gasket in the carb. I also readjusted the valves. Now I’m having this issue with gas in my airbox, and quad is hard to start/not starting, what could be wrong?

    • @dmanshowto8193
      @dmanshowto8193  ปีที่แล้ว

      Just guessing, but I think the float is bad. Not lifting enough to close the needle or not adjusted low enough to stop the gas, or maybe your new needle and seat?
      Not much help, sorry

    Mr DMan, I have a 2005 vinson 500. It has the identical carb and petcock, I did the exact same repair as seen in your video, plus I put a rebuild kit in the carb. No holes in float and float needle valve seals air tight. Yet after all that, I am still getting gas freely flowing into air filter box and filling my engine. I can't explain it.

    • @dmanshowto8193
      @dmanshowto8193  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello
      When you say you did the repair to the petcock, did you put in a manual one? If so then the only thing I could think is the float and needle is still letting gas in.

      @@dmanshowto8193 Yes sir I got a petcock for a Yamaha but not one for a Raptor, the only difference was mine had a smaller tube size outlet. After the carburetor rebuild and changing the petcock it ran well but then all the sudden it acted like it was flooding out. Left it alone for a few days, only to come back and find my air filter box full of gas again, as well as the crank case. Took the carburetor off again to check the float assembly. No sign of gas in the float itself, the assembly moves freely, even while the carburetor is assembled, and I can NOT blow air through the gas inlet while the carburetor is inverted // the float assembly and needle seals appropriately by gravity alone. I agree with you! I just don't understand how gas can be getting by the float needle with it working on the bench so well. It's frustrating. I thank you Sir Your video was great information. I'm thinking of looking at an aftermarket carburetor.

    • @dmanshowto8193
      @dmanshowto8193  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If your float is adjusted to high or is sticking some how , needle not seating. That’s really the only things
      Good luck

    • @dmanshowto8193
      @dmanshowto8193  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi
      You will need to rebuild the carburetor. The needle in the float bowl is not stopping the gas as it should

  • @edellison2697
    @edellison2697 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why not just put a shut-off valve going to the carb?

  • @ghettochild323
    @ghettochild323 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good video. I am about to swap out the original “vacume” valve for a manual valve. Question. Do you have to turn the valve to “off” every time you turn the bike off? If so, why?

    • @dmanshowto8193
      @dmanshowto8193  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Christian D. You should now treat it like all the other bikes that are a manual valve. If your not riding it for awhile or transporting it make sure to turn it off. All carbs have a bowl and float with a needle that stops the gas but a bad needle or bad adjusted float can let gas by. It’s best to just get used to turning it off when done riding

  • @austinmaxwell7020
    @austinmaxwell7020 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    What if you just keep the caps on the original and leave it on prime?

    • @dmanshowto8193
      @dmanshowto8193  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s not a good idea to leave gas always going to the carb. If the needle or float in the gas bulb fails then your risking flooding the engine and possible damage. I would move the petcock off of prime until you get a new one

  • @That4.3Sierra
    @That4.3Sierra 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Would this also cause the float bowl to flood?

    • @dmanshowto8193
      @dmanshowto8193  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s possible if the petcock is letting gas into the bowl and the needle isn’t seating good it could flood. That’s why I like the manual ones so I can turn it off. Especially if I am hauling them because of the bouncing.

      Hello, i have the same problem! 07 Suzuki vinson. I replaced the valve with a OEM one , Still have the same problem.
      Recked and found out i have no vacuum from the carb! I will fix. I plan on installing a bypass vacuum valve. I will use a
      tire valve stem, a metal one with a nut and install a hole between the carb and eng in the intake hose. after i remove the shradder valve.
      I will reroute my vacuum hose over to my new vacuum port! i believe this will correct the problem.
