That of Sylvac is the best designed (opening with one hand in addition to being pretty), then comes that of TESA. Those of Mitutoyo and iGaging are mediocre. When you acquire a 4 "caliper (instead of 6"), it is to gain in compactness: in this regard, Mitutoyo uses a box for a 6 "caliper for its 4" model ... As I wrote on the Sylvac presentation video, BT or cable data transmission, it must be useful because this feature substantially increases the price of the instrument. Comme je l'écrivais sur la vidéo de présentation du Sylvac, la transmission BT ou par câble des données, il faut en avoir l'utilité car cette fonctionnalité augmente substanciellement le prix de l'instrument.
The 6" Mitutoyo you own is rumored to be a Chinese market version or a fake one. Whether it's true or not I don't know, but it might be something to investigate seeing the difference in performance.
Yes my 6" appears to be a fake bought on Amazon over $ 100 ... When I insert a battery the caliper should show dashes for the absolute calibration procedure and my copy does not .. . So I have a 4", a real one, so I will buy a 6" but being very careful with the place of sale (not on Amazon).

On the packaging, there is a "scratch code" which gives access to a code (unique) which can be verified on the manufacturer's site. Simple and efficient. Mitutoyo (which has its products manufactured in China) is unable to authenticate its products. Obviously, I saw the videos showing the cosmetic differences between real and fake products but it never convinced me ... because the caliper gave precise and repeatable values until I bought a standard from Mutitoyo and I noticed a systematic drift of two or three hundredths and the calibration problem ...
Such awesome video I like i gaging its has better grinding i belive and its seems reasonable But sylvac has so much better display but bad design lack of tumb roll and some function buttons

I have two things to report: - the battery compartment cover is not very well designed, in the closed position, it sinks a little but visibly when you press a little on it, - on the frame and the display, I noticed the presence of slight indelible traces (perhaps glue), fortunately not very visible. J'ai deux choses à signaler : - le couvercle du compartiment batterie n'est pas très bien conçu, en position fermé, il s'enfonce un peu mais visiblement quand on appuie un peu dessus, - sur le cadre et l'afficheur, j'ai noté la présence de légères traces ineffaçables (peut-être de la colle), heureusement peu visibles.
The size of 4" for a caliper is cool for small measurements with one hand (less than 50 mm). Beyond and with one hand, the palm of the hand will be in contact with the end instrument and depth gauge, which will be uncomfortable. La taille de 4" pour un pied à coulisse, c'est cool pour des petites mesures à une main (inf 50 mm). Au-delà et à une main, la paume de la main va se trouver en contact avec l'extrémité de l'instrument et la jauge de profondeur, ce qui sera inconfortable.
Regarding quality calipers, I also know Helios Presser, Mahr, Limit, Starrett, Microtech, Alpa, UltraPrazision ... My favorite is the Brown&Sharpe / Interapid branded (apparently made by TESA) caliper with the black body and titanium nitride coated jaws. Tesa also sold those with an analogue dial under their eagle series.

I see a lot of ebay listings saying Mitutoyo Made in Japan but the shipper is located in China. Suspect fake products.
